Well...

I somewhat found my bearings back quite easily.

But I've forgotten two things I quite ashamed to ask:

- How does track & scan radar mode does work?

- I've tried a bombing run with a LGB and failed miserably. So, how does "smart" armament work again in SF2?

Thanks chaps!

Hello Emp_Palpatine,

about the Track-While-Scan (TWS) Mode, here's what's in the manual (quoting it because I couldn't explain it better):

TWS mode displays additional information about the currently designated target while still showing basic azimuth/range info on other targets. Radar in TWS mode scans slightly smaller volume than in Search mode, and radar elevation is automatically centered on the currently highlighted target. The display shows top-down view displaying radar contacts' azimuth and range relative to the radar, and target symbol may have a vector to show its movement direction. Different targets can be designated using Cycle Radar Target keys, and Acquire Radar Target key switches to STT mode.

Additional info may be displayed depending on the current air-to-air weapon type selected.

Radar targets symbols while in TWS mode:

If Avionics Option is set to Hard, it takes the radar 3 hits before it can gather enough information needed to show target vector and friendly info on non-designated target.

About the LGB, simply select your target (E key by default) and release your weapon while being at the usual 5nm / 10000ft / 475 knots combo, aligned toward your target of course. Be advised that if you ain't in a strike mission (in which case, the lasing is provided by a 3rd party), you must bring your own laser designator.

Hope it helps drinks.gif

Thanks for your answers. Regarding the manual thing... Well, it's true I should have started there. RTFM! I've read it way back in 2004 when I bought SFP1, but so much changes...

Oh, another question/remarks:

- Am I dreaming or... Does the "ASK FOR HELP" command to red crown now works?! I've seen friendly fighters spawning out of the blue when using it! FRACKING AWESOME! :yahoo:

- The AI has been quite improved, hasn't it?

Now my wingmate do score kills and I've been downed quite a few time, even in gun dogfight (it was rare, back then). Is therefore the "normal" difficulty for AI pilot still the recommanded setting? Back then, it would help AI wingmen... Still accurate today?

Limping back from a mission, low on fuel and ammo, being chased by some very persistent MIGs, this has saved my bacon more than a few times.

Red Crown doesn't always have the assets available to help you though, so don't get to rely on it.

And yep - it's frikkin' awesome

I like the rearview command. It defaults to shift + F5; I just changed it to F4--it wasn't doing anything else.

Another question: dealing with fires.

Back in the old days, most of the times you were hit, you just bought the farm.

Well, things have changed apparently and there are much more variety of damages.

Hence my questions: I've been set ablaze several time by AA or SAMS. Well, whatever. I've seen the AI dealing with those fire, managing to put out them fires. I can't, and it ends most of the time in a big fireball or with me hanging with my chutes.

How does the AI manage this?

The AI err.. cheats? I've seen a Hunter get rid of a massive wing fuel tank fire.

Although you can fight engine fires. Default Ctrl+I switches off all your engines. Shortly after that the engine fire dies and you can try to switch them back on at low RPM. Sometimes the fire doesn't come back quite as fast, once on P-51D I was able to go back to full power without going ablaze again, but most likely the engine with start flaming and then the tanks follow, and that's where you hit the silk.

Wish TK introduced single engine switch to make A-10 more survivable.

I simply swap shift+F5 and F5 from default. Default F4 key is too important to be assigned otherwise for me.
