Hasse Wind 46 Posted July 11, 2012 Wow! It really looks like the Albatros is very easy to handle. Love the engine sound.
Olham 164 Posted July 11, 2012 Wow! It really looks like the Albatros is very easy to handle. Love the engine sound. It must be - even I can fly it quite well! Here is the video of "Vintage Aviator"'s first build with the original Mercedes engine. A beauty with the sleek design of a shark, isn't she?
+streakeagle 871 Posted July 11, 2012 I take my son to this museum about once every 2 or 3 months. I was hoping I would get to see the Albatros fly. I am sure he won't be flying that one very frequently, sorry I missed it.
Hauksbee 103 Posted July 12, 2012 Fantasy of Flight owner Kermit Weeks takes his newly-acquired Albatros D.Va for its first flight since arriving in Florida. One very pretty Alb. I'm assuming that the profound shaking (or what appears to be) is just camera vibration; because it looks like wing flutter and I kept expecting to see the lower wing go away. DukeIronHand 8 Posted July 12, 2012 Always nice to see a WW1 A/C model flying. Without breaking out the books should not that plane, based on the lightning bolt on the side, have a green Jasta 5 tail? Belonging to....err...von Hippel? Or is one of the Golden Triumvirate? Man old age blows!
Olham 164 Posted July 12, 2012 (edited) Hauksbee, I first thought the same. But it must be the camera attachment. Duke, this Albatros seems to be painted like that of Jasta 17 pilot Alfred Schreder. You will find it among the OFF skins. There were several skins with lightnings. The Jasta 5 skin was von Hippel's (black lighting on grey fuselage), and it had a green tail. So your memory is not bad at all. (But you're right - it sometimes sucks to get older...) . Edited July 12, 2012 by Olham
+elephant 36 Posted July 12, 2012 The plane is painted in OffzStv Adolf Schreder's, Jasta 17, livery. The original plane was a D.V not a D.Va though...
