Intruder7011 Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Hello, I am looking for a good WWII game that has both Pacific and European theaters. Last games I played on the WWII platform were WWII Fighters and Microsoft's Pacific game, blanking on the name. Just looking for something that is stable with great game play and high end graphics and detail. Thanks in advance. Quote
+JonathanRL Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 You wont get one with high end graphics and detail. The closest one to your request is IL-2: 1946. Currently on sale on GoG.com http://www.gog.com/gamecard/il_2_sturmovik_1946 Quote
+Stary Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 outside of Il2 which covers most of the WW2, you could try arcade Air Conflicts: Secret Wars if you don't mind the "arcade" approach http://store.steampo...esFilteredDLC_1 or Wings of Prey Quote
Intruder7011 Posted January 4, 2013 Author Posted January 4, 2013 Thanks for the help guys, I ended up getting Wings of Prey and IL-2, which came with all the expansion packs. IL-2 is what I have been looking for forever. Graphics are still pretty damn good but the second I jumped into my cockpit and started up the game it was like I was a kid again playing WWII Fighters and Microsoft's Pacific Fighters. Not sure if I'll be going back to Strike Fighters and the headaches with that anytime soon. I suppose I'll ask even though I am happy with the game as is, but any good mod's or anything you veterans recommend for a rookie like myself? Quote
JediMaster Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 If Il-2:1946 is the one you have, the latest official/semi-official patch is 4.11.1m. It adds new planes, maps, and fixes over the earlier patch levels. Quote
33LIMA Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 (edited) Dark Blue World (you also need UltraPack3) is a must-have enhancement for IL2 single player: http://www.sas1946.c...ebaa93b1d52f335 A lot of downloading (there is I think a single DBW installer for the latest version, tho check out the above multi-part link forst for a glimpse of what you get) but well worth while. Amongst the many improvements are better external engine sounds and better-blended-in 'decal' markings on planes. Plus a good selection of new flyables. comes with mod enabler so you can choose to fly stock or with a different mod. And check out Mission for Today for campaigns and many other goodies: http://www.mission4t...-Downloads_Menu Don't believe the current version of DBW is compatible with the above semi-official patch. Juhis Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Dynamic Campaign Generator DCG + Dark Blue World DCG campaigns are much more realistic than normal ones. In AAS (all aircraft simulations) forum you can find quite many dcg campaigns for Pacific theatre and few ones for British Channel -front, and by the way there is also a Korean war campaign. And making a DCG campaign isn´t hard, but it is hard if you aim into perfection. Quote
+Dave Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Can you add Dark Blue World to the Steam addtion of IL-2 1946? Quote
33LIMA Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Dunno Dave re DBW specifically but if it's anything like the HSFX mod, it seems you have to use the mod activator 'wrapper' for that and other mods, so likely DBW too: http://www.sas1946.c....html#msg176242 ...plus for Steam you need this direct drive patch thingie: http://www.sas1946.c...pic,1531.0.html Well worthwhile, IL2 never looked or played as good as this before: Quote
RogerSmith Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 IL-2: 1946 + Mods also covers some WW1 and Vietnam Quote
Intruder7011 Posted January 19, 2013 Author Posted January 19, 2013 (edited) Is the Dark Blue World mod, (along with UP3 since you have to have that for the DBW to work) compatible with the newest patched version? I can't seem to find anything about that. Thanks All i could find is this http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,31723.0.html So how the hell do I patch to a lower level, and also, is it even worth it? JediMaster Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 You can't patch downwards, you'd need to reinstall and only patch up as far as that earlier version. I can't answer if it's worth it or not. I used UP years ago, but gave it up and went to stock 4.11.1 awhile ago as I don't fly it THAT much anymore and that was enough for me. Quote
33LIMA Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Fairly sure DBW is not compatible with 4.11 - per these recent instructions, it's for 4.101... http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,21514.0.html ...and while I haven't tried it, I don't believe DBW will work with later modded .exe's, than the version it's specified as requiring. Intruder7011 Posted January 20, 2013 Author Posted January 20, 2013 Thanks guys, got it. I just installed the game again into another folder so I have two versions. I must admit, DBW is absolutely incredible, the water alone makes me just crash into it so I can float in my raft and watch the waves. Cheers to everyone who had anything to do with it. Quote
