Best movie of 2012?

Recommended Posts

I think part of it is to make the villain a bit unbalanced mentally, helping to explain why they would do such heinous acts...they're literally screwed up in the head.

Of course, Liam Neeson in the first film wasn't. He was instead perfectly level and rational, which did make him a very fierce villain because he believed in what he was doing because he believed it would help a greater number than it would hurt. Sort of like a doctor opting to amputate an infected limb...better to live without a limb than die with it.

My favorite 2012 movie is The Avengers. I liked TDKR, but less than the first two (I think Wayne/Batman should have more time on screen than he had) and also liked Skyfall, though I didn't exactly like their showing things from the old Bond movies (specially the Goldfinger Aston Martin). I just think this kind of things don't belong in this new Bond universe.

The AM DB5 was in Casino Royale too, if you remember. He won it gambling the one guy in the Bahamas.

Along with his wife. That guy had all the right in the world to be pissed at Bond, to be honest lol

No argument there, but he wasn't a "good" guy to start with, so...

Yes, but in Casino Royale we saw a DB5, that's all. It was not a Q style DB5 (you know, smoke screens, machine guns, oil and that kind of thing). If the DB5 from Skyfall was just a DB5, it would be perfect (Actually, it could be the Casino Royale car).

Yes, that was a bit of a jolt when it had all that stuff. Of course, this isn't the first time they've done that. In OHMSS, Lazenby goes thru a bunch of items in his desk from Connery's films. In The World is Not Enough, Desmond Llewelyn's final appearance as Q, there are tons of things like the Thunderball jetpack and the Octopussy alligator lying around in Q's shop.

I liked M's comment about the ejection seat, too.

1. LOOPER: One of the best time-travel action movies in a very long time. So good I can ignore the paradox it created (as most time-travel movies do).

2. THE AVENGERS: Joss Whedon finally received the mass audience his crazed loyal fan base assured he'd someday reach. And comic-book fans finally got an awesome Hulk! Plus everything else was nearly perfect.

3. THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY: What? Critics had a problem with it? That's okay because sane fans loved it. Especially that brilliant "Riddles in the Dark" scene. Martin Freeman and Andy Serkis were brilliant in that sequence. Freeman was a standout in the entire movie.

4. QUEEN OF VERSAILLES: A documentary that sums up the problem with the economy and the American dream from the perspective of the (not-for-long?) 1%.

5. MOONRISE KINGDOM: Two outcast kids fall in love and decide to run away together. And the rest is pure genius. An instant classic.

Honorable mentions: "The Perks of Being a Wallflower", "Killing Them Softly", "Cloud Atlas", "Lincoln", "Safety Not Guaranteed", "Skyfall", "The Hunger Games", "Argo", "Zero Dark Thirty" and much more.

I'm gonna put Moonrise Kingdom at #1. I think my wife pre-ordered the DVD the minute we got home from the theatre, and I love Wes Anderson, but this is his best yet. Also it reminded me that I really like Bruce Willis, but he has unfortunately ended up in more bad movies than good ones.

I was expecting to be disappointed by Peter Jackson's latest, but The Hobbit was awesome! I really enjoyed the experience (48fps, 3-D) , more like a ride than a movie, but too much fun. Don't think of it as the adaptation to the book. Think of it as the Prequel to The LOTR.

Saw Batman DKR last night, meh...

I can't wait to see The Avengers and Looper.
