I don't know, 9 MFDs are pricey, especially as IIRC they come in pairs, so you have to buy 10 and not use 1!

 

You'll also notice unlike every other pit out there...there's no throttle. :wink:

It's not that kind of throttle. You land a shuttle like a glider, but you don't fly it like a plane!

 

oh, got you.

 

The throttle was there for launch ops (I think). The shuttle was not at max thrust until after Max Q. Recall the "go for throttle up" call to Challenger just prior to breakup on launch.

Right, but unlike a plane most of the throttle work is pre-programmed because a human would have a hard time getting it precise, especially under the vibrations of launch...those engines make it SHAKE. So while that is there, it's not used necessarily when you would expect.

 

It might even be that controls the OMS but not the main engines, I've not bothered to check!
