DCS World, Overview Video, New Announcements

Recommended Posts

I am impressed to see the Sabre and not MiG15 on this stage of prospect modules list. My next wet dream i guess would be a Korea map and -15 ...

Great news and id like to see also a Korea, Vietnam, Germany (WWII) and a cold war WPACT scenery Czechoslovakia or Poland map too :)...oh and of course Nevada :D

Ok, I understand that, although TK even put failure as a probability in the SF series so I'm just surprised ED didn't put it in long ago. It does explain a lot of things I've seen in LOMAC and DCS, though.

As for ECM breaking locks, IIRC I've seen that in many sims over the years as well as losing lock due to notching and (in a few nice instances) terrain masking. I agree it shouldn't be a zero-sum "ECM on = no lock, ECM off = hit" equation, but there does need to be some wiggle room. In other words, if my ECM is on, I should need less chaff and maneuvering to defeat a missile.

Right now it seems like ECM has 2 functions--it reduces engagement range so that instead of launching at a missile's max you have to wait till burn through, which I think is like 20nm, and it enables HOJ locks from missiles with that ability. While I agree with the 2nd, the first makes realistic tactics harder to use. In reality no fighter pilot would be "blinking" his ECM on and off, yet it became a valid tactic in LOMAC/FC requiring that "power on delay" to be brought on in one patch, which really irritated me as someone who doesn't play against other humans, just AI. Also, it makes your choice of radar missile and side largely irrelevant. With ECM operating, every radar missile has a 20nm max range, so other than SARH vs active changing when you can break off, no radar missile has a range advantage over another.

Good points Jedi. One would think that the jammer on the Eagle would have a different burn thru range than the one on the Su, or the Mig.

How do you justify equipment failure stats? They aren't terribly available.

I wouldn't say you need less evasive action. I'd say it might give you a chance against a smart missile. But really, ECM tacics can be rather specific, so things get a bit strange - not something any game usually simulates.

20nm is pretty far, actually. :) In any case, the jammer 'blinks' itself in RL, you're right, it isn't the person doing it typically. ECM is always a touchy matter. For the moment, it is what it is. In the future perhaps we will see different mechanics.

It does as of FC2, but it's handled in 'broad classes' of bomber/modern/legacy, withthe bomber's jammers having the least burn-through.

Ooooh! An OH-58! Sweet! I have always had a thing for scouting. It should be good fun to hunt out enemy vehicles and lase for other platforms in multiplayer. The Hind looks like it will be a hoot and a hollar too. A Blackhawk, Apache, Chinook, Super Stallion and Osprey would be awesome as well so I can only hope for their inclusion at some point. Of course the transports will need a metric for accomplishing their mission so I hope that will come sooner rather than later. BTW, Anyone have any idea how far the Nevada map will streach? Is NAS Fallon and Edwards AFB included or will it just be the area around Nellis AFB and just north of Las Vegas?

I´m sure you have seen it in some movie, or read it in a story.
Someone who has no clue about airplanes has to get in one and fly off to somewhere.
They usually just get in and fly away, but it is really that simple?
Since I´m new to the flightsim genre I decide to dedicate my first flight to answering that question.

"The Heatblur Simulations F-4E Phantom II is the culmination of over 2 years of intense development, preceded by countless hours of research and built with our next-gen technology that brings many new features, leaning on all the know-how gained from our previous modules. DCS: F-4 represents some of the most immersive cold war fighter jet simulation available. Climb into the cockpit of this beast and announce yourself with thunder, as you experience the thrill of riding a primeval spirit.
DCS: F-4 includes, and models, both the DMAS and non-DMAS equipped F-4E Phantom II variants using the powerful J-79 engines. It utilizes our next-gen components based simulation framework - the aircraft is simulated as a connection of thousands of individual components. From an instrument needle to control surfaces, each component influences the state of the aircraft and even comes with its own wear and tear. Enjoy in depth fluids and electric simulations, a dynamic flight model and many new “firsts” in DCS, when flying and fighting in the F-4!
With the DCS F-4 we are introducing JESTER 2.0 - a completely rebuilt and redesigned JESTER AI to help you as your WSO, with improved and updated intelligence, a new interface and new immersive features, like pro-actively asking you questions depending on the situation - changing his behavior based on your answers. Teamwork is key in the Phantom. With JESTER 2.0 you will be able to not only enjoy this multiseat fighter in multiplayer with a friend, but also in singleplayer on your own. "

There are 4 options to choose from on the Heatblur store only for now - Order at your own risk.
