Strike Fighters NA introduced "off map" airbases. Mainly for bombers to enter the battle from airbases far outside the scope of the maps. They enter at a point on the edge of the map. I was hopeing somone had added a couple soviet "off map" bases to terrains like DBS or American northwest to have us based intercepters going after Soviet long rang bombers.

Interesting idea. We have the F-102/F-106. Might be a fun mini campaign.

 

I have added off-map AB's to most of the stock terrains.

Just checked :

You cannot choose them as airbase in the mission editor, nor as a player plane in the campaign (in this case, you are located to anotehr airbase)

If you make a mission (SF2NA, intercept with Tomcat), Off based aircraft appear and return around the coordinate you specify

 

That's what I understood for the moment

afaik, they are NOT player useable; mostly because they exist "beyond the rim" (ok, The Wall)

 

designed for AI controled bombers, and maybe fighters too

Fighters work too. I have F-111 and Tornado F3 based at my UK base. They make a guest appearance now and again.

stupid question but how does one figure out where to put the off map base? cordinate wise?

Actually, from what I understood, you do not input the coordinate of the base but the coordinate at which aircraft taking off from this base will be "spawned".

 

The last thing I could not do is to open the mission editor and affect this base to an AI flight.

 

Is this possible ?

Yep, that's exactly what I use to plot out front lines, MOVEMENT.INI routes, and now SF2NA campaign carrier group positions. Saves a lot of time. And you can save the "missions" for future reference.

this one is set up for just plane SF2.

It's easy to switch to other mods folders...

 

unzip, drop the SF2Sqmd folder into any/all mods folders

rename it's folder to match the mods folder

rename the exe to match both

open, and navigate to the terrain folder you want to see/use

 

NOTE: MUST have all three planning maps extracted and inplace INSIDe each terrain Planning maps MUST be in bmp format.

 

Important: does NOT work AT ALL on the IcelandNA terrain (must be a unicode thing and/or jpg planning maps --and, yes I've tested with bmp planning maps AND ANSI _targets.inis)
