Wrench Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 doing CarQuals on the new FJ-3M Fury, and for some reason, the damn hook just isn't catching. Landing speed 'seems' about right (based on other carrier based birds), even fiddled with the hook arm lenght, thinking it was too short.. it hits the deck (Forestall sized CV), about the 3 wire, and then just rolls off the deck here's the data ini statements: [FlightControl] StallSpeed=62.0 CruiseSpeed=212.08 ClimbSpeed=214.48 CornerSpeed=187.65 LandingSpeed=64.00 TakeOffSpeed=50.00 MaxG=6.5 MaxSpeedSL=311.0 MachLimit=0.98 PitchDamper=0.2 RollDamper=0.3 YawDamper=0.5 GunBoresightAngle=0 RocketBoresightAngle=-3.0 TakeOffRotationAngle=15.0 AutoTrimMaxMach=0.2 FlapSettingForLanding=2 FlapSettingForTakeOff=1 FlapSettingForCatapult=1 and the hook: [Tailhook]SystemType=ARRESTER_HOOK MaxDeflection=45 AnimationID=9 Retractable=TRUE DeployTime=2.50 ModelNodeName=TailHook HookArmLength=2.10 AttachmentPosition=-0.0000,-4.3254,0.0128 anybody got any ideas? +Cliff7600 Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 The very first thing I would try is to remove the landing speed entry //LandingSpeed=64.00 The second thing would be to decrease the flaps efficiency, just to check what's going wrong. [FlapXXX] SystemType=HIGHLIFT_DEVICE CLiftdc=XXXX <-- lower value here The "second first" thing would be to check the hook ModelNodeName but I'm sure you did that right. Quote
Wrench Posted May 5, 2013 Author Posted May 5, 2013 yes, but all the stock 3W Navy birds -US/FAA have the landing speed entry. So, I'm assuming (oh!! that word!!) it's required hmm...flaps... since it's Fubar F86F flight model.... Quote
+russouk2004 Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 (edited) The actual hook mesh doesnt touch ground, but pics ive seen show same...when down its a good few inches off ground...and named correctly...if it does need altering kev...pm me.. btw kev....shadow issue gone now? Wrench Posted May 6, 2013 Author Posted May 6, 2013 removed the landing speed statement, and the autopilot was able to get me on the boat. my wingman went over the side (but didn't register as crashed on the mission log) so that seems to wokr. after all, wingmates 'despawn' after touchdown... so???? I caught ONE small line Russ, but haven't been able to duplicate it. looked like near the nose gear (but not really sure!) Quote
DoctorQuest Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 (edited) I had problems with the HookArmLength on another plane. I had to change it from 1.63 to 2.07 so you would think 2.1 would be good. Maybe that in concert with the AttachmentPosition? The AttachmentPosition for the plane I had issues with was 0.0,-6.44,-0.31. Are you missing a minus sign on the last field of your AttachmentPosition? I don't claim to be an expert. I've just experienced your pain.....;) Edited May 6, 2013 by DoctorQuest Quote
Wrench Posted May 6, 2013 Author Posted May 6, 2013 I know it all too well, Doc! Went through this with the SF2 conversions for the Sea Vixen and Super Etendard!! (and can't remember what I did then!) Quote
+Zurawski Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Hey Wrench... Just dropped into max and exported the attachment point (I'm assuming this is where the hook theoretically attaches to the tail-section) is as follows: Point01=0.0000,-1.7717,-0.6274 Maybe/hopefully that'll help. Quote
+russouk2004 Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 kev for model i sent you.. hook length is 1.679 attachment point is 0.0,-1.684,-0.598 dunno how I missed them Quote
+CrazyhorseB34 Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Add a Meter to the hook length. That is what I did to the F4-Us. Quote
