beachav8r 360 Posted November 3, 2013 Damn. I hate it when I do something, then can't remember how I did it. Just fiddling around with my install tonight and wanted to check out the Harrier GR7 again. I downloaded the aircraft, but for some reason I can't get the exhaust to show up like it used to when I original captured this screenshot a couple years ago. THIS THREAD references some earlier troubles I had with it..but I can't figure out why adding those files haven't put the smokey smoke back in the exhaust... This is what I was hoping to end up with again: Some video of it (damn..makes me want to fly the Harrier again...!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8BZYXk2swc#t=148 So what file or entry am I missing for the exhaust? Wrench 10,021 Posted November 3, 2013 (edited) have you looked in the /Effects Downloads section? or did it come with the GR7 pak?? ( check the data ini, and see if someone added afterburner effects for the exhaust. I have a vague recollection of something like this being released...but can't remember when! beachav8r 360 Posted November 3, 2013 Hmm..no, I don't think it was anything related to the afterburner effect.. I swear it was some sort of particle effect file or something..but I'll be darned if I can figure it out. I was hoping it was the file attachment mentioned in THIS POST..but I've put it in my EFFECTS folder but it doesn't appear to be working. Perhaps something with the Thirdwire updates over the past couple of years has changed something that made in ineffective... BeachAV8R
beachav8r 360 Posted November 3, 2013 Ah..I seem to have found my smoke. I don't know why though.. Messed around with adding some weapons pack and changing the dates for the availability of the TIALD and went to fly and I have black smoke. Better to be lucky than good I guess..<G> BeachAV8R
Wrench 10,021 Posted November 3, 2013 like I said, check the GR7 data ini to see that the engine statements are calling for that exhaust effect
MigBuster 2,891 Posted November 3, 2013 As an example [Engine1] SystemType=JET_ENGINE ............ ExhaustEmitterName=J79-F4ExhaustEmitter <-------------------------- ExhaustPosition=-0.65,-3.63,-0.58 AfterburnerNodeName=afterburner_L AfterburnerEmitterName=F4AfterburnerEmitter ............ ThunderCloud 7 Posted November 3, 2013 (edited) Set the "ExhaustEmitterName=" to CleanExhaustEmitter. That's the stock one, I guess. Like this: ExhaustEmitterName=CleanExhaustEmitter Edited November 3, 2013 by ThunderCloud
+ianh755 196 Posted November 3, 2013 ThunderCloud - That effect is virtually smokeless (i.e Clean) whereas the Harrier effect is very dirty and the dirtiest Stock effect is the J79 by far!
beachav8r 360 Posted November 3, 2013 (edited) Yeah..the INI file is calling for: ExhaustEmitterName=AV-8LEngineEmitter Look good! Thanks for the pointers (better to teach to fish than give me the fish..<g>...hopefully the questions will taper off..!) +Spillone104 553 Posted November 3, 2013 (edited) Those above are not the right cure ;)I made those effects for SFP1, you only need to add these lines in the effect.ini file since SF2 series use shaders to display the effects. EffectShaderName=effectLightLevel.fx Edit: To make things shorter... here it is. AV-8EngineEffect.zip Edited November 3, 2013 by Spillone104

Thanks for the updated file..! BeachAV8R

beachav8r 360 Posted November 7, 2013 Ask anything you want this is CA, we aim to please! Haha.. I was just making a (poorly written) joke.. I was trying to channel my inner-Jedi sort of tongue in cheek. My smoke effects are fine.. <g> BeachAV8R
Stratos 3,230 Posted November 15, 2013 How can I add this smokie effect on older Hariers?
beachav8r 360 Posted November 15, 2013 First grab the file that Spillone posted in post #10 above, unzip that to your mod EFFECTS directory. Then you'll need to go into the aircraft's data.ini file and add change these lines in the left and right sections of the engines section: ExhaustEmitterName=AV-8LEngineEmitter ExhaustEmitterName=AV-8REngineEmitter That *should* do it..
