Rends New GermanyCE Terrain Part 2

Recommended Posts

Thank you Rends for your tremendous work and the many contributions of others involved for many years in the SF series.

I have what I hope is not a brain dead question.

When I click on Part 2, the file size is 602mb

When I click on download I see two downloads of 301mb each so I figured it's being divided into 2 exactly half downloads.

So I downloaded both of them.

When I unzip them, the contents look exactly identical.

Perhaps I'm doing something wrong or have brain in lock mode instead of target lock.

Thank you for your help.

Brentw

Might be an error on my end while uploading the file.

You only need to dl one file.

They are exactly the same.

Hi Rends,

I am able to reproduce the error.

The season of the map does not matter. But the type of airplane does.

When I fly one of the new Mirage F1 aircraft form Nordholz and make a left turn towards Bremerhaven the game freezes up.

I tried the mirage F-1C, F1-C_200  and the F-1CE whith and without weapons.

I could not repreduce this error with the TW DLC Mirage IIIC or the stock F-4C Phantom.

Also when the game loads using the new Germany map It's stuck for a much longer time at 80% then any other map.

Is this normal ?

I'll try a few other non TW aircraft   around Bremerhaven

Fixed now.

Sorry for confusion.

Yep, the Thirdwire memorial minute at 80% is normal.

Guess because of the ammount of targets/textures that needs to be loaded.

About a crash. Sorry i have no idea. There isn't something special in the area.

Could it be that you ran out of graphic memory?

If it works fine with stock aircrafts but you have trouble using the Mirage you might check what ammount of texture memory is used by the addon aircraft.

MirageF1 is very heavy, that's why it looks so awsome, could be lack of memory or something that causes the crash because all the textures are 4096x4096 plus Bump maps and damage textures...

Hi Rends,

It's probably not my graphics card

I use a AMD Radeon 7870 with 2GB of DDR5 ram.

But I wanted to know for sure , so I flew the Buccaneer-S2B to Bremerhaven,...  no freeze.

I'll do some more testing and let you know if i find something.

P.S. what a great terrain !

Update:

I did a second test on the moment the game freezes (Mirage F-1CE)

The poly count is only 12866, FPS is 59 and gameloop 1

This is a screenshot right before I make a left turn, and the game freezes.

are the mirage skins jpg or bmp?

either way, try resizing them down one level (to 2048x) and retest (maybe back up the 4096s first)

------------------------

the 80% freeze is VERY common on terrains with lots of Ground & Terrain objects, and hi-rez tiles. I've experienced it several of my terrains, even with standard sized tiles. So, it's most likely related to the objects being loaded.

Hi Wrench,

The game does not freeze in external view mode.

Cast shadow=false does not make a difference.

I'll try a resized skin tommorow.

Is the Mirage the only plane you have problems with or any others too?

Hi guys

I didn't want to wait, so i resized a skin.

The Original skin is in jpg format  in 4096x4096.

I resized it to 25% of it's Original size 1024x1024 but the game still freezes.

Next I replaced the TerrainEngine.dll, with an older patch level one. but the game stil froze.

So far this is the only spot on the map were it happens.

The mirage is the only plane with this bug.

Other 3rd party planes I tried:

T33 shooting star

Fiat G91Y

Buccaneer S2B

I just have flown two missions over the trouble area in a Mirage F-1C-200. The first time was just a simple CAP, in which my flight of 4 F-1C-200's shot down 2 MIG-23s, just after that set to autopilot for home base and as the plane while south of Bremerhaven entered a right turn from south to the east towards Wittmundhafen the game crashed.

The second time I flew a deliberate test mission; again in an F-1C-200, but this time I flew out of Husum, and did so without wingmen or adversaries. I crisscrossed the area but this time I had no issues at all. Pics from the second test flight.

I will have to do more testing.
