SF2 isn't working

Recommended Posts

Hi people, I've had this problem for a while but I haven't found any fix. Well, what happens is that when I try loading the game, the "Initializing system please wait..." screen shows up momentarily and then there's no trace of the game ever executing. I've tried reinstalling it but it seems it's the computer what's not working. When I first had the problem I tried moving my mods folder away, and then I reinstalled SF2 only. Other games, including SFG, work fine. Can anyone help me?

what antivirus are you using? Avast has some "issues"

Seems to me that this problem may have multiple causes, mostly antivirus related.

In my case it was the joystick profile software. I solved it by removing the software and doing the programing in-game.

Hello All,

I am recently new to the site.  I am not however, new to the game series that we all love and enjoy when it first started as Bold Games.  I came to the Strike Fighters series after I found my old WoE disc, loaded it up, and found that the same issues (even with the patch downloaded) kept happening, which was crashing to the desktop, which on the site I understand is referred to as 'CTD'. I did a web search, came across Thirdwire, downloaded Strike Fighters 2 Europe and thus, is where my issues began.  I have read through the forums that are relevant, suscribed and paid (hope that earns some points for me, you all do an excellent job and I am excited to progress further through all this once my issues are resolved!) and I hoping that I can find the answers I am looking for.

What I have found so far is that the most common issue is with a Anti-Virus program, called AVAST.  I do not use it, I have AVG, however that could be my problem.  First let me tell you all what I am experiencing.

I downloaded SF2E and immediately started playing two days ago.  It worked extremely well, all graphics on high, and no lapse, frame rate loss or otherwise.  I knew Windows 8.1 had some updates to download and install, so I quit the game, allowed the laptop to download the updates, and figured I would pick up where I left off on the game in the morning. When I started up in the morning, SF2E would consistently CTD, either during, or after a mission. Here are the things I have tried so far, along with what my system is running.

Laptop: Sony VAIO

Processor: Intel Core i3

Video card: Intel ® HD 4000

DirectX: 11

Again, this problem only happened after I downloaded the new updates for Windows 8.1. Troubleshooting I have performed so far is : Re-installing, disabling AVG, Changing compatibility, installing SF2 and then SF2E.  All of these solutions I found on the forums here, as I did not want to waste anyone's time unless I had a continuing problem.

Thank you in advance for reading this, I appreciate any help I can get.  I want to say its DirectX11 that is making it difficult as re-installing, disabling the anti virus, and changing compatibility have had no effect on preventing the games from CTD.

Thank you again.

So you have added no mods - just a plain stock install?

Do you have Nvidia control panel? have you created a profile for the game?

Try downloading new video drivers from Intel.

@Mig Buster: Correct, no mods, and I did create a profile, including adding a second one on my laptop to see if a different user would clear up the issue.  no success.

@Fubar512: Correct again, I did pursue and updated my drivers.

Then I tried this.  I scrolled through the forums again (Again, I know you all are busy, we all have lives outside of SF), and found that creating a new folder instead of re-installing to the old folder used previously (That way kept causing problems) as a way to troubleshoot the issue. So, I created separate folders for SF2 Original, and SF2E and now they work correctly again. No CTD, all graphics on high (I haven't tried unlimited), however I do believe updating the drivers played a significant hand in it, as it all runs much smoother than previously.

Thanks for replying guys, if there wasn't so much discussion on these issues I never would have all the troubleshoot issues or, where to find updates.
