+JediMaster Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 They did it 30 years ago (albeit they did it to knock a satellite down not put one up), so I don't see anything not feasible here. Pilots might be a little nervous with a rocket THAT big under the plane, though.
+FastCargo Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Plus I'm pretty sure none of that external stuff other than the actual rocket will be hanging off that jet. The trick, unlike the ASAT, is a vehicle with enough thrust to get to orbit, verses just space, like the ASAT. FC
ironroad Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 (edited) Couldn't see why it wouldn't be feasible, if they can get the actual rocket payload small and light enough and still make it functional. As long as the craft can carry the weight, is stable, and can get high enough anything can be used as a "mother". Edited February 7, 2015 by ironroad
+Typhoid Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 with a microsat that is feasible, but as noted a bit more of a challenge than the ASAT. The concept already works with an L-1011 launch vehicle.
