+allenjb42 Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 Sundowners recent excellent Alternative Falklands Terrains pack inspired me to dust off my SF2: South Atlantic install to try some post-1982 scenarios. We know that 1435 Flight is based at Mount Pleasant with 4 aircraft only, Phantoms, then Tornadoes and now Typhoons. What if the Argentines launched a bolt from the blue airstrike, looking to hit the airfield and other targets before Britain could deploy reinforcements from the UK? I'll be playing the missions in different years to see what happens using the different planes employed by 1435 Flight, and also from the Argentine side, upgrading their aircraft as appropriate. My basic scenario is a strike by 3 flights of 8 A-4s (or maybe 6 flights of 4 A-4s), with 2 flights of 2 A-4s to fly defence suppression, and two flights of 4 Mirages to fly top cover, either Escort or Fighter Sweep. My dilemma is how to deploy the RAF assets in the mission builder. I don't think that a flight of 4 is useful because they are all going to get tangled with the first flight they engage. So do I go for two flights of 2, or should I set each aircraft to operate independently and assign one flight to each inbound strike flight and hope they engage any other bandits with remaining missiles? And what would happen in a real life situation? Would the RAF jets be committed singly? Quote
+Wrench Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 i'm pretty sure all western doctrine would be flights of 2 (lead and wingman). anything else is suicidial!! Quote

The other 2 wouldn't be at such a high readiness so I'd assume it'd take longer to get them up. Edited April 21, 2016 by TempestII Quote
+Sundowner Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 These are exactly the scenario's I was thinking about, I think it would be flights of 2 just trying to survive long enough for more aircraft to arrive......but how long would that take ? Quote
Spinners Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 And on any given day would one of them be undergoing servicing or repair? Quote
