Snailman 517 Posted October 31, 2017 Yes, even movies are part of politics-making manipulation, can be very well of instruments of demonization, heroization and pointing fingers at the projected enemy...

Indeed. It is obviesly the same imagery. The own side is always heroic, selfless, smart, strong, brave. The other side acts stupid, treacherous, cowardly, is tyrannic and homicidal. Is always the same. At all times, from all sides.
Snailman 517 Posted November 1, 2017 This is not a movie but a documentary. You never invested two hours of your life into the best place...
JediMaster 451 Posted November 3, 2017 Crimson Tide is post-Cold War but almost the same. However, the "bad guys" are really just an offscreen impetus for the action, you know next to nothing about them, it's the drama on board that drives it.

Did the Israeli's infact lose one of their A-4 Skyhawks which was carrying a Nuke. Maybee Nesher can answer that question. ??? No. Unless they actually did, which then would be classified, so Nesher couldn't talk about it anyway. Thirteen Days was already mentioned. What a great movie - not just plot-wise, but also for their use of original footage and eagerness to recreate the photo-Crusaders (which were actual philippine F-8P airframes). My understanding is that the Israeli's were attacked from both the South and the North and were nearing defeat and had to consider using a tactical nuclear weapon or lose the fight for the survival of their nation. But eventually their ground forces managed to repulse both the Syrian attack in the Golan and the Egyptian thrust in the Sinai and the need for a tactical nuclear strike was averted. When you are faced with overwhelming odds and the possibility of being wiped off the map, how many of us would consider using the ultimate weapon against an aggressor and face The Sum of all Fears for real. ????
Toryu 156 Posted December 10, 2017 The situation was pretty tight at times, but due to lack of proper communication and a common strategy, the arabs quickly faltered under israeli firepower. Instead of attacking at once at both fronts, the attacks in the north and south were significantly time-shifted and thus Israel quickly got the upper hand. The scenario is plausible, but the situation wasn't dire enough to endanger one of the (supposedly) 13 warheads in a flight that would not use them. That's my 0.02€. There have been no known flights with armed weapons though - and even if they happened, they'd probably still be highly classified. Had an IDF A-4 with a nuke been shot down, the arabs (and soviets) would have used this for propaganda against Israel and the US.
Snailman 517 Posted January 1, 2018 Nuke carriers have been Kurnasses. At least one Kurnass has been armed with nuke with live fire order. Thankfully the nuclear release order was cancelled (20minutes?) later so no flight was made with armed nuke. "Officially" as we know of. Pushing the Red Button for the losing side as last resort is a common doctrine "If we die, we will die together" attitude. Shameful for all the humankind that weapons of mass destruction are the only mean to deter an overwhelmingly superior aggressor.

CowboyTodd41 134 Posted January 9, 2018 Being from Kansas City, The Day After is one of favorites, though it's really something you'd want to watch for "entertainment" per se. The UK counterpart "Threads" is excellent as well. Whomever suggested The Fourth Protocol earlier, that movie is actually really excellent! Any one else have a chance to catch "Atomic Blonde" this summer? It's fantastic!
