My understanding is that the Israeli's were attacked from both the South and the North and were nearing defeat and had to consider using a tactical nuclear weapon or lose the fight for the survival of their nation. But eventually their ground forces managed to repulse both the Syrian attack in the Golan and the Egyptian thrust in the Sinai and the need for a tactical nuclear strike was averted. When you are faced with overwhelming odds and the possibility of being wiped off the map, how many of us would consider using the ultimate weapon against an aggressor and face The Sum of all Fears for real. ???? 1 Quote
Toryu Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 The situation was pretty tight at times, but due to lack of proper communication and a common strategy, the arabs quickly faltered under israeli firepower. Instead of attacking at once at both fronts, the attacks in the north and south were significantly time-shifted and thus Israel quickly got the upper hand. The scenario is plausible, but the situation wasn't dire enough to endanger one of the (supposedly) 13 warheads in a flight that would not use them. That's my 0.02€. There have been no known flights with armed weapons though - and even if they happened, they'd probably still be highly classified. Had an IDF A-4 with a nuke been shot down, the arabs (and soviets) would have used this for propaganda against Israel and the US. Quote
Snailman Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 Nuke carriers have been Kurnasses. At least one Kurnass has been armed with nuke with live fire order. Thankfully the nuclear release order was cancelled (20minutes?) later so no flight was made with armed nuke. "Officially" as we know of. Pushing the Red Button for the losing side as last resort is a common doctrine "If we die, we will die together" attitude. Shameful for all the humankind that weapons of mass destruction are the only mean to deter an overwhelmingly superior aggressor. 1 Quote

CowboyTodd41 Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 Being from Kansas City, The Day After is one of favorites, though it's really something you'd want to watch for "entertainment" per se. The UK counterpart "Threads" is excellent as well. Whomever suggested The Fourth Protocol earlier, that movie is actually really excellent! Any one else have a chance to catch "Atomic Blonde" this summer? It's fantastic! Quote
