Hi!

I have recently gotten WOE working on windows 10, thanks to help in another thread on this forum, and now have installed the Operation Desert Storm mod and it is all looking and running nicely except fro teh Instant action option, where the  game will just crash if i select it from the menu - can anyone help me as to why this would be happening. I looked in teh options.ini and the instant action has DS selected as its map so i dont understand what the critical error is here

has anybody else encountered this?

thanks

Just tried mine and it works fine.  I also have this installed in Windows 10.

If I recall correctly mine is an untouched (by me), unmodded (by me), straight out of the zipped files install.

Do you have all the updated, fixed, etc... files available from the download section?  There are a few extra besides the original 4(?) main parts for this install.

Check that the aircraft type for Instant Action is the same in both InstantAction.INI and in Options.INI. A mismatch causes a certain CTD, every time you select Instant Action.

In InstantAction.INI in your Flight folder, you should have
[AircraftMission001]
AircraftType=F-15A  (or whatever aircraft you want to fly)

And in Options.INI, in your main folder, under the [InstantAction] heading, you must have exactly the same aircraft:

[InstantAction]
AircraftType=F-15A

they are the same, but what are the extra files i need

foir this i installed the oct 2008 patch and the 3 ODS setup exes - what else do i need to apply>?

I believe there is a patch to this install, ODS_ Patch_1.rar.  Don't know if that will fix your problem, though.

As Gatling20 said the InstantAction.ini and Options.ini need to have the same player plane and that plane needs to be in your Aircraft folder.

Also, check ALL the planes in the InstantAction.ini file to make sure you have ALL those planes in your Aircraft folder.

Sorry I can't remember if I changed my InstantAction.ini when I installed ODS.  I'm under the impression it came working.

do you have link for the patch, searching yields me nothing, i will check all the aircraft

i am wondering if teh issue is due to WOE being installed in the program files(x86) win 10 folder which has some very annoying file write/edit restrictions that i cant seem to get around.- for example if i need to change anything in an ini file i need to save the file to desktop first and then move it to the folder afterwards

I've attached the ODS_Patch_1.rar.  I don't remember where I got it or if it's even necessary but I'm pretty sure I installed it.  It's been years since I installed ODS.

Also, don't know if where you have your game installed is causing your problem in Instant Action, but seems that if the rest of the game is working, it shouldn't be the cause.  I have my games installed on a second drive.

ODS_Patch_1.rar

thanks - i will check the ini files again to see that all the aircraft are there that i have, and failing that will appliy the patch and if that doesnt work i will try a reinstall in my c: drive games folder

You cannot install 1stGen games to the C:/ProgramFilesx86 folder.

ALL 1stGen games, from windows 7 and up, MUST be installed at the ROOT of C/ drive. This will allow them to still be accessable for modding. This is a well know thing, and has been covered in the past.. If you install to the C/ProgramFilesx86, you've put it in a protected region of the HD, and have lost the ability to "mess with it".

As your instant action ini issue, have you tried simply renaming the ODS one (back it up), and testing if the STOCK one works??? (basic diagnostics - common to one, or common to all??). YOu'll be flying with stock WoE birds, over GermanyCE, obviously, but that should have been the first test.

Also, remember, ODS for 1stGens is old. All the people that built it have moved on, and is not (really) supported anymore.

Let us know if this works.

hi! it is working for me now - i checked all the aircraft files and there were all the same, but instead of doing the patch, i did a reinstall in a different folder not in any program files folders, because windows 10 is just too frustrating when it comes to trying to tweak ini files in those locations in any case.

it is all working fine now.

one thing though i would like to know, is are there any carrier ops in the desert storm campaign, or is it possible for me to add a carrier if i want to take off from such with an f14 or hornet etc?
