Sometimes i simply fly around and watch the landscape.

I think that's part of the fun of terraforming -- using either the free camera and zoom around, or free-fly a mission. Sometimes it's amazing what we can accomplish with this old, creaky terrain engine

During the test flights i had a lot dogfights with Air Force Phantoms. And i must admit, that i like the F-5E Tiger more and more, the underdog of the 1970th fighter planes. I love this little butcher bird.

The first coastal tile is nearly done.

The TOD-objects are placed. At the moment i'm thinking whether i should change the color of the shore a little bit. Will have a look at the sat pictures first.

that looks abit smaller than the first pic

i swear i do not remember the second runway.  but i was not ever above it,  and most of my time in the 90s was at NAS Glenview when they had their airshow (in conjunction with the Chicago Air and Water Show iirc). but all those memories were a literal lifetime and a few wars ago for me.

i mainly mention it to try and bring my home town into game

Ups, small problem. I forgot to save the last changes in the TOD file. So half of the newly planted trees disappeared. Shit happens.

Tomorrow i will try it again.

oof

sucks more when its self inflicted than something like a system crash or power outage right before you pause to save

Sitrep: Only one sea to city tiles still has to be done.

That's how it looks at the moment:

img00514.thumb.JPG.dea12d3e4d790492eb73d08cd83fb407.JPG

I was experimenting with TOD houses. It would be nice if i could put as many small houses as necessary on the map. But this would overload the game engine and only 500 per tile would appear in game. So i thought, that i could place only bigger houses, as shopping centers and skyscrapers. But skyscrapers should be visible from far distances and should not disappear from 10 km or so. So i think i will make the skyscrapers as normal target objects in a seperate target area. But for the inner city with the skyscrapers i still must create a new tile.

It is still a long way.

asked it before, will ask it again

why not multi house tod objects? i know the texturing would be a pain, but just keep the houses simple (youd be suprised how many American neighborhoods have cookie cutter houses)

you have a 500 object limit, but could you have this

instead of this

the hard part about using the lego style, is getting them to follow the "streets". especially when there's curved ones. For example, look at the massive building blocks on many maps (India/Pak, one of the Euro ones, other I can't remember). They're a nightmare to work with when trying to add 'targetable' items.

Below is not the worst, but couldn't find the one with the nicely colored buildings
