the trick is to find a pic of any old chrome (or other) piece of metal, then apply it as a layer over the spot you want shiny

play with opacity as needed

and i see this, after doing the main body panels and a good ways into the wings and engines....

let me take a look at them. might still go with my own since i've put a chunk of time in already (and also have blown it up to 4096 prior to tracing panels). but never turn down an offer, ya dont know what it might hold

meanwhile todays progress (had some of theat RL, plus just havent been feeling good last few days)

huge thanks to Jimbib . while i was pretty far into my own template when you released yours, the wireframe helped me add details into some spots none of the old skins had (without squinting at teh loviewer window!)

ya know its wierd. i like the top end metal. but hated the bottom metal

6 hours later i see why the bottom wasnt done up as much, one of the weirder mapping jobs ive seen on the older girls

Metal always eluded me when texturing, looks good though.

one of my tricks is a small library of metal "pics" from google.

from that base, i play around; overlay to change metal type, stretch or shrink and dirtying it up. cut parts of existing layers and change up opacities.

the end results have been cool lately. the journey can be...... interesting

now that i've made a SWAG on how these looked, i shall find 1000 close ups from the exact timeframe. as it is, 3rd Wing used really small unit decals in the 90s so its hard to see all around....
