Hello, my dear friends,

I have been having a difficult time with these shadows on the cockpit. I don't know how to get rid of them. :dntknw:

In 3ds max there is nothing showing but with the LOD viewer and game they show.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thank you ravenclaw_007 i had everything the same except the last thing was like this:

AllowDecals = True
CastShadow = True
CatchShadow = True
UseFlatNormal = False

and I have changed it to what you suggested and sadly nothing changed the same problem. :sad:

2024-09-26_22h22_35.thumb.png.27c4ca95ec4a21b876aa3f84f901ca90.png2024-09-26_22h23_12.thumb.png.fc1fa5dd15b5fec0b88bf9fbae7c62aa.png

and this is the material setting for the canopy if that has anything to do with it.

GKABS, I've seen similar effects happen when there are disparate smoothing groups.  Try smoothing all at L1 or Autosmooth, collapse the mesh stack and then re-apply the material texture.  Also, are you sure you don't have a double-sided mesh or any polys have been flipped - that could cause it too.

It is not so strange, the same thing already happened with the F-5 that comes with YAP (SOH) I work on a small mod and I encountered the same problem, too bad I do not own the editable to correct it.

It looks like something related to the texture application overlapping the transparency, surely the mapping settings above are related to the problem.

I know nothing about making models, but are those oval-shaped curved parts that you identify actually part of the canopy model, rather than being shadows?

They look like they might be internal (see-through) frames, over which the modder has created the canopy itself.

Thank you my dear swambast but that didn't work either I don't no what is happening did happen to me before.

No the canopy is uvw mapped correctly and I checked and there isn't any overlapping the transparency. I really don't know.

No they are not and they are not in the model but so how they show in the model only in the game and the LOD viewer.

I just found out that even making a simple box and adding a slice plane or just extracting one end of the edges I get the same shadows.

But are those settings just related to in max settings ? not the actual object itself....if you get what I mean ?

If you select any one of the vertical edges and then select loop, only 2 adjacent edges are selected, but if you select all the polys and slice them vertically, then select an edge then loop all the edges along that "line" are then selected. Surely this means something is amiss with the actual object

Sorry I'm not very clear here, but I'm sure it's something to do with the way the canopy has been created.

Having a bad day health wise.....

to make it even more interesting , i merged the object with the rear canopy of my F-4G and the problem is gone , after getting it from my F-4G back to the EF-2000 the problem is back

the object is not yet mapped but what puzzles me is that on the one aircraft the problem is gone and on the other one it is back

could it be the tga texture that is causing it ??? or the canopy frame where the object is linked to ???

i never had this issue at all and something tells me that this is not easily fixed and that the problem is definitely a problem of that aircraft model and not a 3ds setup problem

Are you sure you don't have inverted normals or overlapping faces either?  Check Normals and see if you can unify.  Don't forget to close all your mesh modifier stacks and ensure they are "Editable Mesh."  Also, to rule out  texture issue, perhaps try attached.  Happy to try to work with version of source file as well.

yap the object is ok  , and as i mention above ,  if i transfer the part on to my F-4G the problem is gone  if i get i back to the EF-2000 the problem is back

something with that aircraft model / texture is wrong

I just merged the model without the texture after resetting the material and saved it. Then, I started a new 3ds Max file and merged the saved file without any material settings, and it worked with no more shadows in-game. Thank you again for your help, my dear friends.

Now I need to reset all the materials and test to see if everything is okay after setting everything up.
