  1. Yer Out! Very entertaining baseball story, Raine. You really captured the rough and tumble nature of the game back at the turn of the century. Ty Cobb would be proud.
  2. MODS release

Optional Cloud Mod 4.4 is now available for download. For additional details, please see the "Optional Cloud Mod 4.0 Update" thread.
  3. Optional Cloud Mod 4.0 Update

Version 4.4 of the Optional Cloud Mod is now available for download, either at simhq or at Sandbagger's web site. This version contains several significant fixes and improvements, so everyone on 4.2 should update to the new version. Although most clouds will look roughly the same, or perhaps just a little less cloudy, I have revised the fog and haze clouds, so they should look better when combined with other clouds in the campaign. For additional hints about reducing possible cloud flashing during the campaign, including specific details about editing the OFFDynamicMissionWeather.xml file, please see the readme file for 4.4. If you have any comments or suggestions for further improvements, please do not hesitate to ask. Happy flying!
  4. Hello, gents. Although I prefer to keep discussion of the OCM to my thread at simhq for now, I have several pics of work in progress I would like to post, and combatace.com is much friendlier with images than the other site, so I thought I would post them here. Keep in mind that these are all works in progress and may or may not show up in the mod. Of course, all questions and comments are welcome. Overall, I am making progress on the mod and hope to have something by the middle of next month or so. ALL PICS ARE WORKS IN PROGRESS Old light haze New light haze Old thick haze New thick haze New Fog Let me know what you like and don't like about the pics. The main obstacle to getting any of these new clouds into the sim is the flashing issue. Although I have been able to reduce it some, no matter how I try, I can't seem to completely eliminate it, especially for haze and fog clouds. That's why you see so few of these clouds in vanilla BHaH2. However, I haven't given up hope yet! Cheers!
  5. Look forward to it. I always enjoy you and epowers stories. In fact, all of the stories are usually quite good. Turns out that WOFF can be quite the inspiration! Keep up the good work!
  6. Optional Cloud Mod 4.0 Update

It's coming! Version 4.4 of the Optional Cloud mod is almost ready for download! The new version should cure most of the strobing problems introduced back in version 4.0 of the mod (note: this problem did not affect all users). It also corrects a few problems with clouds not displaying correctly, and removes a few clouds from the campaign that still had excessive flashing problems. Most of my haze cloud files have been revised so the haze effect is more subtle and less noticeable, particularly when mixed with other clouds. The Weather folders, which determine which clouds are displayed according to the overall weather conditions (Good, Changeable, Heavy, etc.) have also been revised to produce more consistent results. I also took care not to rush this update out the door. In the past, I probably rushed a few updates after finishing my main tweaks without adequate campaign testing. This time, I have spent roughly the last month testing various cloud types in many different actual campaign missions. As a result, several cloud types that looked okay in QC flights but not so much in the campaign, particularly when combined with other clouds, have been improved. Note: some cloud flashing when entering or leaving a bank of clouds still remains, but this is a limitation of the game engine. While the mod is not perfect, I think it is the best work I have done to date on the clouds in WOFF. I hope you will agree. Thanks. BB
  7. Oh, that is terrible news, Raine. Another pilot gone west. If he were on better terms with his CO, I would think he would be up for the VC, although colliding with a flight-mate might not be something the War Ministry would wish to call attention to, regardless of fault and the heroics of the pilot. I drink to his memory.
  8. Nice story, Raine. A real nail-biter. Keep up the good work!
  9. Date Advance Question

Great! Please let me know if you have any questions or problems.
  10. Date Advance Question

True, Pol, but I think my mod does a pretty good job of incorporating new information (where available) about historical weather conditions, as well as doing a better job of reducing unrealistically long stretches of overcast and rainy weather that still exists in the base game. Although I would have to check to be sure, I believe there are several uninterrupted stretches of rainy and overcast weather in the base game that can last for as long as two or three weeks straight. This can be very monotonous. My update shortens some of these long stretches by a day or two or inserts a day or two of relatively better weather to break this up a bit--unless there is historical data that contradicts this, in which case I have left it alone. Therefore, almost all of my changes were made on days for which historical weather information is still unavailable--at least for me, anyway! Of course, I will be more than happy to change my mod if and when more accurate historical information becomes available. Goose, you can find a link to the mod on Shandbagger's hosting site here: Wings Over Flanders Fields - Ultimate Edition (User Mods) (thatoneplease.co) Please note there are two versions. The version you are looking for is version 1.5. The other version is for users of my Optional Cloud mod. However, you can use either one.
  11. Date Advance Question

Goose, You may be interested in an update I made to the historical weather that reduces the chances of flying in heavy rain or snow, since pilots were not likely to fly in such conditions during the Great War. The mod also breaks up some of the extremely long stretches of bad weather, so you are more likely to have occasional short breaks of good weather, even during the terrible weather conditions of 1916 and 1917.
  12. Date Advance Question

    I meant to say that!
  13. Date Advance Question

Can you access the Campaign menu from the main menu with this pilot? If you can, try advancing the campaign date in that menu and see if it advances the day for your trainee. If not, it sounds like the weather changes introduced in the Recon wars patch may have created a problem for training missions. You may have to skip training until this is fixed.
  14. 4k screen and text size

Hi, Les. You could also try increasing your display text size setting. I've done this on my desktop PC and it doesn't seem to have any negative effects on WOFF on my machine.
  15. Out of the loop...

HI, Trooper117. I am also experiencing eye issues with a double vitreous detachment and the beginnings of a cataract in my right eye, so I know what you are talking about. Getting computer glasses helped out a lot, but it is still hard to see everything clearly on the monitor. Although I don't get headaches, I do suffer from occasional motion sickness. Best wishes on your recovery and your return to the virtual skies. S!
  16. WOFF BH&H II Fatal Error

Glad to hear you have sorted it out. Happy flying!
  17. WOFF BH&H II Fatal Error

Good luck. There are a lot of options to go through. Just out of curiosity, what weather are you using, historical or AI generated? The last patch fixed something wrong with the AI weather generation system, so if you are using that, perhaps the last patch is the culprit? You might save yourself some time by posting in the Technical Issues thread at the simhq.com forum. WOFF seems to answer questions a little faster there.
  18. WOFF BH&H II Fatal Error

There is also an option to reset settings somewhere in the Workshop menu. You could also try that. I have never seen the particular error you seem to be having, but it sounds like something is failing to initialize. Make sure that you aren't running any mods. Also try sending Polovski a private message to let him know you are having problems. Things have been very quiet on the WOFF forums lately, so he may not be checking the threads as frequently as before. You can tell him I sent you!
  19. WOFF BH&H II Fatal Error

Welcome, Goose. Did you try sending your WOFF logs to OverFlandersFields support? If not, hopefully Polovski will soon come around to help you out.
  20. pray remind me

Thanks, Pol. Yeah, I forgot to factor in my poor tactics when approaching two-seaters. Almost every time I have been killed by a two-seater, it was because I was approaching them directly from behind. Much better to use diving, slashing attacks, but that requires very good gunnery skills, which I am also not very good at. In summary: when fighting scouts, always try to get on their six. When fighting two-seaters, NEVER get on their six (unless the observer is kaput).
  21. pray remind me

    M. Gaw, 1) I believe the colored lines have something to do with either the Regional Air Activity or the Forced Encounters settings in Workshop. Setting Regional Air Activity to high increases the diameter of the circles. Turning on Forced Encounters may do the same thing. 2) I believe that reducing fuel load does have an effect on performance, but the difference is relatively small. 3) Yeah, the AI is able to avoid wing-breaking due to overspeed in a dive, which also gives it a bit of a "zoom" ability, too, in certain circumstances. An across the board increase in parasitic drag forces might solve the problem to an extent, but also might cause other FM problems for both AI and player. 4) I have my rear-gunner settings set to easy because of this very issue. Hope that helps.
  22. Out of WOFF

Hello and bienvenue, Socrate. You may also need to adjust your regional settings for users of non-English computer systems. Please see section 5 of the WOFF BHaH2 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document. Bonne chance!
  23. I could be mistaken (I often am), but I think the Consolidated Airfields mod hasn't been updated to 1.22 yet (give them time). You might contact the mod creators, Robert Wiggins and Panama Red, directly for more information.
  24. What Pol said. Also, once you have copied the OFF_Camp_Mission.xml file, you can then edit it any way you please to modify waypoints, add or subtract aircraft, change time of day, etc. For further guidance, look in the readme file for JJJ's Mission Editor. There is a section on creating and modifying scenarios.
