  1. I meant that the components of the new engine aren't necessarily the big FPS killer so much as the amount of polygons themselves... FC
  2. Outstanding...so it sounds like it's not so much anything new per se in the terrain engine as the pure amount of polygons being shown on screen. I'd imagine flatter terrains would do better, yet still allow the newer texture details available. FC
  3. I guess the issue is that TK's terrain doesn't do 'scaling'...ie go to a lower mesh resolution when farther away... So I wonder if there is an 'in between' setting to maybe get better 3rd party terrain but not quite the frame rate hit. FC
  4. That might explain it... FC
  5. Awesome sauce! Thanks! So far, from what everyone is saying, the obvious bugs are the 'Fringe' ships and the Map view. Everything else seems relatively minor in a standalone install. I'd agree with what Dave said in the other thread...this is more than I was expecting. Targetable cruise missiles, implementation of the F-14's more complex radar/missile engagement mode, better terrain, WAY better water. more populated carriers, ships with multi weapons... FC
  6. Say, are those the stock clouds? FC
  7. I'll be really curious as to how the deck is populated...if the Sea King is a separate model, it raises all sorts of possibilities to fully flesh out the deck. Hopefully, this also means I can kill the carrier addon mod I had been tinkering with. FC
  8. Can you post your settings once you get what you consider a good frame rate? My laptop specs are similar to yours. "In Soviet Russia, missile finds y...BLAM!" FC
  9. The super-duper Fringe Nimitz...heh. Also, that looks like 3 ships total in that screenshot. FC
  10. Hey, that looks real nice! I really can't wait until we can get our hands on the code changes... FC
  11. Seems like every other time I was in Memphis I would pass a different burned out hulk on the side of the road...looked like the road warrior out there. Funny, one time when I was a teenager, some friends and I were out and about in my car. My friend in the back says that his seat feels kind of warm...next thing is that smoke appears, smelling like an electrical short. We rapidly pull to the side of the road and bail out in short order. The car doesn't go up in flames, but after I cautiously go back to investigate, I lift the rear seat and find a rust hole in the floorboard that was right over the muffler. The heat had melted the seat's cushioning, and the speaker wires that were laying right over it had the insulation melted off...causing the short. Learned how to patch sheetmetal from that... FC
  12. Anyone have any pics of Iceland yet? FC
  13. The contest was for the exact day as per the very first post. According to my reckoning...no one guessed March 9th, but Dave is the final arbiter. FC
  14. I'll let y'all go first...:). FC
  15. True, but it used to not work right for aircraft alphanumerics here on this board. FC
  16. Definitely keeping my eye on this...have played all the WC series since the very first one... FC
  17. I thought there was a 5 pylon A-4 out there already in the TW world... FC
  18. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Kony http://tumblr.thedailywh.at/post/18909727859/on-kony-2012-i-honestly-wanted-to-stay-as-far I show the US as having been involved since 2008...well before this so called campaign, initiated by an organization with very questionable financials. This is another example of people to make themselves feel real good verses do real good. Use critical thinking, and don't end up like these guys: http://www.cracked.com/article_16579_the-7-most-retarded-ways-celebrities-have-tried-to-go-green.html FC
  19. There are no mods for what you are asking for. Typically, during bomb release, in real life, you would 'feel' the thunk through the aircraft frame rather than hear anything. The sim does model some performance changes when weapons are dropped...asymetric drops will show as a 'heavy' wing. Also, some cockpits will change displays as a weapon is released. FC
  20. Don't get me started... Check this out: http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/80beats/2010/09/30/texting-while-driving-bans-increase-crashes-study-says-rumpus-erupts/ It was found in studies that laws banning texting and driving caused no decrease in accident rates, and in some states, actually increased accidents due to drivers trying to 'hide' their cell phones while texting. A result of the law of unintended consequences...trying to regulate a symptom vs dealing with the root of the problem...distraction and misprioritization of tasks. And before anyone gets their panties in a bunch, I'm not advocating texting and driving. What I am advocating is that legislation isn't the answer. I've got tons of examples of other laws passed having the opposite effect... FC
  21. And I'm waiting for Bioshock:Infinite. October??? Are you kidding? FC
  22. I bent wrenches helping my dad out on his cars, then my cars. Plus jobs around the house, plumbing, electrical, structural, painting, etc. Even operated machinery (backhoes, small bulldozers, etc). House or car work doesn't bother me. I could save money doing some of the stuff myself. But my time is far more valuable. I don't see enough of my family as it is, and scraping my knuckles stuck in the garage to fix something no longer appeals to me as it did back in the day. FC
  23. If you have the time. FC
