View File Italian Terrain (incl. 1915-1917 campaign) Italian Terrain WW1 V2.0 ******************************* Update (2.0): - Removed ships that show up on land - Added fortresses (Austrian & Italian) - Changed ocean tiles - Minor corrections INTRODUCTION The Italian Front during WW1 refers to a series of battles fought between 1915 and 1918 in northern Italy between the armies of Austria-Hungary and Germany against Italy. Italy hoped that by joining the countries of the Triple Entente against the Central Powers it would gain Cisalpine Tyrol (today's provinces of Trentino and South Tyrol), the Austrian Littoral, northern Dalmatia and some areas of western Carniola. Italy had hoped to begin the war with a surprise offensive intended to move quickly and capture several Austrian cities. Well, the war soon bogged down into trench warfare similar to the Western Front fought in France. INCLUDED - Italian terrain/front WW1 - Ground objects - Italian campaign 1915-1917 (incl. needed skins) FAQs Q: Is the scale of the map correct A: No Q: Why not the Piave river front, in order to create late 1917/1918 scenarios? A: Because Q: Are all the named towns and cities correct (placement and naming) A: Yes as good as it gets. Q: Does it include more than one season? A: No, currently not. Might be released with version 2 Q: Is the frontline correct? A: Yes as good as it gets, representing late 1917 with certain omissions in order to get targets for the campaigns (like Monfalcone being Austro-Hungarian) Q: The river Isonzo seems to cut through the mountains, is that correct? A: To a certain degree, but I had to modify massively the heightmap in order to make things look right (e.g. river not flowing up/down the mountains) Q: The northern part of the map, e.g. toward Munich, seems without further towns? A: Correct. All forests and lakes are there but apart from the major cities (Salzburg & Munich) I've not yes included smaller towns. INSTALLATION 1. looking good! you might want to play around with the heightmap (feasable with the TDF tool), to slightly rise the forts...you know just 2-3 meters, this looks esp good with the sunset light

just noticed you're still using the old version of the 'forts' tiles. I've created new ones (different from each other) for Fort Vaux and Douaumont Have a look at my post about the latest version :-)

Further enhanced Taken from original photos and played around with PS You now have distinct differences between fort Vaux and fort Douaumont 1. Add these lines (obviously change the numbering) to your WWIVERDUN_DATA.INI file (if you've already the one with FRFort.bmp you just have to add the one with the FRFort2.bmp). [TextureXXX] Filename=FRFort.bmp HasWater=0 Color=0.487298,0.464698,0.352547 SolidObjectTexture=Venkov.TGA AlphaObjectTexture=Stromy.TGA [TextureXXX] Filename=FRFort2.bmp HasWater=0 Color=0.487298,0.464698,0.352547 SolidObjectTexture=Venkov.TGA AlphaObjectTexture=Stromy.TGA 2. Drop the attached TFD file into your wwiVerdun terrain folder (replacing my older version) 3. Copy the attached bmp's into all the seasonal folder as explained in the first post ..have fun & let me know Douaumont_Vaux_V2.zip

Lohner....pls :-)

semi-final touches...... ...lake garda, with motorboats/patrolboats MAS motorboats on the Garda lage

...just in regards to 'expectation management' ..... there are still flaws I'm not able (or willing...time you know) fix - Fields going up/down the slopes (since valley are sometimes too narrow for one tile...or valley does not fit in regards to tiles) - ACs sometimes not able to cross the mountains, e.g. gain altitude - Objects & trees shimmering through clouds (but that's more of a game-engine issue, since I've seen this in WoV, etc.) - Aerodromes not historical correct - Streets going up the hills/mountains in a straight line (they should zig-zag up/down in reality) - In summary, we're talking about a Thirdwire sim and not about MS-FlightSim....
-
- New tiles - Carso re-done - New frontline (slightly more historical correct) on the southern part , e.g. Carso area and Gorizia closer to the Isonzo - Moved Gorizia - Moved various targets into historical correct positions - Movements.ini done....lots of stuff in there To do: - Decided to use real-life names for small towns (used phantasy names, have to correct targets.ini) - Due to new frontline, etc. new planning-map needs to be done - Various clean-ups within ini files (remove all unused comments) - Various clean-up regarding files, removing dublicates, etc. - Height map still needs to be fixed for a couple of aerodromes - ...and I guess other 10'000 things which are still not 100% correct
-
Mhhhm not sure what a 'missioncontrol.ini' does anyway, but I guess this will affect the whole game?

Yes I did many tests in this regard and the AI has definitely a problem flying over mountains. OTOH I did NOT experience more crashes than on the Vogesen terrain (pls keep in mind: I've never seen fighters crash on mountain sides, there were always bombers/recon planes). So overall IMHO it's NOT an immersion-killer. Actually the AI does a pretty good job taking off and landing on the airfields in the valleys. Just make sure you've the FMs that can be found here (that helps a lot), otherwise I've seen them crash more often.
