Just adding the DL link in a more convenient spot; I keep forgetting what page its on... Thanks EmID, Tex, and everybody else offering advice. It is a lot of fun, and a great learning experience, just following this thread...

FYI: This is not just a pretty face on the Camel, it was used by Lt. G C Mackay while with 213 squadron to shot down a Fokker D.VII.

Sorry, don't mean to step on toes if there are earlier posts... just didn't see them.

and two of my favourites, tho the last results in, yet again, another demise for my hero Bandy of the RFC... Hope you enjoyed them as much as I did flying them

and yet some more (you can stop at any point...)

And some more...

Hello all, I liked the idea of posting some screen shots, thanks for getting it started Tex, so I put together a smallish group to thank TK and all the 3rd party folks by showing them the sheer white knuckled thrills they have provided. Christmas came earlier in November for this lad... but Santa showed up right on time with the Camel and Tripehound. Some I posted before, but are now in buried threads. or elsewhere. They're just favourites of mine. No particular order; chronological in fact. So the stock planes and Gotha were out... and then alot of skins, etc. Sorry if I didn't get your particular skin in or... but I'm sure the terrain people see their textures, and the effects people see their effects, and so on. ALL PLANES ARE FLOWN STOCK, only the images slightly altered for contrast and sharpness in Photoshop, NO colour correction. That's all, the images are all my doing. Your names may not be know to me, but your creations are now in my memories, and filling up my harddrive space: keep the damn poly's down will you!!!

Winter Terrain Pack - Firecage/Tridyed Production
Bandy replied to Firecage's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Firecage, Nicely executed! If you don't mind the off-hand compliment, this looks a lot better than the images in the other thread a few weeks ago. I've downloaded and look forward to trying the misisons too... Best regards -
EmID, Your Nieuport is exquisitely done. I downloaded the beta yesterday and flew it most of the night (yes, Friday night, I have a toddler at home... ) I was going to post to mention the rudder response was a bit too much (yikes!), and while the Nieuport line were awesome AC, it really made it into a super-uber-plane, but you read my mind. I can hardly wait to download and try this version tonight!!! Thanks for the great work, my French pilot, Major Doutie also thanks you he's tired of flying Salmsons and SPADs only... Best regards...

Problem With Bomb Target Missions?
Bandy replied to Tailspin's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Have you tried <Tab> <3> yet? I had an issue where none of my side's AI would even fire a shot. TK mentioned <Tab><1> to get them to attack, then I saw the rest of the options hidden there. <Tab 3> keeps them in formation on you, perhaps it'll work for bombing? -
I just uninstalled, fresh patch download, and used the archived zip of my first FE downld (solid install), and it ran smoothly on stock AC. Yes, there were some odd enemy activities, somewhat better AI, but no loopy looping... I then added A-Team Camel, first 3rd party anything, and it crashed the game on the load screen consistently. I then made the recommend FLIGHT INI mod mentioned above, and it got better, but crashed the game everytime I tried to fly more than 4 Camels [and I have a very powerful computer] with X1900XT vid card. ATI issue??? 3rd party???
-
Mine's not locking up, but the game crashes after ESC to complete mission when flying the SPAD 7 3rd party a/c, and will not recognize or credit any activity (kills, hits, nothing...) with any other stock a/c as well... I too have smoke effects 2 loaded, but a few others as well: Heck's army...

I'm echoing IB here. After being away from the thread for a while I just read the last 3-4 pages, and it was like watching a car wreck about to--and then, sadly--happen... In email or forums, "economy of speech" in words/text used will get you into trouble, people read between the lines on both sides, and misunderstandings happen. I've been burned, now twice shy. It isn't constructive to point out another persons weak points regardless of what was meant earlier in the thread. If this was Bort's first plane, or his 100th, it was his creation and he just wanted some space for him and others to enjoy it -- flaws and all--- before people tore into it. Me included [albeit on a minor point], and I apologized, and still do. Creative genius comes at a cost, I hope he doesn't decide to go away. It will be hard for him to return, and a test of character for him -- all of us -- if he does. IMHO only... Hey, who the H___ am I anyways...

I have to download the beta, but will ASAP! REALLY looking forward to it BTW... fun to watch it in progress, and hats off to you, take a bow! RE: the undercarriage, I was wrong in prev post. As I mentioned there, the pic of the later Eindecker was front 1/4, so the perspective hide the shape of the pipes. You've got it correct, my mistake entirely...

New Winter Terrain from Tridyed Production
Bandy replied to Firecage's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
You're doing good work, nice to see somebody thinking out of the box, and season about terrains. In the spirit of constructive criticism, and only in that spirit, I pass this along: 1) As an "expert" in cold climates and agricultural land (hey, I'm off the back 40 in Canada, we get LOTS of the white stuff up there...), most farmers plow fields in the fall when the ground is firm -- just can't do it in the spring. So the ground poking up under the snow is chocolate brown. 2) Grasses in fields left fallow turn tan in colour after the frost, they don't stay green. 3) The blue shadows on snow is a nice observation, but it is VERY subtle, and only happens due to the low angle of the sun relative to the horizon. Less is more in this case if you're going for that look. 4) Snow is white, and white, and white. It doesn't matter how thick it is, or what's underneath it (unless it pokes thru) it is white. period. And maybe just my opinion, but I find the trees arranged a little too orderly as far as spacing goes. Could use some more "randomness" if possible thrown in for a more natural look. Just IMHO, take it as you will, trying to be positive and supportive becuase I'd love to use it... Best of luck, Happy New Year -
Naw, it's Fokking looking GREAT!!!! Wonderful work, nice engine... Hope nobody takes offense, just having a bit of fun and passing on some much deserved kudos to a talented man. Well, I think you are a man... hard to tell, Bortdafarm??? Could be a Swedish woman's name... anyways, I digress, looong day, feeling punchy...

I still have my copy of AoA in a safe place!!! I had no idea it was collectable, what's it go for? Used to play it in the car with my brother ad friends on long trips (we we're driving). Funny. Again, best of luck in your endeavor. I don't know much about game engines, etc. but I can 3D model and use PS. Also, I have access to THE BEST library on aviation likely anywhere (hundreds of titles on WW1 alone), so if you need a particular manuscript, chances are I could find it. And I'm not blowing hot air here, I'd like to help, tho I only have so many hours at lunch

some rigging and passable decal placement job...looking more the part Hey! That's really shaping up!!! You are too modest. A question though, I'm just taking a quick look at my Jane's Fighting AC of WW1 (the only thing I have handy) and I noticed your undercarriage is of the earlier Fokker monoplane type (Uberursel motor). Is this a deliberate choice? The later Eindecker appears at least to me from a grainy photo taken at the front-side 1/4 to have regular V-shaped pipes undercarriage rather than the back-set "parallelogram" [for lack of a better term] I see on the earlier one in the book. Or do they have the same structure and it is a trick of perspective? I am no Fokking expert so I will defer to expert opinions... and I'm sure there is no shortage of those around... Just though it was an unusual departure from how FE has been largely doing a reverse chronological intro of its 3d planes, and is not meant as any sort of criticism, slight, or general slag of your talents...

There has been some mention of the need for online play and developing a stronger community, but these threads have largely been ignored. Hopefully just in the interim while people have fun against the AI. But I would have to agree with online=community. I was just trying to get RB3D running (I too missed out), but gave up when FE came out. Thank the gods (aka TK )! Thank all the talented 3rd party folks too!!! I'm enjoying every minute of the game, and walking into the forums to see what might be there to download. Christmas came early with the A-Team Camel and Tripe... Joy to the World!

Yes keep on going! I wouldn't judge a low response to your OP all that personally, remember it is a long weekend afterall (longer for us federal types in the DC area). Now, if I remember correctly, weren't you the one getting the 3dsMax CD in the mail, and then your 'puter died??? Maybe time for a new unit? Dual cores make 3D work blaze!!! Keep up the good work! Would love to see the UV map of it...

From my first Camel Flight. Gawd I love that machine!!! Thank you Skunkworks!!! It handles like the game is on 2X don't you think???
-
Sorry I didn't keep up with the thread kendo, and certainly didn't mean to offend if I did (though I see a smile there), I had hoped that was obvious. Nice work...

Hi Ken, Saw your post earlier here, then saw it mentioned over at the Thirdwire forum. As spoken above, nice to see the less popular planes being modeled. That was a completely different war in the air... I do not object to your title on a personal level, although I can sympathesize with those who have flown combat. That said, since you are trying to stir up interest in your one-man-show (thus far) maybe "Down in Flames" ain't such a good title. Just being pragmatic and perhaps a Devil's advocate from a marketing standpoint. Call it by something else just for the working title perhaps?... Just like a previous poster, I am a 3d artist, so I know how to generate the still images you've presented. How close are you to actually getting them into the true acid-test animated and interactive "game mode"? You have a lot of ambition. Best of luck to you and your endeavor.

Thanks for the reply. I got it loaded, and the clouds and sky look amazing!!! However, I also noticed when flying in overcast conditions, and perhaps it was at dawn, that the sky/clouds will flash most disturbing colors. Neon blue, magenta, etc... You may be aware of this. I started a thread over at Thirdwire with some screen caps, and another person posted a video link. I love the mod, is there any way to rectify the "bug" if it can be called that...

Hello Indio, Me thinks you've got a talent for understating your talent here, hope I don't ever go up against you online!!! I moved up to normal enemy (hopefully after toughening up my green wings a bit...) and still find it a good challenge, especially after modding the Alb and Fokker INIs to get rid of the landing gear drag. [Hmmm, the lingo just kind of grows on you, doesn't it!?!]. Agree with you on the Gotha's, I go at 'em from below in a fast vertical zoom, but watch out for those loose bombs when that beast falls apart... I flew the newest Fokker for the first time last night, set a quicky intercept mission, and turned to see who was with me... The whole bloody jasta must have come!!! How they all got into the air and in formation at once was impossible [should have taken a screen shot, have been saying that alot lately...]. There was over a dozen of us, vs. at least as many Spads and SE5s... I had never flown in anything like that... That Fokker is an amazing plane, much more agile than any Allied bird, climbs like a rocket too. I got an SE5 quickly before being jumped on by multiples (my own fault), and going to Valhalla. ANYWAYS, my point is, I find the missions to be very unpredictable wrt who will be in the sky. I do an army co-op sortie, set enemy air activity to heavy, and then can fly for 15 min or more and not see a d__ thing after my bombing run!!! This has happened over and over and over again. I end up going after the balloons [which should have much more ack-ack around them from what I've read, only the most brave went for them...] for want of something to shoot at, ... Maybe its the game AI... Anyone with similar experiences???
