I was his great grandson's basic training instructor. Gen Tibbets was a hell of a man. Edit And I think it was his grand nephew not grandson. I have to find that flight training book. It's like a year book of sorts. BG Tibbets signed it. Sheesh this was 1995. When I go home on leave I will try to find it and scan it for all to see if anyone is interested. He was a very nice person to talk to.

In fact one of my troops is in Iraq now assigned to the Marines as their command and control liason. She is going on on patrols and missions like anyone else.

There are crew chiefs, there are transportation pukes, even admin clerks who are getting pulled for convoy escort duty. They get a 2 month course at Camp Bullis,Tx then they go to Iraq as foot soldiers. Some are even attached to Army units. No one is immune anymore.

I think if RB had made that clearer the wagons wouldn't of been circled. Still even then I stand by what I have said. You wear the uniform, be ready for what comes with it. If my wife and I, both active duty, for 16 years so far, have 4 kids, and have been apart already for 2 years currently can do it anyone can. We have survived Korea, Bosnia, Haiti, Guam, Kosovo.....and countless other deployments. Funny thing.....the birth of our children.....9 months after each deployment.....hmmmm

For those of us who have served or are serving, anyone want to post some pics of what they looked like in uniform? I will start. The wife and I in 2005. My father, CMSgt Slavens Me as a TI in 1996 Me taken a few days ago in my new USAF uniform just before I went on duty to the Command Post.

Eraser it went right over your head. So you are saying that by me being in the USAF I am avoiding combat? Because that is what you are implying. In fact it seems like you are condoning that he wants to avoud Iraq and Afganistan. I can tell you this no one in their right mind wants to go there and get their ass shot at. But making grandious statements like I want to join but avoid the bad that comes with it is indeed cowardly. And to say that Bush, Gates and the Joint Chiefs don't care is a bulls**t statement in itself. If you think they don't care about what happens to us then you are on crack. They do not take pleasure in sending us into harms way in which we could be killed. Anyone who thinks that is a fool.

I mean if you are going to join the miltary.....you can kind of expect something to happen. That is the nature of it. I would of gladly given him advice had that statement not been in there. I stick to what I said though. Its cowardly IMHO.
