You are forgetign one very important thing, what the modders interest is. Maybe that person wants to do all versions of a particular aircraft because he doesn't have the interst in a Bucc or a Voodoo. So saying that "there is somewhat of a tendancy to try and recreate every conceivable version of a particular aircraft" is moot at best. If a person isn't interested in it then its not going to get done.
