  1. That's Harold Wilson and Dennis Healy for you. The Labour government that came in after Macmillan took it upon themselves to emasculate much of the British defence industry (see demise of RN fixed wing carriers). Granted, 60's Britain was a pretty austere place (despite the Beetles, etc.), but to destroy the likes of the TSR2................. Then again, England did win the World Cup in '66, so the money went somewhere. And Concorde survived.
  2. As in Skippy's shot, the Blackburn shares the same kind of exhausts as the Scimitar, with that shaped 'extrusion' from the fuselage to marry with the engine. It's hard to tell from your shot. Keep up with the good work.
  3. Very nice! Now, give us a Royal Navy skin. Where she really belongs.
  4. ................although, tricky thing is, I have a Norman French name. Now, I don't think my fellow inhabitants have cottoned on yet........... what with the blonde hair.................... but if you could see yourselves creating a Norman airforce also...................... that would be great, in case things get desperate.
  5. Frankly, being a good Middle Saxon, from the Wixan tribe................ I think we should get an airforce. Headquarters, RAF Northolt. What remains (if anything) of the Queen's Flight. God Save our Sovereign Lord, Aethelberht.
  6. This is making me think of laying down the 'increasingly sexy ship' (in the words of Borat)............ Littorio
  7. Conti de Cavour/Guilio Cesare could stand in for Andrea Doria/Caio Duilio as the two classes looked much the same from a distance. So that's four Italian battleships right there. My ancient (and inaccurate) model of a Soviet Chapaev class cruiser might pose nicely as an Italian cruiser as Soviet construction at the time was influenced by Italian design. My 'Foch' cruiser could pose as Italian at a pinch. Just some thoughts off the top of my head.
  8. Gramps hasn't been around here for a long while. You might be able to get in touch with him via the A-Team site/forum.
  9. David meets Goliath...................
  10. Whilst sorting through virtual stuff................ I came across this RN light cruiser which needs to be completed............ at some stage.
  11. Decent flight deck operations.................... most of my flying involves some sort of carrier.
  12. Naming for American carriers took a decidedly bad turn when they began to be named after people. (I give FDR a break........... four terms, WWII, and died in office.) What about Yorktown, Lexington, Essex, Midway, Enterprise, Coral Sea, Hornet , Wasp, etc., etc................................... Gorgeous!
  13. Count me a little confused, convention wise, but the first capital ship launched under George VI, was named after his father, George V (which I assume was a re-name for the original KGV dreadnought)..............
  14. Twilight of the Gods...............
  15. Is that something the A-Team released? Otherwise, I wasn't aware there was a USS Essex floating around.
  16. True, carriers have been the 'capital' ships post WWII, but the RN has a good selection of carrier names to use. The other dirty, little secret (or secrets) regarding these ships............... will there be the crews and planes to man them............. and useful numbers of suitable escort ships (destroyers, frigates, etc.) to create viable taskforces. (See UK Treasury.) As for building one. Interesting project, but low on the priority list.
  17. Well, if they ever get built.................... (they've been in the works for years). I'm not sure if design has been completely finalized (I've seen various proposals), but as for the two mini-islands (according to that video), a side lift requires an island gap for flightdeck access. Perhaps a weight-saving measure also, giving good visuals for flight operations (as opposed to a long, continual, heavier island). The ships could do with a name change also. Queen Elizabeth and Prince of Wales don't do much for me (being battleship names). I'd rather have another Eagle, Victorious, Hermes, etc., etc.
  18. Got bored of looking at Hermes' island (got a cold), so did a bit of work on Vanguard.
  19. Nice. I might have to give First Eagles another go. It's been a while since I've wandered around above the trenches.
  20. About three years ago, I made a model based on Lego's Star Wars Snow Fighter (I think that's it) for my son to fly in the TW series........ I don't know if that fits the bill, but I'd be more than willing to donate it.
  21. Then again, it might have been Victorious!.................... ;)
  22. Hermes, Far East Fleet, Malaysian Confrontation, Late '60's..............
