Herr Prop-Wasche replied to Herr Prop-Wasche's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hello, gents! After I posted version 2.1 to the forum, I fired up OFF to fly and test the DH2 a little more. The DH2 has been frustrating to mod, as it has refused to live up to its nickname, "the spinning incinerator." Well, I had forgot that I had made one itty, bitty, tiny little change to the DH2 DM just before I packed everything up in a zip file and uploaded 2.1 to the forum. Well, you can probably guess what happened: all my DH2 pilots and wingmates were getting shot down in flames! My last change to the DH2 apparently made them go from fireproof to something a little more flammable. Although you can still fly with or against them and not always get them to catch on fire, I felt the effect was now overdone, so I went ahead last night and did a quick little fix up so that they are more resistant to fire. Attached to this post is the fix to the DH2. Simply unzip the file into the MODS folder of your JSGME installation, start JSGME, apply HPWDM 2.1 if you have not done so already, then apply the update. P.S. The update also contains a minor update to the Halberstadt. -

HPWDM 2.1 update View File Readme File 19/08/2010 ------------ HPW Full Campaign Damage Model for OFF BHaH HITR v2.1 by Herr Prop Wasche Zip file contents: HPWDM2.1\aircraft folder with 477 individual aircraft folders and .xdp files readme.txt INSTALLATION: Important! This version of the damage mod is intended to be used only in conjunction with Jonesoft's Generic Mod Enabler and should not be installed UNLESS JSGME has already been installed into your CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields game folder. With JSGME, installation and use of this, or any mod, is very easy. Simply extract the contents of the HPWDM2.1 zip file into the MODS folder which is created when you install JSGME into OFF. The mod is correctly installed if you see the readme.txt and the following folder structure inside the MODS folder: HPWDM2.1\aircraft\Alb_DIII_AC1, etc. To load the mod, simply run JSGME, highlight the mod you wish to use, click on the top button, and then start your game. That's it! NOTE: This mod may be used in both QC battles AND the main campaign. ------------ Version History 2.1 --Fuel tanks are now more resistant to major leaks but are still susceptible to minor leaks and are somewhat more likely to catch fire if substantially damaged. --Wing and wing-tip hit points adjusted on some aircraft. --Nose structures now slightly stronger in several early and mid-war aircraft. --Somewhat higher probability of pilot "hits" for most aircraft. --On DH5 only, fuel tank hit points now higher for main tank, slightly lower for secondary tank. --Eliminates the "engine block popping out of the fuselage" effect seen in some aircraft. Sound Tweak II. 100% improvement

I saw Winston's note and realized I may not have thanked you for this mod. Really great work! Maybe I have a hidden sadistic side, but I can't help but grin sometimes when I hear the sound of an exploding engine with your soundtweak--unless it's my own, of course! Thanks, C! -

Okay, the update to the HPWDM is ready and will be uploaded to the forum for approval in just a few minutes. As I have probably mentioned before, once I start tweaking I find it difficult to stop until everything is "just right," so that is the reason for the slight delay. From the 2.1 readme file, here is a list of the major changes: --Fuel tanks are now more resistant to major leaks but are still susceptible to minor leaks and are somewhat more likely to catch fire if substantially damaged. --Wing and wing-tip hit points adjusted on some aircraft. --Nose structures now slightly stronger in several early and mid-war aircraft. (This slightly lowers the chances of catastrophic fuel leaks). --Somewhat higher probability of pilot "hits" for most aircraft. --On DH5 only, fuel tank hit points now higher for main tank, slightly lower for secondary tank. --Eliminates the "engine block popping out of the fuselage" effect seen in some aircraft. (Olham may especially appreciate this one)! A major part of work on this update was in adjusting the likelihood of fire and fuel leaks. One thing I wanted to do was to slow down the rate of fuel loss from major leaks. Now, although the chances of a fuel leak are about the same, you are less likely to completely run out of fuel in only a few seconds. Be careful, though! As long as you still have fuel, you can still catch on fire. Out of the frying pan, they say.... I hope everyone enjoys the update. As always, if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, just let me know right here. -

Gotcha on the "flamers." I can't be entirely positive, but based on my tweaking and testing, I think one way to eliminate them is to adjust the hit points on the wings, wing-tips, and maybe the ailerons so that the engines do not get too damaged before the wings have accumulated much damage. I was working on the DH5 and noticed that occasionally one would light up but keep going in a gradual descent before eventually crashing. I found that if I reduced the wing and wing-tip hit points that more planes would go out of control before catching on fire and that the ones that did catch on fire tended to also go out of control because of excessive damage to the wings. Just something to think about, I guess. -

Marvelous storytelling, Lou! I am only half way through reading, but can tell you have had some interesting exploits. I particularly like the way you have sprinkled in the authentic German words and awards--really adds to the atmosphere of the piece! To Herr Blum: Zum Wohl! -

Thank you for the endorsement, Hellshade. Nevertheless, there is always something else that seems to cry out for tweaking! My update should be ready either tomorrow or Thursday. In addition to the fuel leak problem, the update will slightly strengthen the nose of some of the early and mid-war aircraft and make some small adjustments to the "fire chances" of some of the Albs and Nieuport's. -

Duh! Just after posting, I realized what you are talking about. You must be talking about the old P2 bug where some planes caught fire but kept on flying, seemingly without ill effect. I haven't noticed this testing my DM, but I will be on the look out for it. I could be wrong, but adding an "explosion" effect immediately after the fire event might reduce the chance of "flamers." -

Pol, Perhaps something got lost in translation, or maybe I am growing more dense with each passing day, but I can't quite make out what you are saying there, old bean! To be honest, although I copied and pasted a fire effect line into the fuel tank component to try and add a little more "fuel to the fire," I don't know if I've actually been able to trigger the effect--the aircraft is usually so shot up by that point that it crashes of its own accord before any flames from hits to the fuel tank have had a chance to appear. I've noticed that fire most reliably appears from shooting up the engine, however. Perhaps you are saying that the engine is the only place where you can get the plane to catch on fire, even if you (or I) place a fire "trigger" in some other component? -

A short update on the DM... I will be releasing an update for the DM in a few days to deal with a problem I have noticed with fuel leaks. The new DM may have resulted in some fuel leaks becoming a bit too common, especially major fuel leaks that result in all of your fuel draining out in 30 seconds or so. I have revised this so that instead of a minor leak followed by a moderate leak, you get two minor leaks instead, followed later by a major leak and an increased chance of fire if the fuel tank is substantially damaged. I haven't noted any other problems, but if you think you have seen something wrong with the new DM, now is the time to speak up! -
Flying time still not correct?
Herr Prop-Wasche replied to vonOben's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I'd like to put in a good word for vonOben, as well. He has been helping me to test my DM and has been very supportive, even though I am sure he disagrees with some of the things I have been doing, too. I know for a fact that he is never malicious or says anything out of spite. He's just a passionate fan of WWI aviation, as are 99% of the other visitors of this forum. Carry on... -

Olham and Hellshade, The DM is entirely separate from the beta FM that Olham has. Although the DM covers all of the aircraft in HiTR, the FM only covers Albatros' types. Also, only some people are able to get the FM to work with their computer, so I have not released it to the general public. The FM is contained in a file called AlbsFM.zip, while the DM is in a file called HPWDM2.zip. -

Awesome video, Hellshade! Thanks for posting it in this thread. One thing: don't get the idea that every plane you shoot at will eventually go down in flames. For one thing, Hellshade is a "hell" of a shot! Also, I worked very hard to make some aircraft harder to go up in flames while others are somewhat more "flammable.' In particular, the Se5a and the Albatros' should now be somewhat harder to light up. Most of the others should be about the same as in stock, but their engines should be a little tougher, at least initially. Be sure to be careful with aircraft you think you have heavily damaged that have dived away. I did that on a test flight only to have the bugger come back up while I was chasing someone else and shoot up my engine! -

Personally, I'm going to try a Hannover career at the start of Operation Michael in the spring of 1918. I might last for a whole extra mission with the new DM, if I am lucky! -
