  1. Couldn't the devs go even a bit further in masquerade, by giving it more strength and twin Spandaus? That could lure even me into flying them again. Bullethead - if you still have enough space below, when she falls sideways: give her full rudder in the same direction, and stick in opposite, until her nose points down instead of her wingtip; then catch her up. If you DON'T have enough space - well, then it may be even too short for a prayer. I try to avoid tighter turns at low altitude. But hey! I even downed two Nieuport 11 with my Eini!
  2. Well, TaillyHo, I'm not the "hawkeye" really. The "trick" was, that during the whole fighting, I had crossed my path with Gerhard Bassenge's several times (his hallmark is a black fuselage with white bands around it aft of the cockpit). After the cutting, you don't see it so clearly, but I knew, that he had flown in opposite direction and was behind me, and higher. But to be honest, the guy who shot up the Tripe might have been his wingman. But when he passed over my craft after the kill, I thought I saw that black-white fuselage. I used Bassenge's name as a narrative addition to the story, cause I thought, some here would know him as a Jasta 2 ace. My fighting here was not at all elegant. We were still climbing, while the Triplanes as the attackers were higher, and they made good use of their energy, by flying almost boom and zoom. So I could never really reach any, they were always faster. That's why I wasted a lot of ammo in long distance shots. I wanted to keep them away from my friends and to damage them at least, to make them easier prey for the others. elephant, I had the same problem with my previous system. Running the sim, plus TrackIR, plus FRAPS is quite a lot to calculate for the CPU. I cannot say, if it would help to drop Anti-Aliasing - worth a try. You must check then, if it is set up in OFF Graphics Config (where it never worked for me) or in your GPU's control manager. Best is to switch off everywhere. You won't see that in the video.
  3. "Tch! Der Eindecker only "falls sideways", ven der pilot does not do sometzink else vizz it!" Does anyone know, if the E.IV in OFF has twin guns?
  4. Reading your title, I thought you meant the Folland Gnat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HB87KLfU4Y This song would also fit your situation, I think. The torture never stops. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVUgQEnxC0g&feature=related
  5. Where have you been all the time, Carrick? All the TrackIR users talked about it so often here. And they all say the same: that they don't remember how they could habe been flying without the device. It is small like a webcam; there's a reflector you wear with a cap, or another one attached to headphones. It is not cheap - but worth every penny. You can watch the TrackIR demo or my last air combat, to see what it does: You may get a bit "air-sick" first, but later it feels very natural. I would get it - if I didn't have it already.

  7. Yeah, maybe they didn't know the name of the German gun. The irony is, that the famous "Spandau" was a Maxim - a British Mg with German improvements.
  8. Jasta 2 was sent out to fly a patrol, but then instead... My last sortie I had fortunately recorded with FRAPS, cause it was surprising. We were supposed to fly a patrol south of Lens. Instead, we sighted Flak puffs short after takeoff. The video shows quite well a situation of surprise at rather low altitude. Without any Labels, TAC or other help, it is quite difficult to find out, what is going on around you; which of the specs are EA, and which are your friends, and all that; plus constantly checking 6. You could easily get dizzy. That's what this video demonstrates pretty well IMHO. Enjoy! Oh, and make sure to watch it in the highest possible resolution - you can choose that below the YouTube screen.
  9. Yes, I read it in "No Parachute!". I was wondering, why the "Hun" had a Lewis gun???
  10. Well, all I know is, that there is a number of people who are seriously suffering from E Coli, found of cucumbers from Spain. How the E Coli got on the cucumbers, and where that happened, has still to be researched. No paranioa - but nobody would like to get such a nasty infection.
  11. Well-lll - if you use Spanish cucumbers... ?
  12. Of course, Godzilla, Frankenstein, Wolfman and the Ninja Turtles!
  13. Calls for another Japanese horror-thriller. "Green Monster Cucumbers vs the Fukushima Nuke Power Plant"
  14. That should be a good reason for flying a British campaign. But even if the Zeps will not appear yet - there will be the big Gothas and HPs. Reasons for everone!
  15. Indeed, Widowmaker - and that wasn't the most black one. There was one about a guy who jumped with no parachute from 14.000 feet, smashing on the runway like a doll filled with strawberry jam. THAT one was so dark I didn't post it. After reading some about those days, I am thinking more and more, that the "common man" in those days was a lot harder in many ways. Not only tougher, but I really mean "harder" - against others and much against themselves. And they surely were far less fastidious.
  16. Well, I had green cucumbers with friends last weekend, although we knew about this matter. We carefully washed them first, and then we totally peeled off the green. And we are all still alive and well. But then those may have been Dutch cucumbers? I bet, when you follow the above proceedure, it shouldn't be dangerous.
  17. In Other Words RFC squadron song As a pilot in France I chanced over the lines And there I met an Albatros Scout. I t seems that he saw me, or so I presumed, His manueuvres left small room for doubt. He sat on my tail without further delay, Of my subsequent action I think I might say - My turns approximated to the vertical, I deemed it most judicious to recede. I frequently gyrated on my axis And obtained colossal atmospheric speed. O descended with unparalled momentum My propeller's point of rupture I surpassed, And performed the most astounding evolutions - In other words - I SPLIT-ASSED! And here is once again the famous song of 54 Sqdn: We Haven't Got a Hope in the Morning Song by 54 Squadron, RFC When you soar in the air on a Spowith Scout And you're scrapping with a Hun and your gun cuts out Well, you stuff down your nose 'til your plugs fall out Cos you haven't got a hope in the morning. For a barman woke me from my bed I had a thick night and a very sore head And I said to myself, to myself I said 'Oh! We haven't got a hope in the morning! We were escorting Twenty-Two. Hadn't a notion what to do, So we shot down a Hun and an FE too! Cos they hadn't got a hope in the morning. We went to Cambrai all in vain The FE's sais, 'We must explain, Our cameras broke; we must do it again,' Oh! we haven't got a hope in the morning!
  18. Hmmm - could have been RAF_Louvert - or UncleAl - or even myself! (We don't know what we do in our sleep, do we?) Well, there will be better experts to help with book tips. But a good question would be, how quickly the technological developments advanced in only 4 years time. Because all forces got to understand, how important it was for reconnaisance and artillery oberservers, who controlled the air space. Welcome to OFF, mafiozo! I'll have a virtual Warsteiner Pilsener! And if you give me your town and country, I'll add you to our OFF Forum Pilots' maps.
  19. Shows us, that our crates only fly with electric power. I hope you can get back in the air soon.
  20. Looks half the way to Salzburg to me, Lou - does your CO know, where you waste all that petrol?
  21. Is that a user's mod or is it really there in standard OFF, Lou???
  22. Yep, been flying here several times. Also this one, which is sooooo touching for an old Albatros fan:
  23. That is a strangely touching find - thanks for posting, DonL. After all those years, there is still even some camo painting on some helmets. Grizzly indeed!
  24. An almond scone! Now that's what I call a very good idea! Hmmmm!!!! Scones!!!!! I'd prefer a good quality blend os Assam teas with it, if it is possible. With candy rock and cream!
  25. Let me take the chance to remember and to thank all those men and women, who helped fighting down the regime of the Nationalsozialisten - short: Nazis - I would have hated to live under such dictatorship. Those men and women fought a fight, that did cost so many of them their health, or even their lives, and most of them the inner calmness and peace of their souls. Thank you all!
