Just looked it up. The official movie site said that there was fighting in the tunnels, which must mean that enemy crews occasionally criss-crossed their tunnels! I wonder if this is true, or did they need more interesting things for the movie than digging tunnels (not to mention the pretty girl on the poster...)? I mean, if the two sides are fighting in the tunnels, both ends have been compromised, now what? Interesting, thank you!

Well, my Wing Commander & I are spending a quiet Sunday afternoon at home. Her uncle is dying, we expect to get word almost any time that he has passed. And looming offshore is this hurricane, which is forecast to take an unusual track off shore up the East Coast of the US and then turn inland, of all places, in the New Jersey & Delaware area. A perusal of Olham's Pilot maps shows that many of our fellow OFF'ers are in the path of this storm, and so I thought a "Sandy" thread might be nice so we can check in and make sure our friends are OK. I suspect the mountains will protect Western PA from the worst of things, but our friends in Eastern PA, New Jersey, Delaware, Virginia, New York and New England could take a real pounding. Our thoughts and prayers to you all! Tom

Yeah, I was playfully yanking your chain about Pittsburgh, the non-uniform spelling gets a lot of people. You know, there is an Amish community about 90 miles west of here in Ohio, centered around a small town named Berlin - and the locals insist it is pronounced with the accent on the first syllable. I figure since the Amish speak a dialect of German they ought to know, but what say you? Or is it just their local preference? We are very fortunate when it comes to my son. He can read, write, do simple mathematics, can speak clearly, ride a bicycle, and help us around the house and yard. But when he reads, it is with that "flattened" sort of speaking that, even though he is indicating emotion, it makes it sound like a poorly rehearsed play where the actors aren't fully into their characters somehow. I have that one pinned up on my cubicle wall! And... <ahem> it's Pittsburgh. 'Twas quite a fight for the "h" I gather... My autistic son just loves them, we have the whole 3 volume set. He reads them aloud, and his expressions are priceless! We always laugh about his parent's "C" shaped heads when they are yelling at him. Back story on that strip is that Bill Watterson is from Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and so is likely a fan of the Cleveland, Ohio sports teams. Each city is always busting on the other one, we call Cleveland "the mistake by the lake", for instance. Both towns once had many steel mills and were just filthy & smoky; both towns have had instances of the rivers catching on fire due to floating industrial waste; but both are much, much nicer now that the mills (and the jobs, one of which was mine) are gone. The rivalry between the (American) football teams, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cleveland Browns, was so strong that when the Browns moved to Baltimore and became the Ravens, it continued just as bitterly. The new Cleveland Browns aren't quite the challenge, as I gather, but I may be wrong - I don't follow pro sports that much. and HH - stop making me want a Harley again!

We're all watching this one! I sure hope these are recoverable and flyable, it would be fantastic!

My brother in law is looking for a Fokker trplane that had yellow on the back half of the fuselage. I seem to recall that Lothar von Richtoven's plane was painted that way. he'd like to do a model and is looking for a paint scheme. Thanks to any who can help! I am surprised they renamed him in Germany, too! But sometimes names don't translate so well, so we shall see if Herr Olham can shed any further light on the subject.

He was one of my favorites, too, but i must admit he was behind Peanuts and Calvin & Hobbes. They remain my all-time favorites. I can't get through Linus's recitation in "A Charlie Brown Christmas" without getting a little misty. But Andy Capp's rugby matches and his run-ins with the vicar, and all that - he was a good ol' ne'r-to-do-well!

I thought it was grand, actually! I love hearing more imaginative terms, so many today just reach for profanity to express extremes. I like subtle or understated ways of expression! And you almost never hear someone say "He got a good shellacing today!" When you do something good, sometimes you'll here the term, "Well, that's a feather in your cap!" so when you said "deplume" someone I immediately thought of you snatching that away - especially from cocksure 19 year-olds!

Stick time is always good time! I also figure to continue to hone my skills with flight lessons, etc, in FSX. I just wish I had more time for fiddling with it. With UTX USA, I can clearly spot where my home should be, and I'd really like to put t in there!

This is why I tell my beloved Wing Commander and comptroller that I really need a good dSLR - preferably with effective "film" speeds up to ISO 12800... just sayin'... Beautiful shots, Dave! Back when the kids were still home, I used a professional Kodak 3200 film pushed to 6400 to shoot concert pics without a flash. Others had their cameras taken!

Well, sir, it has been quiet. Some folks have been doing work on an Italian expansion. I'm not a modder myself, though, so I've only seen comments going by. But yeah, It's been quiet on both boards. I'm sure anticipation for WOFF is part of it, but in my own case, I've been very busy IRL. Hoping that the earlier darkness will allow my to get some stick time in. Glad to see you back! I can't answer your question, as I think that's in the hands of the developers, and they are more readily reached over at the new official forums - http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/forums/89/1/Over_Flanders_Fields.html But they do pop in quite a bit over here, really, so I don't know if you absolutely have to double-post. And I'm with you - this one is the best - I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for the release of WOFF, but even now OFF-HiTR is quite the experience.

Not to mention, most Iranians (AFAIK) actually like the US. It's the mullahs that are the problem. (Thought of this too late to edit...)

Well, Flyby, that's exactly right. We're all spending ourselves broke on what we dare not let happen. When I look at the situation in Iran, and the constant saber rattling by Ahmadinnerjacket, and we have an ugly situation there. With Iran's ties to terrorist groups, do you think that the rets of the world could stop their nuclear ambitions? The US could certainly bomb them clear back to the Stone Age, but at what price? Nuclear materials on the loose everywhere, and I don't think the Russians would be too happey with us. Yes, it is an ugly world...

Well, Flyby, it's not a waste in that something had to be done. Aggression must be met and stopped, and all that. It's just that war itself is such a horror, and ultimately, and unnecessary waste of lives, time, and materials. They are truly impressive feats of engineering and workmanship, though. I got to tour a WWII aircraft carrier in Corpus Cristi, Texas, and yow! What a piece of work! Really something. But I couldn't Finnish the article our friend posted! (Ba-dump-tiss!)

You know, to get a bit more serious about it, I actually think it could - if it could help people realize just how horrific, how wasteful, how awful that war actually is, and the bald courage, the amazing skill, the tremendous suffering and sacrifice that these men had and gave for us. The thing I like about these simulators is that they aren't gratuitous shoot'em up games - if you can't fly, you're dead. You don't have lasers on your plane- you miss way more than you hit, and one hit doesn't (usually) send your enemy spiraling earthward. And you run out of ammo, fuel, even sky! I'm sure you've escaped a furball and found yourself with sweaty palms, rapid pulse, even flopped back in your chair with relief as you gather your wingmen, make sure everyone's there and head for home - or the letdown when someone hasn't made it back. It gets real, real quick! I hope I get more time this winter, and I hope the dev's do, as well, to devote to this. I don't know if you caught it, but I posted somewhere else about a quick scenario I flew the other night and didn't last very long... every time I jump in the cockpit, I am just amazed at what it takes to stay alive.

Well, I'm pulling for good Scotland, Flyby (England forever! Scotland a wee bit longer! - bumper sticker I saw in Pittsburgh). But I'm with Hasse Wind. The release of WOFF would brighten my world tremendously! By the way - which MSM were you talking about - Scotland's, or the USA's? Because ours has gone to the point of utter madness; I might as well get my news from the pulp papers at the supermarket checkouts.
