It's really quite easy. Simply change the aircraft from F-4J to FA-18A. The mission file is a text file so you can simply type it in; just be sure that you use the exact file name for the aircraft you want to use (ex: FA-18a, vs. FA18A). You may get some issue with the dates; i.e. mission date prior to aircraft release, but that is easyily fixed if it comes up. A second option is to change the aircraft type using the drop down menu in the mission loading screen. Or, a third option is to use one of the mission editors (KMD, Le Missioneur) to change the aircraft type. By using one of the editors, you can also easily change any other mission parameters with a few clicks of a button.

Improvements
tank03 replied to Fates's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I've often stumbled upon something great when I've been looking for something else. I think organization is good, but there is something quasi-attractive about having to rummage through stuff to get what you want. It can turn up some gems that you weren't anticipating. -
The files are found in the WOV/WOE program file. Typically you can get there by going to My Computer and selecting the hard drive. Then select Program Files and scroll to the WOV/WOE program file. Within that file select Objects/Aircraft. Within each aircraft file is a data.ini file. Open the data ini (it's a text file) and scroll down (about halfway) until you get to the guns/weapons info. Here you can make any changes you want to the guns and the types of weapons the aircraft can carry. Consult this Knowledge Base article on weapons editing for more complete info. Good luck. http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=12099

You could edit the aircraft data.ini to increase the stock ammo. For instance scroll down in the A-7 data ini and change the value as indicated below: InternalGun1] SystemType=FIXED_GUN GunTypeName=20MM_Mk12 InputName=FIRE_PRIMARY_GUN MuzzlePosition=-0.68,5.17,-0.73 LightPosition=-0.75,5.17,-0.73 AimAngles=0.0,0.0,0.0 MaxAmmo=680________________<increase this number to whatever you want MinExtentPosition=-0.65,2.77,-0.33 MaxExtentPosition=-0.45,5.33,-0.17

Does anyone have any tips on using the CBU-14A dispenser? I've tried a variety of delivery tactics, but I really can't seem to get much of an effect from using it; I end up missing a good number of targets. What situations would the dispenser be best used for? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have to agree; Guinness is certainly God's gift to man. I once read an article that said since Guinness was so high in antioxidents, a cardiologist was prescribing it to some of his patients instead of aspirin therapy. Since then I have tried to justify my considerable Guinness consumption by passing it off as health food.

Weapon Volleys

In WOV (and I would assume WOE and SFP1) the right bracket key "]" cycles ripple quantity, and the left "[" cycles through the ripple intervals. -
Third Wire and VISTA
tank03 replied to Jug's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion

I've read quite a few posts about people having significant problmes running any Third Wire games with Vista. It seems that DirectX10 is a problem. Consult this post concerning the issue from Third Wire's forum: "VonHelton, Our games do not officially support Vista at this time. DX10 is not backward compatible with DX9, and therefore, our game will not work in DX10. However, having said that, Vista should have came with DX9L (or DX9-EX or whatever they're calling it now) for backward compatibility, so our game should still work in compatibility mode. If you're getting "missing D3dx9_30.dll", that means your version of DX9 is not up to date. I'm not sure what DX9 updates are included in Vista release (we don't have the release version yet), but the beta versions of Vista only came with basic 9.0c and did not came with all the DX9 updates So you'll just have to run DX9 installer, which I think you can safely do, since it only installs the missing .dlls (and not overwrite any DX10 or DX9-EX dlls). We do plan on upgrading all our games for Vista, but that'll most likely come at much later time (prolly toward the end of this year when Vista is more popular and available). And, that'll most likely be in separate product versions than XP, since there are a lot of changes involved to make it "officially" Vista-compatible - they'll have to run with limited access user rights (ie all .ini and mods would be moved to My Documents/My Games folder), they would use Vista's Game Explorer, utilize DX10, etc etc). I just got a Saitek x-52 and it's working OK but I have a couple questions for those who may have used them. 1. I can't seem to get the mouse buttons on the throttle to work in WOV. I wanted to use them for the camera views but they don't seem to work in the game. I haven't used a profile, just used the WOV options screen to set things up. Is there a problem, or am I doing something wrong? 2. The stick seems to be a bit more loose than I expected. Is this normal, or should I consider mine flawed?

Ironically, I did just that today. I threw in a 160GB hardrive into an empty slot, and added a better graphics card at the same time. So far so good, evreything seems to be working OK so it doesn't seem like I screwed anything up.

It's left me speechless. Too often in our society we casually throw words around like brave and courageous, but these guys are the real thing.

Try the following mod as found in the knowledge base. With it I can now run mostly medium/high level graphics without a hitch with my crappy system. The full article is here (by Chip and Charles): http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=8786 But the graphics mod is this portion (quoted from the above article): "In the flightengine.ini file (in the flightdata.cat) there is something interesting! Under the section for: [HighDetailOption] HorizonDistance=75000.0 DetailMeshSize=6 DetailLevel=1 WaterEffect=1 NoiseTexture=1 MaxTextureRes=0 (you will read -1 here) The last line is the texture resolution aka mipmap LOD setting in the graphic card control panel or any tweak tool. The thing I wondered about is that the stock setting there is -1. That means that the game uses it's own mipmap setting rather than the one I set in RivaTuner. I have set the mipmap LOD to 0, cause a negative value will automatically decrease the fps rate quite a bit. Even -0,5 is too tough. When you know fly with the max detail settings in SF, you will automatically forced to fly with a mipmap detail of -1. That's a heavy load on the CPU cause the standard setting is always 0! On the ground I had around 25fps, now I have 38 with the mipmap distance to 0 and Vsync on. You can set the mipmap distance in OpenGL but not under D3D, so you need a tweaker. Always wondered, why the fps is so low in the cockpit, now I know why. It only affects the highest detail settings cause for the lower detail, there are numbers around 265 which is pretty low. Set it to 0 and you can turn on the cockpit mirrors while the game stays smooth and you can use the highest detail in the game! It runs so much smoother now. Don't know why TK decided to use -1 cause there really is almost no viewable difference in the terrain quality. Hope I could help some of you who had notoriously low fps rates. You can even try a positive value like 0,5 which wouldn't look much different either. So there is no need to drop the detail." Additionally, getting rid of the radar display in the upper right corner sped things up for me as well.

Changing waypoints
tank03 replied to Tede's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
You can usually move most waypoints in the loading screen by selecting the map and using the curser to move the waypoints around. Objective and initial waypoints can't be moved that way. You can edit the mission ini file directly, but a better option is either Kreelin's mission editor (KMD) available here at CA, or "Le Missioneur" available at Check6 (it has an English language option). With either of those two you can make any change you want to any mission (not just waypoints), or create your own. They are both effect, but I find Le Missioneur a bit more user friendly. -
A310
tank03 replied to Anhnguyen's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I know that the RAF used a version of the A310 as an inflight refueler (I know that thanks to PNT who used it in his strafing missions). Yankee Air Pirate has some really cool 707's sitting around the tarmac, and coming and going, in some of their missions; it lends a bit of life to the stock (boring) WOV airfields. -
You could try using Dueces enhanced Desert terrain, it's an alternate set of desert tiles. I've used it to fill in the white gaps while using the Israel 2 terrain (which is based on SFP1 Desert.cat terrain) with my WOV. The knowledge base has a good article on it here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=12230

Never mind. I cleaned out my cookies and things seem to working as before.

Prior to today I was always logged in at CA. If I closed Internet Explorer, or shut off my machine, whne I returned I wwould still be logged in. Now however, if I leave the CA site (to go to another site, for instance)and then return to CA, I have to log in again. Same happens if I close out of the internet and then go back- I always have to re-sign in. I haven't made any changes to my machine, so I assuming it's somethig to do with the site. Any suggestions to correct would be appreciated. It's a pain in the neck to alwyas have to go through the log in process every time.

Eyeballing incoming missiles
tank03 replied to Gel214th's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I don't know about locking a view onto a missile, but there is a great speech mod that has the radio caller ID to whom the missile is targeted. In a muti-plane flight the radio chatter and constant SAM alerts was distracting, especially when most of them weren't heading my way. With this mod I only pay attention when I hear my number called out. It's really been useful: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autom...p;showfile=3836 -
Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time!

I just got the second set of missions from YAP and I can't even begin to tell you how great they are! It's added a whole new life to the game; I can't wait to get some more. You should definitely check them out.

Engine Management and Intercept Altitudes
tank03 replied to JFM's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
2. All my engagements with hostile aircraft occur at ridiculously low altitudes. Is there a way to tweak this in the campaigns, single missions, etc? In his bomb sight mod for WOV/SFP1, dfang included instructions on how to increase the standard operating altitude as follows: "I've noticed that WoV and SFP1 share a common problem... Altitude, or lack of same. Let me elaborate. I've often found myself escorting heavy bombers, (B-52s in one case), at ridiculously low altitudes, such as 10,000 feet. I somehow don't think that Buff drivers would operate at that altitude over North Vietnam! The fix is simple: Open up your Strike Fighters or Wov Flight folder, and using Skypat's extract utility, open up the MissionData.cat and extract the MISSIONCONTROL.INI file. Open the file up in notepad, scroll down to the [Altitude] header, and edit it like so (keep in mind that the values are in meters, not feet): [Altitude] Normal=9000 Low=1500 VeryLow=100 High=9500 VeryHigh=12000 When you're done, simply save the edited MISSIONCONTROL.INI in your flight folder. I think you'll find these values a tad more realistic than the defaults ************************************************** This fix is from Fubar_512,,,,Thanks to him" You could try this in FE and see if that has any effect.
