  1. MiG-23 Tactics

Pretty sure the little box denotes the airspeed in knots Indicated Airspeed (IAS) Mach 1.2 at Sea Level = ~800 KIAS Mach 2.3 at altitude = ~970 KIAS (same as 1330 KTAS / 1535 MPH / 2471 KPH)) True Airspeed (TAS) would be closer to what you are looking for - ie M2.3 = 1330 KTAS btw the top speed for the MiG-23 will only be reachable from around 37,000ft to 60,000ft - its not stated.

  5. MiG-23 Tactics

What altitude are you at? and what figure are you using to determine how fast you are. M1,2 would be the Max on the deck - if you want to see M2.0 then go very high 37,000ft+ clean
  6. MiG-23 Tactics

Tactics for the ultimate MiG-23MLD were to only use high speed slashing attacks against F-15/16 and to never engage in a prolonged turning fight - with the AI you can get away with a lot more close in - although the very poor view from the pit makes it very difficult to keep a tally. (eg if you fly without the red boxes) Keep very low as you are doing and keep fast - if you are flying after about 1975 then flying at height is a bad idea. You have limited control over the wingmen unfortunately - but they can be utilised as useful decoys - but yes they will often be wiped out in this type of battle.

  9. Dear DCS Community, First of all, a massive thank you for your patience. We know it is frustrating to be kept in the dark, especially after the bombshell of an announcement that was dropped in January. It was never our intent for our internal issues to go public. Unfortunately we've had to hold off on making this announcement for far too long. Every team and business will at some point undergo difficult times, times where everything is seemingly smashed to pieces and the outlook seems most dire. After having experienced this, we can look forward to a bright future, moving forward as a team that is now stronger than ever. While we appreciate the fact that everyone is eager to know exactly what lead us to the internal difficulties, we feel the need to keep as much of our private matters, private. We're here to deliver top-notch quality DCS products, not to run a forum soap opera. No development team can exist without trust between its' members. Of paramount importance is internal transparency and accountability-- especially with regards to financial transactions. A key issue was identified where this requirement of trust broke down, and as such, steps had to be taken to protect everyone involved in the development of this module. We can confirm that Laszlo “beczl” Becz has recently left the MiG-21 team. Beczl has resigned his position amicably, and without any external or internal pressure to do so. Hence, we are hereby known as Leatherneck Simulations and we are here to stay. This internal restructuring primarily affect those of you who have backed the MiG-21 project on IndieGoGo. To make it abundantly clear: We do not have, nor will we receive, a single cent of the funds raised on IndieGoGo. However: in the interest of goodwill and as a thank you for your incredible support over the years, we will honor each and every backer to its' fullest extent, at our own cost. Some physical items that you are entitled to may be slightly delayed (Shirts, DVDs, etc.). We simply do not have the money required to produce these items en masse before release. In essence, the only difference to you (the backer) -- is that you may have to wait a short period to receive your physical goods. We hope that is amicable. Q&A Hold On! Isn't Beczl the founder of the DCS: MiG-21? Yes and No. The DCS: MiG-21 started as a 50/50 partnership between beczl and Novak Djordjijevic (Dolphin887). Novak has been the driving force for code development on the MiG-21 for the past 3 years, and is responsible for the majority its' codebase. Who is Novak? Novak has been with the project since day one, and has been the main driving force behind the code development of the DCS: MiG-21. The majority of the systems and the AFM can be attributed to Novak. With only 38 posts on the forum to date, it is understandable that he has flown under the radar. Can I get a refund for my IndieGoGo contribution? This is not our responsibility or decision. We will honor your contribution to its' fullest extent at our own cost. We do not have any of the money contributed via the IndieGoGo campaign. Whatever you drama queens. When is this damn thing getting released? While work has continued at a steady pace during these internal issues, it goes without saying that we are now slightly short on manpower and time has been lost. We are looking at several options for release windows. Do not expect a long delay from the previously announced release date. WHAT!? But you said March 30th?! At that time, no one expected something this big to occur and hinder our development progress. We are committed to giving you accurate and realistic time frames. It is what you deserve and what we should be held accountable for. We will see to it that this is the case in the future. But, seriously, when are you releasing? There will be more info on this soon. Promise. What happened to all the videos? The videos are old, outdated and do not paint a proper picture of the module at this point in time. The aircraft is a completely different piece of software relatively to a year ago. We will post new videos very soon. What about the MiG-23? The MiG-23 is not in our near-future plans. It remains an attractive option for us in the long-term, as code commonality with the MiG-21 amounts to roughly 60-70%. We hope to share future plans with you soon. There are things we are incredibly excited to show you. I have more questions? Feel free to ask in this thread. We understand that recent events are frustrating from an outside perspective. We are committed to to DCS and hope we can put your fears to rest. Once again, a sincere thank you for your support, patience and understanding. With your continued support we are here to stay and will help to foster a simulation environment that is everything a simmer could ever wish for. Look towards a new development update for the MiG-21 later today. Sincerely, Leatherneck Simulations DCS: MiG-21bis Team

  21. Putin outdoes Chuck Norris

Russian President Vladimir Putin has been awarded the highest rank in taekwondo, it is reported. While on a visit to South Korea, he received a ninth-degree black belt from Choue Chung-won, president of the World Taekwondo Federation, Russia's ITAR-TASS news agency reports. The Russian president has now eclipsed the likes of martial artist and actor Chuck Norris, who is reported to have an eighth-degree black belt in taekwondo. Vladimir Putin somewhat modestly said of the high distinction: "I'm not sure if I deserve this". He went on to suggest that the event be seen as a promotion of "this beautiful martial art". This isn't the first martial arts achievement by the Russian president, who also has a black belt in judo. He was also reported to have released a martial arts DVD called Let's Learn Judo with Vladimir Putin. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-news-from-elsewhere-24925270
  22. The true story behind the picture above is quite different. In fact this photo was taken on the 1988 Dependents’ Day Cruise of the USS America (CV-66) and the F-14 Tomcat driver who performed this incredible super low, super close pass is Dale “Snort” Snodgrass, a pilot who has become synonymous of Tomcat. Grown at Long Island, Dale’s dad was a test pilot and “Snort” set a new standard within the naval aviation program becoming the first flight school graduate to be selected for the newly formed F-14 pipeline as explained by Snodgrass himself in the book Grumman F-14 Tomcat Bye-bye, Baby…! : “I was the first ensign to complete day/night Tomcat quals, right out of flight school. I was rewarded with the privilege of picking up a brand-new Tomcat at the factory for delivery to the west coast. To make the flight truly historic we stuck another ensign in the RIO (Radar Intercept Officer) seat.” Before arriving to the Naval Air Station (NAS) Miramar, Dale and his RIO made a fuel stop at Luke Air Force Base(AFB): “We’d let the Air Force get a close-up look at the Tom. We were the first F-14 ever seen at that huge base. A general came to greet us at the VIP parking ramp. Luke was scheduled to receive its first F-15 Eagles the next day. At that time no one under the rank of O-4 major had flown the Eagle. Let’ em get a load of a real fighter, Navy style! The final flight over to Miramar was short, so we whacked the Air Force a final time with a sunset takeoff. Zone V (which was the maximum afterburner thrust setting for TF-30 engine) burner to 20,000 feet and still over their runways! The departure controller watched in amazement and then asked our aircraft type. My RIO responded, “We’re an Eagle Eater, Baby…!” In the Navy, Dale amassed more hours in the F-14 than any other pilot, and is considered the “highest time Tomcat pilot”, with over 4,800 hours and more than 1,200 arrested carrier landings and for 14 years he has flown F-14 demos that people still talk about today. Nowadays “Snort” is still in the air shows circuits and he is qualified in the F-86 Sabre, P-51 Mustang, F4U Corsair, T-6/SNJ Texan, MiG-15, MiG-17 and MiG-21. About the low pass over the USS America, “Snort”, at the time Executive Officer (XO) of VF-33 Starfighters, released this interview to John Sponauer: “It’s not risky at all with practice… It was my opening pass to a Tomcat tactical demonstration at sea. I started from the starboard rear quarter of the ship, at or slightly below flight deck level. Airspeed was at about 250 knots with the wings swept forward. I selected afterburner at about ½ miles behind and the aircraft accelerated to about 325-330 knots. As I approached the ship, I rolled into an 85 degree angle of bank and did a 2-3 g turn, finishing about 10 – 20 degrees off of the ship’s axis. It was a very dramatic and, in my opinion, a very cool way to start a carrier demo. The photo was taken by an Aviation Boson’s Mate (by an ABE3 who was the petty officer of third class Sean E. Dunn that was in charge in Launching & Recovering Equipment) who worked the flight deck on the USS America. Just as an aside…the individual with his arms behind his back is Admiral Jay Johnson” who became the Chief of Naval Operations for the Navy.” At this point one question may raises in our minds: was the tactical demonstration well performed the day after this training? Take a look at the photo and judge by yourself. By the way, the image on top is the one of the flyby, the one here below depicts the rehearsal.. http://theaviationist.com/2014/02/12/f-14-buzzes-uss-america/
  23. Vipers during Desert Storm?

1992 AIM-7 and AIM-120 it was 10 SAM sites in the SCANG story - 2 jets per site - they had ECM pods and RWR (ALR-69) - & limited EF-111 support from 60 miles away as only 1 of 2 could make it. SAMS were SA-2, 3 & 6. You should be able to see some physical differences on the ADF
