  1. Hello everyone, It have been so long time since I have ever flown Strike Fighter 2 series and I am re-installing SF2 series from scratch. I went to thirdwire website for patches and I am bit confused now. I have all series of SF2 (SF2, SF2:V, SF2:E, SF2:I, expansion pack 1 and 2). I installed all of these together and merged them. And now I am looking at many different patches which left me confused: http://www.thirdwire.com/downloads_archive.htm Am I supposed to install patch for SF2 (Mar 2012 and June 2012?), SF2:V, SF2:E, SF2:I, Expansion 1 and 2 individually? Or install just one patch? Your advice with my patches is much appreciated. Cheers!
  2. Everyone, Thank to all of your helps, I have figured out what patch to install...I install patch in these following orders after installing SF2 Combo, Expansion pack 1 and 2: Expansion Pack 2 Patch Jan 2011 Expansion Pack 2 Patch May 2011 Strike Fighter Series Patch March 2012 Strike Fighter Series Patch July 2012 Hopes these are correct orders...
  3. That won't work since SF2 Combo was given to me as a gift by my close friend, hence is not part of my Email. He bought it for him and me, so we could enjoy games and help each other with troubleshooting and installing mods in our own computer.
  4. Thank you very much! how about SF2 March and July 2012 patch? Should I install these too?
  5. I don't download these, I installed them using old files from years ago. They are exe files from SF2 Combo, along with expansion 1 and 2. I read that readme recenlty, it still doesn't explain if I should install patch individually for SF2, SF2:V, SF2:E, SF2:I, SF2 Expansion 1 and 2. Should I install patches for each of these or just SF2 patch?
  6. Hello everyone, I saw one of most interesting Russia experimental aircraft called IL-102 that flew in 1982. This aircraft deserve to be flown as 'what if' AC that enters combat service for Russia as strike fighter aircraft. The next thing they probably will do is adding gatling cannons and AIM-9M to WW I fighters. Eagle out...
  8. Hello everyone, I have decided to start modding SF2 by altering and improving afterburner for both default aircraft and add-on aircraft for SF2 series. What motivated me was when I installed Sr-71A Blackbird add-on aircraft for SF2, I realized that there are no afterburner for that Sr-71A, it lead me into researching about how afterburner effect work in SF2. That is when I realized I could change or replace an existing afterburner with new afterburner effect, so I swapped Afterburner with new effect from mod pack for SF2, then I re-sized and position it right into engine of both Sr-71A's exhaust pipe from their engines. This is my result of my first time doing basic effect modding: And now I have a goal, learn how to crate my own afterburner from stretch as first step before doing any further modding. Is there any programs that any of you would highly recommend me to install for effect development for SF2? That is where I need advices from experienced modders of SF2. If any of you want me to upload updated Sr-71_DATA.ini (I will only upload Sr-71_DATA.ini, not model of Sr-71, in order, to respect Capun team's policy), I am willing to upload these updated data.ini so anyone can enjoy these new effects. 10. I have spend alot of time polishing afterburner and their node effects for both F-16A and Tu-22. This is the result of latest progress on F-16A and Tu-22 Afterburner and afterburner node effects: I will start working on F-15A and other aircraft next, and I have learned alot about how these effects works, I am having fun experimenting different codes in .ini flies and materials for afterburner effects. 12. Hello everyone, I have noticed that there is no effect entity in .ini for this specific effect known as WingtipVortexEmitter. I have looked into PARTICLESYSTEM.ini and used search (ctrl + F) for this exactly entity "WingtipVortexEmitte", and there was no match. I looked everywhere in SF2 for WingtipVortexEmitte and yet is not able to find it. So I am wondering if any of you know where I can find WingtipVortexEmitte? The reason why I am asking is because since it is my great goal to improve effects all related to aircraft from afterburner to pressure wave vortex, especially wingtip vortex, I have been learning about how afterburner works and now I am studying different pressure wave vortex but got stuck at WingtipVortexEmitte part since I am not able to find that entity. If anyone know where I can find WingtipVortexEmitte, please let me know. Cheers! Eagle out...
  13. DOH!!! How embarrassing!!!! I can't believe I actually missed that! thank you for pointing that to me... I still really can't believe I missed that... *tucks my head into my shirt in embarrassment* Eagle out...
  14. It look like I have managed to figure out how to do 2 things: 1) scale the length of afterburner (Still adjusting afterburner and is not even done yet) 2) Make afterburner go longer based on speed! I still need to adjust the proper light from engine because, from what I have seen in several sources (videos and picture), even from intense glowing afterburner, it doesn't give much light outside of jet afterburner, so i will reduce the 'light range" that afterburner product while increasing the 'intensive' amount of glowing inside afterburner during night. Here is screenshots of my further progress on F-16's new afterburner and please note the speed at lower left corner: Eagle out...
  15. I am currently exploring more about how Afterburner work in SF2. Default F-16 afterburner look too weak in graphic and doesn't look much like real F-16 afterburner (Please keep in mind, I am very thankful for great SF2 series simulation with hard works done by TK and his team. It is my great goal to improve his simulation into greater level with new effects.). So I have decided to improve F-16A afterburner, and this is default F-16A Afterburner: (Source: http://www.fas.org/m...afterburner.jpg) This is new Afterburner for F-16A, and this new afterburner still have much more room for further improvement. I am working on figuring out how to create a longer version of this afterburner in length and decrease their glowing light range for outside area of afterburner before doing any further improvements. 16. New update on my new afterburner improvement. Tu-22 Afterburner at night New F-105Ds afterburners (replaced default purple afterburner with different afterburner) (Source: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/cb/F-105_Thunderchief_left_rear_view.jpg) Eagle out...
  17. Hello everyone, I have used search engine and went through both SF1 and SF2 'Knowledge Base' and noticed there is no information about effect editing. But if it is still in there and I am not aware of where it, please let me know. Do any of you know where I can find great tutorial on modding effects? I have been tweaking and trying to make afterburner for aircraft longer, more intense in light, but I ended up messing up afterburner length in Effect .ini dancing, so I am wondering if any of you know where I can find good information about editing .ini for effects. I am excited about learning how effects work so I can start improving SF2 in my own paces and sharing these with this community when they are ready in future. Chaoic out...
  18. There is no mods that I know of that would do these new special effects of F-14 afterburner doing that. That is exactly why I am learning how to work on afterburner in first place. It is my goal to improve afterburner effects to give SF2 more immerse experiences. But I am doing it in small steps a time, merging my time with university. The first step I ever did was adding a new effect into SR-71A and I achieved that. The next is to create new afterburner based on existing .TGA file and change color/tweak glowing setting on .tga picture itself where I used them for Tu-22 afterburner effect. Now the next thing I will be doing is learn how to tweak afterburner properties through .ini dancing and I am still seeking for tutorial on these effect .ini editing. After I mastered that, I will try my best to figure out how to make afterburner glowing more intensively at night and make afterburner go longer based on speed. Your comments about how afterburners work based on speed and day/night/cloudy is interesting and helpful to me for my plans for afterburner improvement work. Chaoic out...
  19. That is true, and the reason why I did these afterburner improvement to Tu-22 is because I have notice that modern bomber of Russian, such as Tu-22M and Tu-160 creates blue afterburner during take off. And I am still searching for Tu-22 pictures or videos of afterburner, so for now, I thought I would change their engine to match these engine colors as my practice and experience gaining of doing afterburner improvement. And oh, I will certainly check these Tu-22M add-on mod for SF2 and when I do effect improvement, I will post screenshot here. Eagle out...
  20. Thank you EricJ, I bookmarked that link. and one more thing, is there any of place I can learn about .ini dancing with effects too? I am not able to find .ini effect editing tutor in knowledge base in both SF1 and SF2. What happened to to them? I will continue seeking for these information and hope I will find them. Eagle out...
  21. I don't know what the heck is going on, each time I start quick mission or do quick flight, it never load any mission. all screen was all black and refuse to load anything and said that Strike Fighter 2 stopped working. I reinstalled SF2 from stretch completely, and moved modded SF2 out of way, and have SF2 creating new SF2 folder. I still got same result. I rebooted my window and yet still same problem. I tested other games and simulator, I am not having problem with all of these, except SF2. This is what my system is using: Window 7 64 bit Intel !7 975 3.33 Ghz 12 GB DDR3 Corsair RAM Dual ATI HD 5970 (Crossfire enabled) X-FI Sound blast card I am wondering if anyone had same problem before? I did some searching and is not able to find any good solution to my issues. Any advices about solving my problem will be great help. I spend all day troubleshooting my problems with SF2 and is all stumped now. And oh one more thing, I have SF2 combo (merged) with Expansion pack #1 and #2, with latest expansion pack #2 patch installed. This problem appeared right after I followed this steps exactly for unlocking AI only F-104G and CF-104s. Chaoic out...
  22. Thank you, and I created my first 'Afterburner Effect Improvement " thread at SF2 modding section, please check them out. I also am asking questions from experienced modders about which software is best to use for effect and texture modding for SF2. Here is link to my thread: http://combatace.com/topic/62567-afterburner-effect-improvement/ Chaoic out...
  23. This is first my attempt to improve an existing Tu-22 afterburner effects, after altering/changing/enhancing tga files from combo effect pack for SF2 (by Ryan Crierie "MKSheppard") for now, until I learn how to create my own afterburner texture. (I still am awaiting for advices from mdoders about which software is best for creating texture/effects). This is original Strike Fighter 2 Tu-22B Blinder-A afterburner: Picture of Tu-22M taking off where it revealed the color of afterburner: (Source: http://www.airliners.net/photo/Russia---Air/Tupolev-Tu-22M-3/1789764/L/) This is improved, new afterburner of Tu-22B Blinder-A: Chaoic out...
  24. Yes and I can finally resume studying about making afterburner and afterburner node (using effects instead of LOD). I have installed custom afterburner, re-sized it, and position it right where it come out straight from Sr-71 engine exhaust (for Sr-71 Add-on mod) and it came out great! Here is screenshot: And now I am going to see if I can learn how to create my own afterburner with my own PS element program, then start creating it, where I can make new afterburners for both default SF2 aircraft and add-on aircraft. I also would like to start working on replacing vapor cloud from hard turning with new, improved version too. And finally, I want to experiment and see if I could manage to enable afterburner to 'glow' more intense and change color at night. I have different theories about how it 'could' work but we will see. ;) Chaoic out...
  25. Everyone, I have great news, it look like I am able to run SF2, even without reinstalling them completely. What I did was: 1) Cleaned everything using CClean (explorer, firefox, window temporarily files) 2) Cleaned registry using CClean 3) Ran Avast! all night, but yet no virus found 4) Ran spyware and malware scanner, found several of them, erased them 5) I didn't touch my ATI driver, my driver is still 10.11 and I am not going anywhere until the latest driver are very stable. I am so tired and sick of constant problem updating ATI driver, their driver and software are known to be very problemic so I'll wait until they release fully stable driver/software. For now I am quite happy with my current CCC (from 10.8) and driver (10.11). 6) It appear that my sound driver is VERY old, so I updated them Now suddenly, I am able to load my SF2 into mission completely! :) Chaoic out...
