Dr1 HARD FM - Firecage
By Firecage
The A - Team has given me permission to release this to the forums and combat ace but that doesn't mean they endorse it yet. They may be sitting back laughing to hard to speak yet. Ya just never know.
Enough on that... its tuned for hard FM, Its a freak show to fly, its like riding on glass at times.... but if you work with it some you will find its a mean machine IMHO.
After being shown some articles from people who have been in the cockpits of a dr1, I tried to make the plane have the results they described. The plane seem to be washy and tends to be a bit un ruley but, if you can get hold of the reigns it's a blast.
This FM blows on normal, sorry
This is only version 1.0 trial runs. I have an account on CA and you can msg any useful info to me there for FM suggestions.
Installation :Go to wwi>objects>aircraft>dr1 Back up your dr1_Data.ini somewhere and drop this one in its place.

Mod to enable Max 188's Hi Res tiles in Edward's Flander's Terrain
This small mod allows you to use Max188's stylish high resolution summer terrain with Edwards most excellent Flanders map. The installation is a bit involved, but worth the time if you like Max's tiles.
What I've actually done is paint nine new tiles based on Max's high resolution originals to replace the new tile types that exist in Edward's set (all the others in Edward's terrain are like-for-like replacements of the original First Eagles set, as are Max's high resolution tiles).
Thanks to Edward and Max for the inspiration and hard work that have allowed my small contribution.
Enjoy!

Rene Fonck: 'Ace Of Aces'. Parts 1 & 2
Updated 18/4/08.
Just a quick note to confirm that this mission will work with the expansion pack and
April 08 patch, as long as you have ALL required skins, terrain etc installed.
A Mission For First Eagles.
Bucky's Quick Mission No.5. Rene Fonck: 'Ace Of Aces'. Parts 1 & 2.
Released: 09/05/07... The 89th anniversary of the action depicted in this mission.
============================================================
Introduction:
Ask any student of the first air war to name their top ten WW1 fighter pilots and all the usual
names will crop up, plus maybe, a few lesser knowns. Chances are though, the name Rene
Fonck won't be among them... He's been largely forgotten... Even in his own country.
A true case of criminal neglect IMHO, because Rene Fonck was probably THE greatest fighter
pilot of WW1. The only problem is/was, Fonck knew how good he was and wouldn't let anyone
forget it...He was regarded as a boastful, boorish, braggart, and generally not well liked by
his comrades.
But when you talk the talk, you've got to be able to walk the walk...Fonck could and did!
This mission, which comes in two parts, depicts the events of Thursday, May 9th, 1918. This
was the date that Sous-Lt Rene Fonck of escadrille SPA103, shot down six German aircraft
in a single day...An outstanding feat in itself , but amazingly, he was to repeat it again on
September 26th!
In fact, he brought down two or more enemy planes in one day, an incredible eighteen times
in one year!
His marksmanship was of olympic gold medal standard. He usually expended very little
ammunition when bringing down enemy aircraft. About nine rounds on average.
His official end of war total was 75 confirmed victories, but in his book 'Ace Of Aces', he gave
all the dates for a further 52 unconfirmed victories, which would give him an actual score
of 127.
============================================================
To set the scene:
On May 9th, Fonck didn't even begin flying until 3:45pm because of bad weather, but soon
after crossing the allied lines with his two wingmen, he spotted three enemy two-seaters. He
shot down all three in a fight that lasted just 45 seconds...They all crashed within 400 metres
of each other!
After landing to refuel, he took off again at 5:30pm. It was very cloudy and eventually Fonck
became separated from his two wingmen. He emerged from a dense cloud and immediately
came across another German two-seater and shot that down.
Continuing his patrol, he spotted a flight of four Fokker D.VII's, escorted by five Albatros
D.V's flying slightly above, and ahead of the D.VII's. Weighing up the odds and feeling brave,
Fonck put his SPAD into a dive, positioned himself amongst the nine enemy planes and shot
down the rearmost D.VII.
Alerted by the machine gun noise, the remaining E/A attempted to turn and bring their guns
to bear on Fonck, but this manoeuvre slowed them down, and his momentum allowed him to
pass between them. He then shot down the leader of the patrol and bolted for home, with
seven enemy planes in hot pursuit!
============================================================
Mission guidelines:
As already stated, this mission comes in two parts to more accurately depict the events,
weather and timing of Thursday, May 9th, 1918.
PART 1.
You'll join the action at about 7500 feet, having just crossed the allied lines at 4:15pm. The
weather, which has kept you grounded for most of the day has cleared nicely, Although it's
still quite cloudy.
You're accompanied by your two able wingmen; Lt Fontaine and Cpt Battle. Suddenly, you
spot three specks in the distance...Bosche two-seaters!... Manouevre yourself into a
favourable position and dive into the fray!
Fonck managed to shoot down all three German two-seaters himself...Can you do the same?
Having achieved the mission goal, feel free to press 'ALT+N' to fast forward to your
aerodrome...You can then land, and wait while your ground crew refuel and re-arm your
SPAD...You may want to grab yourself a coffee and a croissant while you wait...
PART 2.
We join the action at 12,500 feet. It's 6:10pm, and you've been in the air for 40 minutes. It's
very cloudy and you've lost your two wingmen, and the light is fading...
You emerge from a dense cloud to find a German reconnaisance plane very close by...Once
you send him down, prepare yourself to dive into the midst of the Fokker D.VII's and
Albatros D.V's!
Fonck shot down two Fokker D.VII's before making a break for home, but do feel free to try
and better him if you think you can!
If you survive, you can navigate your way back to Villers Bretonneaux airfield (or press
ALT+N like I always do!) and land to a rapturous reception from your comrades...Just as
Fonck did.
============================================================
Compromises and game limitations:
1. During the spring and summer of 1918 the German offensive had pushed the allies back
much further than the actual front line depicted in the game. Also, the FE map is very sparsely
populated around the Montdidier area where these combats actually took place. This means
that I've not been able to place the action as accurately on the map as I would've liked.
2. FE won't allow multiple 'named wingmen' in the players flight. This means the game will
recognise only the players plane. consequently, there will be no record of your wingmen's
actions in the 'stats' screen at end of mission. It also means you can't issue orders via the
'tab' button.
The good news is; this doesn't stop your wingmen from participating in the action, although
for this mission you won't want any help anyway!
3. In Fonck's second patrol, about 45 minutes passed between him shooting down the
two-seater and the dogfight with the flight of German fighters...Here, I've condensed the
action to save you flying around aimlessly for the best part of an hour.
4. Again, in the second patrol, Fonck was able to dive into the German fighter formation
undetected before causing havoc...As far as I can tell, the AI in First Eagles is 'all seeing'...
This makes it impossible (I think!) to sneak up on 'em! You'll just have to take your chances
mixing it with 'em I'm afraid!
============================================================
Mission requirements:
To fly this mission as intended, you'll need:
Flanders terrain.
By Edward.
To be found in the Combat Ace, Downloads, 'Maps/Terrains' section.
Rene Fonck SPAD XIII skin.
By HerGr.
To be found in the Combat Ace, Downloads, 'WW1 Aircraft Skins' section
Many thanks to all the above artists for their most excellent contributions to this great game.
For maximum realism, the mission should be played with all gameplay settings set to 'Hard'.
============================================================
Installation instructions:
Install the mission by unzipping the downloaded file to the following path:
C:/Program Files/Thirdwire/WW1/Missions
Alternatively, you can drag and drop the unzipped MSN file directly into your 'Missions' folder.
============================================================
I hope you enjoy flying this mission and find it both challenging and enjoyable enough to play
it more than once...I've tried to make it as historically accurate and authentic as the game
will allow.
Feel free to change any of the parameters as you wish.
I would welcome any suggestions or general feedback, good, bad or indifferent, via any one
of the FE forums.
Bon chance!
Bucky.

Thicker, Fuller Clouds for FE
By ShrikeHawk
Thicker, Fuller Clouds for FE
07/30/07 by ShrikeHawk
I felt that the default in FE looked too much like faded white blobs
and not nearly enough like clouds. So I set about to change it.
My intention here was to make more robust-looking clouds with a higher
density and a greater "presence". I also wanted to create the more
complex shapes that clouds can form. The kind that makes you lay in
the grass and imagine what animal shape the cloud is.
I increased the random factor for the clouds as well, so scattered
clouds can be almost as dense as the default broken clouds and then
again the clouds could be very sparse. So you never quite know what
you're going to get. I like that better.
I wanted to fix Inclement Clouds too. Realistic or not, I felt that it
was too featureless and too muddy gray. I thought the cloudlayerbottom
didn't match the stormy gray of the horizon clouds. So I created a new
CLOUDLAYERBOTTOM5.bmp that I think fits the look of a stormy sky better.
I have increased the particle count in the clouds a lot. This is a big
reason for the thicker clouds. In defense of TK, I think he had the
default clouds the way he did because it would keep the framerates high
for most machines. This is a guess. I have not seen a framerate hit on
my machine (2.80Ghz CPU, @750Mb RAM, GeForce 6800GT 256Mb VRAM), but it
is possible that some machines may get an FPS degrade with this mod.
Have fun!

Hans Udet Jasta 37 D.Va "5876 Woody"
By sinbad
Greetings:
This skin, depicts the camo and markings on a Albatros D.Va with a wood finish fuselage flown by Lt Hans Udet, of Jasta 37. Udet flew many aircraft, and this appears to be one of at least three D.Va types he used at Jasta 37. I relied most heavily on superb computer renderings by Mark Miller, as well as other information generally relevant to the aircraft
Of course, I began this project with the general release skins provided by TK and Third Wire. The result you see is entirely my own, and my time machine is no longer operational. This is an interpretation, a well-grounded interpretation, but certainly a mix of accuracy and flaws.
Have fun with it. I’d appreciate any comments, especially with links to source material. Although I included a serial number, the tail markings on the images available to me are not clear. Hence the “D. 5876/17” is speculative. Nevertheless, the number is in correct form, and yes, that is why the individual numbers do not accurately line up. This is consistent with the form of the numbers on the reconstructed D.Va in the Smithsonian. If you have more information regarding the SN, please pass it along. The Albatros rudder logo is correct, despite the fact that it does not appear in the Mark Miller rendering.
Just drop the folder in your AlbatrosD5a folder and select Hans Udet Woody in the loadout screen. There is another J 37 Hans Udet D.Va skin, depicting the black fuselage aircraft that was released shortly before this version. A third silver version may be released later.
There is no need to edit the AlbD5a ini.
Please no distribution or republication of any part of these files. There is a lot of unique detail that took a lot a time to research, compile and work into the skin. For that reason, these parts are not available for further use.

Vogesen Terrain version 1.0
By Gepard
VOGESEN TERRAIN Version 1.0
=====================
Vogesen terrain is made for TK's sim "First Eagles" only. I have never tested it with SFP1 sim family.
****************************************************
FIRST WORDS
The Vogesen, in french Vosges, are a mountain ridge along the former french german border. It devided the Elsass (Alsace) from Lothringen. The Elsass was german till 1648 , from 1648 to 1871 french and became german again in 1871. When the great war broke out french armies tried to attack from Fortress Belfort in direction of Mühlhausen (Muhlhouse), but had no real success. Also along the hills of the Vogesen mountains the war was hard and bitter. The german soldier fought here on german soil to defend the civilists in the Elsass lowlands, very often only some steps away from the last hills from where you have a beautifull look over the towns and villages.
Very hard were the fights around the hill Hartmannsweilerkopf (Hartmannswillerkopf).
I gave the towns and villages their old german names, to represent the time of the great war. This is not expression of desires of revanche which poissend the relations between germans and french since the french engagement during the 30 years war (1618 - 48). I'm glad that this bitter times are over and today germans and french call friends each other.
Vogesen Terrain is still work in progress. Only the southern part of the terrain is finished.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
WHATS NEW?
Version 1.0
1. Vogesen Terrain is now compatible with the Expansion Pack of First Eagles. You will enjoy now the terrain in all 4 seasons. You will face snow in the winter and green in the summer.
If you dont have the expansion pack you should open file vogesen.ini and exchange line
CatFile=..\wwiCambrai\wwiCambrai.cat
with
CatFile=..\wwiVerdun\wwiVerdun.cat
2. I improved the tiling of the terrain. The street network in the Elsass is now much more dense. The River Rhine is now not longer a fragment.
3. I added 2 new german airfields, 2 more Rhine bridges, 2 other bridges, a couple of Castles, 2 chateaus and additional observation ballons (hope i had forgotten nothing). Increased the number of target areas from 78 to 116.
4. I cutted the middle Rhine Valley into the mountains south of Koblenz. This beautifull valley, which is famous for its castles, is still only a fragment. But i enjoyed the fly through this valley very often. With a WWI plane its an relaxe flight. For a funny ride you should take a WWII bird. With full speed in a FW-190, a Spitfire or a Mustang hedgehopping there is a great experience.
*********************************************************
INSTALLATION
1.) unzip all files into your WWI/Terrain folder
(files will be placed in folders Vogesen AND wwiCambrai)
2.) the file "Burgen am Rhein.msn" put into your missions folder
Thats it.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
CREDITS
As usual i want to say thank you to all guys who helped me to create Vogesen terrain, to TK, ErikGen, and a lot of others,( sorry guys, at the moment i have forgotten the names. Please contact me if you want to be named at this place.) Thanks for files, suggestions, bug findings etc
**********************************************
DISCLAIMER
Vogesen terrain is freeware. You are free to modify and share it, BUT Commercial use is prohibited.

By gumpy
This is a skin of a Albatros DVa that was operational with Jasta 46.It was captured and put on display in Texas for a time it now can be seen at the Smithsonian.It is believed the Stropp Albatros DVa was the aircraft of Uffz Erich Gürgenz flying for JASTA 46 from 10/02/18 till 04/04/18 He achieved 1 victory on 12 march 1918 a SE5a.He was killed in action on 04/04/18 over Liéramont airfield.As far as I can ascertain these facts cannot be verified other sources say the pilot of Stropp Albatros DVa is unknown.For the skin I used the template and some parts from the skins from the expansion I hope TK and Thirdwire approve and I thank them.The other details I added with Photoshop.

No.209 Sqdn Camels 2 pack
By quack74
This is a pack of the No. 209 Squadron Sopwith Camels
of North France, 1918.
It contains the generic skin of No. 209 Sqdn Camels (red nosed)
And one skin of Capt. Roy Browns Camel B7270.
The 209 Sqdn skin is really just a guess. I havn't seen any other photos of 209 Camels. Only that of Capt. R Browns.
But they do look good anyway. And we can't let Roy fly alone now can we.
Anybody with info on these skins please feel free to let me know.
I'll be more than happy to edit these skins.
