Yesterday i ran windows update 2026-06 Security Update (KB5094126) (26200.8655)
Today Strike Fighters 2 wont run, either a mod folder or a unmolested SF2 folder wont run.
Run as Admin, Compatability up to Windows 7, Exclusion Folder, Ini Changes did not fix it.
You may get to the Menu and try to run a mission but the game will crash and close.

I was close to re-installing the game or atleast grabbing a new GroundObject.DLL but i saw Windows Smart App pop up for a milisecond.
Turn it off and viola. Game's working again.

Something about this new Windows Feature breaks the game.

IF your game is suddenly crashing with the same error Just turn off this Feature.

I got SF2 to run on Robolinux and Pop OS with a 1070 before with some graphical glitches. Im kinda itching to try it once again.

@saisran that sucks. Try installing the game outside of Program Files, Windows is more and more restrictive when executing applications installed in there. Hopefully that is enough of a workaround, otherwise we have a problem.

to be completely clear,

after the update one has to go into settings and turn off the Windows Smart App?

that very update is on hold on my system until Sunday morning......

Right now the game is crashing after running a long mission. Cant even complete a large modded campaign. Reinstalling Outside of the Program Folder right now.

Windows is just.... grrr!

Yeah. I was able to get the game to launch after turning off Windows Smart App. However, right now im having issue with my Combined mod game crashing running custom campaigns. Which is sad as this folder is decades old and i forgot how i got it to get to this state. Will try running my game installed and run outside of the core windows folders.

update wise; it ran fine for me after the updates. did my laptop first, and when that was fine did my desktop. no issues

as for the long missions, i wont say i have issues flying a mission all the way through. but i havent been able to run more than about two missions at a time since Win11 came out. even on Win10, one of the post 11 release updates made it likely for a round to crash after two to four missions (two if you go all the way take off to landing, closer to four if you ALt-N alot).

since i dont tend to binge play, its ok for me. run a couple, turn off, short break for whatever, restart. but that is just me

I have just installed Strike Fighters 2 (incl. 2013 patches) on Windows 11. It is located in the root directory and not under programs.

I tried some quick flights which worked without issues.

But shoud I expect stability issues? What are the general experiences with this game on Windows 11? Would be good to know before I get invested. Thanks!

interesting that you didnt put it in saved games like everyone else

other than that, should be able to run short or long missions. just dont expect to fly more than 3 maybe 4 everytime you fire the game up, or the game could very well shut down for you (CTD or full on BSOD). but if youre trying to binge a campaign or something, use the shutdown period as a brief break. stretch. do more if you like. do less if you like. fire upp and get back to it

that has been the only issue i've had thats Windows specific since Win 11 came out (Win 10 updates since then have caused the same by observation)

Thanks for your reply.

What I meant was that I didn't install the game itself in the programs folder. I still have a save game folder in my user directory.

I guess I will have to try it out if I encounter any CTDs. I am still in the experimental phase. So far everything works smooth and without any glitches (graphical or otherwise).
