mppd Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Just wanted to add my own two cents worth on this subject. I am a confirmed Vietnam-era aviation enthusiast and historian, not a real pilot, and Wings over Vietnam is really the perfect sim for me. Its modability is just outstanding, it's got a smooth flying flight model, super graphics, and runs great on a modest system like mine. I gladly purchased a copy of Yankee Air Pirates, as it seemed like a great idea that I certainly have not had the time to try to duplicate, working two jobs lately. Have not had the chance to install it yet, but if I saw the exact same thing in a boxed CD at Best Buy I'd have bought it in a heartbeat! Mike Druzolowski
rhugouvi Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Just a question: on the 100 missions, how many are recce ones?
+Prowler1111 Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 KC-135 (and perhaps other variants), work in progress: in AI format, this addon will be available ONLY with Yankee Air Pirate Best regards Prowler
Guest zerocinco Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 (edited) Roughly 5. I am going to have an All Flights Option where the player can fly every unique position in the same strike. That would include the post-strike BDA, thus, roughly... And, yes, your view ini is included whole as uploaded by you to combatace, your header, your email address, your instructions verbatim...with our modifications as a footnote. Most things, we just provide a link to. Yours was one we did not want them to overlook. If you have modified it or found a way around the system erasing it every time one goes to their joystick settings, we'd love to include that also. Honestly, recce missions are some of the most fun and dangerous...just like real life. *****UPDATE: I looked at a new way of doing this and have methods more to our liking. I have chosen to delete your version and replace it with ours. So rest assured, your "mod" is now free from any possible exposure to commercialism.***** Edited July 6, 2006 by zerocinco
DWCAce Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 (edited) I've been reading the posts on this topic, and I'm trying to figure out the details so I can arrive at a conclusion. If I understand correctly (please correct me if I'm wrong), but you are using the weapons pack that is available for download on various sites. Have you asked everyone who contributed to that pack if their work could be used (if their weapon/pod/tank, etc. were chosen)? For the pricing.... would you be able to list/describe the proprietery items that your team worked on for this package? Also, what kind of release/permission did you secure from Thirdwire (if neccessary)? Thanks ahead of time :) Edited July 6, 2006 by dwcace
Guest zerocinco Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 (edited) Inquiries about Yankee Air Pirate can be addressed to info@yankeeairpirate.net. If your purpose is to contact me, that would be the proper avenue. Since you chose a public forum to ask, I'll answer and in doing so, explain that since I no longer get the bump in website traffic from answering, I no longer will. -No permission is required to provide a link to the Weapons Pack. Very little of the Weapons Pack was used in Vietnam...our ONLY era. Even less is used in our specific missions. Almost every weapon is provided with WOV. I am not certain if ANY of the weapons in the Weapons Pack are needed by YAP...maybe one and I have permission for its use. Primarily our use of the Weaponsdata and Gundata are to assign values to artillery or special weapons. If someone wishes to withdraw their weapon from the Weapons Pack, I will replace it. -No. We are not selling objects. We are telling stories and these are necessary parts of those stories. -My communications with Mr. Kawahito are private. Edited July 6, 2006 by zerocinco
Murphy'S Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 CAS at the Treeline. Nice jungle.....can you post more screens, from any angle, to have a overall look? thanks by advance
eightlein Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 Nice jungle.....can you post more screens, from any angle, to have a overall look? thanks by advance Sorry Murph, thats a negative.
eradicator Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 Well, if I may play devil's advocate here, one-stop shopping has a lot of potential appeal to casual simmers. A lot of people would probably like to play 'WOV' in its full glory without having to customize it first using dozens of separate -- albeit free -- downloads. A number of modders have, apparently, given the 'yap' guys permission to use their work. ILL DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Murphy'S Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 (edited) Sorry Murph, thats a negative. Wow!!!! Why ? is top secret? still in beta testing?...........or did the autor want nobody to see it before having paid for it? Anyway if you want to to make people to buy it.......you must at least do some advertisement just my two cent Edited July 17, 2006 by Murphy'S
eightlein Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 Wow!!!! Why ? is top secret? still in beta testing?...........or did the autor want nobody to see it before having paid for it? Anyway if you want to to make people to buy it.......you must at least do some advertisement just my two cent Murph, I assume thats a polite suggestion. I appreciate it. However I am not the spokesperson for YAP. My capacity is a test person and trouble shooter. I'm sure that the CAG YAP can respond to your comment more appropriately than I. Your comment shall be directed to the proper authority.
Guest Diego Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 Sorry Murphy'S. When it's done testing we'll show more of everything. Stay tuned for advertising. We haven't started that yet - just teasing for now.
Guest zerocinco Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 Murph, Your advice is excellent and we will follow it. There were just a FEW things to iron out before release. And I will advertise and release it this week...again. When I do, I have to update everyone that already bought it. We needed to finish changing railroad track, locomotives, rail cars, buildings, and adding the rest of the Lilliputians. We needed to change some loadouts that we knew were coming up so we didn't have to update in a week or so. We added aircraft but they won't make the re-release...almost, but not quite. And, we have to figure out where best to spend ad money. There are lots of choices but there is one problem: This is an add-on to WOV only. This is a "mature" game and most copies have been tossed out. To play, you must be able to buy WOV. But the game will be gone by the Fall. So the dollars have to be spent intelligently or we will disappear right about the time WOV does. While I don't expect anyone on CA to pull out their credit card, you are missing what WOV could and, maybe, should have been. To each his own, but YAP is the air war in Southeast Asia with missions by the men who flew them against the targets they hit. We didn't chase MiG's. The reason we didn't shoot them down in Korean War ratios is because we had generally kicked their ass from the beginning. No MiGs; no aces. We bombed. You know how nicely detailed TK's tanks are? And you know you wouldn't see a tank tread at a 4500 foot release altitude...so who cares? Well, we do. Now that people have the option to look at the ground, we have given them something to look at. It will surprise players. It's a lot of fun and we hoped people would recognize that. Instead it has turned into a flame topic on a forum for modders. Good free advertising but not much fun. Freebies are going to go on, you know. It won't all turn into payware. We just have to buy things and that means we want to be paid for what we are doing. Others choose to donate their time. Some of that stuff is great. All of ours is. If you had a suggestion where you felt the most WOV players (not modders) congregated on the web, reveal it. We'll be there in a heartbeat.
Capt.Scarlet Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 I'll buy it , make pirate copies and sell it on e-bay for 10$ , how is that ?? You can't have rights on something you don't own ... Does Thirdwire owns the codes ??? Just an advise to modders who are giving 'permission' to use their files , get all in writing because some could take your author's rights away, stating they acquired your rights. I've seen it before and then it is a legal mess ... Not meaning it will happen here but just a precaution, i had FS95 and FS98 work stolen in the past and sold on the net in Europe, not fun at all when you spend so many hours of your time to create for the community and see some people wanting to cash in on your work. Thanks to Check-six for their MegaPack C6 that was made available for free to the community! Get it if you can, it worth it. http://www.checksix-fr.com/
Guest Diego Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 You have no clue what we own, now do you? Do you even read these forums or just look for the latest free download to add to your collection? Yes, C6 made a great pack. They should have gotten paid for it and anything else they decide to make because its worth it.
+Dave Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 Capt Scarlet These guys are crossing the T's and dotting the I's, so cut them a little slack eh?
Guest zerocinco Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 You do this: If you think something is being done illegally, get a lawyer. Maybe in Buttlick, KY you can find one who will go to court to fight some guys building a $20 add-on Empire for the narrowest niche in the gaming industry. There's a contengiency battle they will fight each other to get. If you cannot prove it, you get to meet mine. He works in Beverly Hills and deals with the movie industry where the theft of copyrights seems to be a regular cost of doing business. He can steal your copyright or defend it. All depends upon the client. And I will do this: If I see anything of mine being sold, I will come after the seller with no intention of winning...just getting my lawyer to drain their blood in one venue after another in every state or country where it was offered. I pay $200 to file. They pay $2000 to defend. And eBay will help me, not the them. Talk's cheap. Your move.
Murphy'S Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 Murph, I assume thats a polite suggestion. I appreciate it. However I am not the spokesperson for YAP.My capacity is a test person and trouble shooter. I'm sure that the CAG YAP can respond to your comment more appropriately than I. Your comment shall be directed to the proper authority. Yes totally.......sorry if it sounds a little agressive or impatient.............and if i directed my comment to you it's because you are the one who spaek the most
rhugouvi Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 Zerocinco, please, we don't give a d**n about how big your buddy lawyer is in Beverly Hills. You do yourself a disservice with your threats and "or else..." strategy . Had you explained what you REALLY intended to use the mods for and got the explicit permission from the original authors, you would have nothing to fear! So, tell us how breathtaking YAP is and flood us with dramatic in-game pix. Do a real communication job about YAP if you want us to buy a real copy of it.
+Dave Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 OK enough....once again he is not going to anyones mods without permission. So the subject is over. Next one to question it will go on vacation from here.
rookie Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 (edited) OK enough....once again he is not going to anyones mods without permission. So the subject is over. Next one to question it will go on vacation from here. I,ve read all 4 pages(also at SimHQ..) and must say these YAP guys don't sound like fans of WOV to me,nowhere i can taste any enthousiasm for the game by them, they think and even talk commercial(read arrogant..),THAT'S what disturbes me,not that it's payware, but i'd rather buy it from modders who made it out of love for the game..not just for the money! I think CombatAce(and SimHQ) should make a stand for those free modders, after all THEY got SFP1,WOV and WOE to where it is today! Maybe YAP should start their own forum where they can have heir selling talks and leave these to the enthousiasts.. And USAFMTL i remember your post over at SimHQ,where you questioned them the first, now you seem completely turned on this? Edited July 21, 2006 by rookie
Guest Diego Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 We ARE part of the THEY who got this series where it is today. You are?
+Dave Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 And USAFMTL i remember your post over at SimHQ,where you questioned them the first, now you seem completely turned on this? Yes my concern was if they were using mods without getting the authors permission. Now knowing who some of the team members are this is no longer an issue with me. And that was my only issue. So thus it ends here.
