195th_Sith Posted May 8, 2003 Posted May 8, 2003 Something I did while screwing around in photoshop.... I got the idea from the IL2 and FB forums on SimHQ. There are some really cool "photos" if you know where to look. If props are your thing, take a peek at this! http://www.froggy.com.au/tomharradine/il2/ More to come! S! Quote
195th_Sith Posted May 8, 2003 Author Posted May 8, 2003 Somewhere near Hanoi..... So they decide to come up for the fight! We'll show 'em. SPLASH MY BANDIT!!! I love saying that.... S! Quote

195th_Sith Posted May 8, 2003 Author Posted May 8, 2003 A Navy F-4B from VF-111, fires an AIM-9B sidewinder missile somewhere off the coast of North Vietnam. Photo taken July 7, 1968. Another F-4B from VF-111, Air Wing Ten, crosses the fantail of USS Intrepid recovering from a strike on suspected truck parks. A Navy A-1 Skyraider over southern Laos begins it's roll into target, in support of SAR operations to recover a downed F-4 pilot and WSO. A-1 Skyraider on egress from CAS mission north of Chu-Lai Army base, 1969. All in good fun. You all can tell how bored I am. LOL Just cant wait for service pack 2! Quote
195th_Sith Posted May 8, 2003 Author Posted May 8, 2003 Thanks! It was clearly not my original idea, it's just that the planes in Strike Fighters look so damn good in black and white. :D If anyone has any screens they would like for me to "edit" for any purpose, or has any others they have edited, please post them here or send them to me! I'd like to do some "authentic feel" desktops but I cant figure out how to get rid of the speed bar text at the bottom left on the original screen shots. I would just up the resolution, but I am limited by this monitor to 1024X768, which is what I normally use in windows. Please send me screenshots from high end systems so they can look REALLY great! email me @sithmaster169@yahoo.com ICQ - 120399956 S! Quote
195th_Sith Posted May 8, 2003 Author Posted May 8, 2003  MORE! MORE! MORE! North American F-100D Super Saber of the 416thTFS/37th TFW at Phu Cat airbase, Republic of Vietnam. Taken shortly before supporting troops in the La Trang valley, this F-100D was lost to AAA fire. The pilot ejected and was later rescued by SAR patrols. F-100D pilot runs through his takeoff checklist. Super Sabers based at Tan Son Nhut airbase in 1965, did not recieve their tactical camouflage until losses to anti-aircraft fire sent all aircraft scurrying to the paint shops. S! Quote
195th_Sith Posted May 9, 2003 Author Posted May 9, 2003 An F-105D Thunderchief (Thud) drops Mk82 500lb bombs on a target near Hanoi during the early stages of Operation Rolling Thunder in 1965. F-105s suffered heavy losses to AAA and SAM activity during the operation. With tremendous payload capabilities, Thuds were numerically the most important USAF aircraft during the first 3 years of the conflict. I do get carried away, don't I. =) S! Quote
+Deuces Posted May 9, 2003 Posted May 9, 2003 Nice pics Sith! Here's a mini of what graces my desktop Quote
195th_Sith Posted May 9, 2003 Author Posted May 9, 2003 Thanks Dueces!! You did the euro terrain correct? Bang up job on that one! Although when I try to fly the A-1 or F-105 in the euro terrain, I CTD. Any ideas? Just as an experiment I edited that one you posted also. Gotta love texture graining and layer blending! hehehe S! Quote
+Deuces Posted May 9, 2003 Posted May 9, 2003 Very nice :D The ctd thing with the addon planes is odd. I've flown both without an issue. Are you having the problem in campaign or single mission mode? I'll have a look at what I may have done different when I get home. Quote
+Armourdave Posted May 9, 2003 Posted May 9, 2003 Simply superb! You just inspired me to spend a good portion of my weekend working on my Thud v2.0! Aghhh ;) Cheers :) Quote
195th_Sith Posted May 9, 2003 Author Posted May 9, 2003 Thank you guys for the nice compliments. Deuces, its in single mission that it CTDs on me. Hmmm, I remembered I had not reinstalled the terrain mod since I installed the patch. Maybe thats it. Will try. Armourdave, version 2.0? What are you changing? The thud is a wonderful aircraft to fly in SF and is probably one of my very favorites. All aircraft I have downloaded and added to the game have been good though. I love that aspet of this game. I will post more pics of some of the other jets in the sim as I get time to do it... It's time for work once again. S! all! Quote

I dont want to move away from the topic of this thread too much so I'll keep it short :) : # Rebuilt the nose from scratch with the intention of fixing the slightly too tall canopy frame. # Rebuild the gear doors. # Fix other problems in the mesh. # Completely re-build all animations from scratch. # Completely re-map it from scratch to allow far more detail (Volks will paint the first template) # Retexture areas of the cockpit, mainly the canopy rail. # Add cockpit reflections # Build a shadow Thud V2.0 will be released with Klaatu's highly-improved flight model. Sorry, I tried to keep it short :) Thanks for the compliments :) Cheers Quote
195th_Sith Posted May 9, 2003 Author Posted May 9, 2003 I always welcome updates on projects! I'm glad you posted it here. Sounds like its gonna be Sierra Hotel! Cant wait for that. Of all the shots I did in this thread, the Thud and the cockpit shot of the Mig-21 have to be my favorites. Hell I may send that pic of the Thud off to Yahoo and have them make a print for me! hahaha S! Will have more pics up tonight I am sure. Quote

Yeah when I get home from work tonight, I will download the terrain again and install it... I have the palm trees installed on that one, and I'd like to get some money shots of the Thud at low level dropping napalm. The A-7, A-6 and F-5 should also look nice for such a shot. BTW, what terrain is that in the Huns picture? And what did you use o get the cloud effect? S! Quote
+Deuces Posted May 9, 2003 Posted May 9, 2003 The terrain is part of the "Operation Tainted Cigar" project, Cuba. The clouds you can do in Photoshop. Give yourself a new layer, draw a white rectangleover the entire image (I used white in this case). Select that layer and choose, Filter,Render, Difference Clouds. Set your layer mode to Screen. then I just select the eraser and remove all but the clouds I want to have. Quote
+Dave Posted May 10, 2003 Posted May 10, 2003 Ok here is my contribution: VF-111 on escort duty Route Pack 3. In a tangle with a MIG-19 Phantoms on the Prowl Returining home on another uneventful mission. Quote
195th_Sith Posted May 10, 2003 Author Posted May 10, 2003 Hey no fair! I cant take pictures of the Crusader because I dont have it yet! You cheated! LOL Nice shots USAFMTL and CowboyTodd! I have a few more... F-104 Starfighter flight patrols at high altitude. Photo taken by the flight leader. An A-4B from VMFA-531 Grey Ghosts prepares for takeoff on another CAS mission to support US troops. VMFA-531 flight leader, a few miles from roll-in. The tension sets. Hey Armourdave! Email me some shots of the A-7. =) Also, whoever was working on the A-6 Intruder, send me some shots of that too! hehe S! Quote
195th_Sith Posted May 13, 2003 Author Posted May 13, 2003 Whatever you did on that first one, it looks AWESOME! Raised contrast a little? Love the Superfort! I have three 4 hour long VHS tapes my grandfather made me a few years ago, and they are the complete story of forming and operating the 20th Airforce out of india, china and finally the Marianas island chain in the pacific. They are a treasure I wish i could share with the community here. If anyone decides to try and find them, they are called "Wings of Victory: 20th Airforce". S! Quote
