+FastCargo Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 A faster A-7 would just be a bomber F-8! Er...no. The A-7 could carry a LOT more A/G ordinance than a F-8. A F-8 only had 2 wing hardpoints...an A-7 has 6! Of course, I could be wrong...anyone with better info? FastCargo
+suhsjake Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 It be a Quick Little Ugly Feller. Probably be nearly 50% faster with larger wings for fuel and one more set of hard points on the wing. Thats my guess.
Shin_kazama Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 PoAF A-7P and TA-7P Corsairs (This one is the "White Dove"....still in USN painting and markings overall) How could i possibly miss this topic?!? I just luv the SLUFF!!! Workhorse of the PoAF for almost 20yr.... SLUFF RULES!!! what jammer pod is that on the left wing station of the 3rd photo?
+suhsjake Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 I believe and AN/ALQ-99 Tactical Jamming System http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/equip/an-alq-99.htm
RunsWithScissors Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 (edited) YEP! That's where it was. Just dug up my copy of Jane's 78-79. If my scanner wasn't being a typical HP product (driver issues?), I'd post it. I'll see what I can do. I think the one w/2 f404s looked better, really. Definitely chunkier, but better... Ha! Found one! Edited October 4, 2007 by RunsWithScissors
RunsWithScissors Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Found this, too. From the top, it looks kinda wierd...
+suhsjake Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 WOW, they made it even more uglier than before.
RunsWithScissors Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Also came across this: the F100-PW-220 version
Rambler 1-1 Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Er...no. The A-7 could carry a LOT more A/G ordinance than a F-8. A F-8 only had 2 wing hardpoints...an A-7 has 6! Of course, I could be wrong...anyone with better info? FastCargo yeah, yeah, I knew about the hardpoint thing. I was reffering to looks and performance more than tactical capability. And if you really want to get technical, the A-7 doesn't have the variable angle wing. bloody technicalities.
Blade Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 I believe and AN/ALQ-99 Tactical Jamming System http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/equip/an-alq-99.htm The AN/ALQ-99 is the one used on the Prowlers. The one in the pic above IMHO is an AN/ALQ-131 Self Protection Jammer Pod. http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/equip/an-alq-131.htm
Piloto Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 (edited) what jammer pod is that on the left wing station of the 3rd photo? Its an AN/ALQ-131 jammer. Its not a 99 version. We used a couple of these in Azores islands air bases and inland for Interception roles. Edited October 4, 2007 by Piloto
+76.IAP-Blackbird Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 The twin engine version is a damn good lookin one! We need it!!! For sure! Mirage Factory!!!!!!! :moil:
+Gocad Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 The twin engine version is a damn good lookin one! We need it!!! For sure! Mirage Factory!!!!!!! :moil: I'd rather have the A-7F (that's the designation for the F100 version) instead of this weird-looking twin engine version....
RunsWithScissors Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 (edited) Found these of the "F" for all you modelers And I happen to like the twin. At least the "thicker" one in the painting. The (sort-of) 3 view is too...um...coke-bottle Edited October 4, 2007 by RunsWithScissors
Piloto Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 (edited) Typicall PoAF A-7P Loadout: M117 GP 750lbs Bombs on MER (Multiple Ejection Rack) Weapons capacity Training Load He´s coming for you... Edited October 4, 2007 by Piloto
+Gocad Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 (edited) It be a Quick Little Ugly Feller. I'd prefer FLUF. scnr Edited October 4, 2007 by Gocad
Chaser617 Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 I'm guessing I'm going to have to ask and bribe Sundowner to redo his FAA skins for the new SLUF.
+Gocad Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 SLUF with a burner looks odd. Perhaps, but the extra speed is nice. You can really feel the difference during take-off. The A-7 basically leaped off the runway...
+Spectre_USA Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 I dunno, I think it looks more correct. Never really felt it shouldn't have an after=burner.
Shin_kazama Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 Its an AN/ALQ-131 jammer. Its not a 99 version. We used a couple of these in Azores islands air bases and inland for Interception roles. ah, like those placed on the F-16's.
