Whiteknight,

You have anymore pictures of the Connecticut ANG bird? Could use some more to make a skin (always liked the Sliver F-100's over the SEA F-100's).

The Conn ANG flew F-100As in the intercept mission with AIM-9Bs until late 1965 conversion to deuces. In the spring of 1972 the 102s went to the boneyard and the unit picked up camouflaged F-100Ds from the TAC units at Luke and Cannon that were phasing the Hun out. (The Mass ANG at Barnes picked up 100s from the 35th TFW at Phan Rang, you could see the recently painted over "V_" tailcodes). Otis picked up 100Ds also for a few months before getting 106s in June 1972.

The F-100A on display at the Air Museum I believe sat as a wreck on the grass at the base for years, and was restored by the Conn ANG guys. I have slides of it sitting in the sun in front of their maint hangar before it went to the museum I believe in 1979 - right when the 103rd received the ANG's first A-10s.

Let me scan it and I'll post it here.

The ROCAF received A model's that were brought up to D standards, ie D tail, engines. MJ and I made mod of the D, to A standards, that was brought to D specs. We removed the refuel probe and did other ini tweaks. So its an A model.

I would give an R&R in Bangkok for the smell of a C model.

No offence but You cant be serious, because A + C's Have a completly different wing design than the D model, they dont have flaps and therefore is the trailling egde of the wing straight like an ruler, thats the reason I called it a D. But I like the mod you did anyway.

And I dont want to ruin the party with silver/ natural metal ANG birds, but most were in SEA camo, if we are talking about the D model, nearly all colourfull ANG Units flying F-100's were A or C models. Did any of you guys know thats the C is the fastest of the lot??

But the D could be used as a stand in for those birds. I would like that :ok:

1975:Hard Light Burners

I was holding short about 2000 ft up from take off end of runway at a 45 degree angle towards runway heading in a twin Cessna at Joe Foss Field,South Dakota. I was waiting for 2 Air Guard Huns to take off. They lit burners right about the time they got next to me. (As I was not paying much attention)I jumped so high I hit my head on the overhead of the airplane. I thought my airplane exploded. When I looked up the pilots were looking right at me. There are a couple of Air Guard "Sticks" that are probably still laughing.

:blink::shout::haha:

I fly the 'Hun' all the time in WOE. It's a great bird!!!

Dave, in the F-100 skins you made that included Massachusetts, were both 102nd or 104th Wings included?

Yes I do. But I am not authorized to release them. I will have to ask the guy who did them.

Pretty sure the Mass ANG at Otis never marked their birds. I have one 8x10 glossy and its camoed with a serial number only. They probably found out the Huns wre going in a few months with the transition to the intercept mission and never marked up the birds with even a state name. I have serial numbers for all of them at Otis though from microfilm records from Maxwell I bought years ago.

Well I can not find any more pics of DCANG F-100Cs (in color). A few F-105 pics, some F-4D pics, and just recently a lot of F-16 pics. I'm not to sure of which colors they used for striping. I know the F-4s used red tail stripes and stars (just like the DC flag) and the F-16s mainly cobalt blue or gray around the intake and on the tail. For a brief period on the F-16s had the Capitol building painted on it outlined in red.

The DCANG was deployed to Vietnam briefly in 1968, but can't seem to dig up any photos.

Another Zero Launch Fighter Project with the F-100 most likely. Strap a giant rocket engine, put in on a truck cat, and put it into orbit like the space shuttle.

Download my ANG skins I did all those I think.

on that F-105D, what is on the center line pylon?

It might be the travel pod. T-38s used something similar. Cockpits are small (only room for a dop kit) and if you need to give a briefing, it is how you carry your dress blues and briefing material.
