CPG Poll 2: Aircraft

Recommended Posts

I'd like a good Viggen or Draken as well, but realistically I don't think it would generate enough sales. As one plane out of many in a survey sim, yes, but not as THE focus. Ditto the CF-105.

I mean, a LOT of sales in Canada is still relative...they only have 10% of the US' population, so a LOT there is still 10% of a LOT here. Selling 100k games there is like selling a million here.

OK guys I am compiling the results now. Couple of mintues and I will post them. I have eliminated all aircraft that don't meet the criteria (entered service after 1980) and weighted the responses. Your #1 choice got 3 votes, your #2 got 2 votes, and your 3rd place choice got 1 vote.

Here we go. And the winnar iz....

No surprise, the Phantom came out on top, with the movie star Tomcat close behind. The MiG-21 is the higest ranked opposition plane, though it lags behind the top two vote getters.

Some interesting this about the results in my opinion:

1. The A-10 did not get a single vote.

2. We had some votes for unarmed recon planes and strategic bombers.

3. The F-111 was a surprise vote getter

Would say

Some variants of

F-4

F-14

and on the opposite the

Mig-21

Mig25 or 23

We need something that matches the ability of one of the american birds

like Tomcat vs Foxbat and Phantom vs Fishbed

I love the A-10 - hence my screen name: (war)thog.

However, LOMAC seems to do a decent job with the plane. There have also been hints of a DCS treatment of the aircraft, and if I just want to fire off a half dozen mavericks in fifteen seconds, there is always WOE.

I wonder if such logic was behind anyone else's omission of the hawg?

for 60's:

Mig-21

F-104

F-5

Phanton is phunny, but sparrows set it in a different league (At least without realistic avionics and weapon reliability - then it is 25tons of unreliable electronics).

for 70's-80's a serious mud moving sim (f-111, Su-24, Bucanner)

The most important thing for me is that the modelled aircraft is useful for a variety of scenario's (mission type, theatre). If we're going to see 2 aircraft on opposing sides, they should be roughly comparable with regard to mission type and performance (especially where multiplayer is concerned).

1) F-4 Phantom

2) Tornado

3) MiG-23

F-4 is on top of my list, because it opens a wide variety of scenarios: A2A, A2G, carrier ops, Vietnam to present, used in many airforces
