EricJ Posted February 5, 2009 Author Posted February 5, 2009 Starting to get the ATFLIR textured. Quote
Vampyre Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Anyone know if there is a pilot figure out there with JHMCS. The Supers look weird without that little detail. Quote
EricJ Posted February 5, 2009 Author Posted February 5, 2009 As far as I know, no there is not. Would be nice of course Quote
EricJ Posted February 5, 2009 Author Posted February 5, 2009 Update to the F model, JAT81500 did VFA-103 "Jolly Rogers". Quote
FastCargo Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Nice.... For those wondering why the shadow looks like a bunch of loose parts, it's because the fuselage won't shadow. Something in the TW code doesn't shadow if the mesh exceeds a certain amount of 'concave' type surfaces. In other words, the more dents 'into' the mesh, the less chance it will shadow properly. It doesn't matter if the mesh is 'open' or not...I tried with a totally closed fuselage mesh and it still didn't shadow. And the closed mesh itself caused problems, mainly LOTS of decal bleed. I had to open the mesh to eliminate most of the bleeding. We could try running with the decal version of the mesh, but a lot of computers would choke on the model because it's already poly heavy. I haven't tried it yet, but I think if you up the shadow options in your TW install to unlimited (or high), it will then shadow properly. I'm still exploring what I can do...either build a SHD file or put in 'parts' inside the fuselage mesh to create shadows. Neither is appealing. Finally, next weekend, I'm going to work to put the model on a diet and come out with a lower poly model for those with older computers and for multi-LOD purposes. FC Quote
EricJ Posted February 5, 2009 Author Posted February 5, 2009 True enough but I really don't look at the shadows, and .shd files create their own issues, like a line that extends from the aircraft to the shadow on the ground, so honestly I don't even pay attention to the ground shadow half the time. If it becomes too much of a consternation, it's a bug in the README. But the multi-lod is a grea idea.... I'm having no issues personally but yeah it would be nice Quote
+76.IAP-Blackbird Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 What does this VAQ stands for? Quote
gbnavy61 Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 V = Fixed Wing. AQ = Electronic Attack. Navy stuff. Electronic Attack Squadron 140. Used to be Prowlers (EA-6B). Quote
zmatt Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 How do they get V from fixed wing? I never understood the logic behind Navy Acronyms. Quote
Caesar Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 (edited) From what I understand it's "heaVier than air," so VF is Heavier than air Fighter, VA is Heavier than air Attack, etc. Gotta recall that NAVAIR included/s baloons. I could be wrong. EDIT: also, V, as GBNavy said, is Fixed Wing; helos start with H, so HS, etc. Edited February 5, 2009 by Caesar Quote
zmatt Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 But they haven't had airships since the 30's. Why keep the same naming scheme? Quote
FastCargo Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Because it's the Navy! Got a problem with that? Actually, I had always wondered that myself... FC Quote
+russouk2004 Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 (edited) FC...try adding a dummycomponent...transparent "Plane" ...set via material editor...shape it roughly to fuselage...from top view....at least you get a large portion of the shadow gaps filled I assume the fuselage texture is double sided in mat ed? +Dave Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 But they haven't had airships since the 30's. Why keep the same naming scheme? Tradition my friend, tradition. if it isn't broken, why fix it. Quote
+GrinchWSLG Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 They need the V for when they make the Variable Fighters of course. http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=17717 Quote
+76.IAP-Blackbird Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 @russo this effect appears on some other aircraft, couldn`t find a solution yet, I thought it`s my gfx. Quote
EricJ Posted February 5, 2009 Author Posted February 5, 2009 They need the V for when they make the Variable Fighters of course. http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=17717 Too bad it hasn't gotten off the ground though... JAT81500 tweaked the lights, now I can start painting them, working on the F cockpit a bit. Like to add that I've added Vampyre to the team... he's more the expert than probably all of us, so I figured his opinion or insight would be helpful. Quote
gbnavy61 Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Tradition my friend, tradition. Indeed. Navy still says CAG (Commander Air Group), when the term Carrier Air Group has been gone a while (now called Carrier Air Wings - CVWs). And the FRS (Fleet Replacement Squadron - where you learn on your fleet aircraft) is still most commonly referred to as "the RAG" (again the old-school terminology, Replacement Air Group). Quote
EricJ Posted February 6, 2009 Author Posted February 6, 2009 Started a little on the G, removed the gun texture, working on AN/ALQ-99 details, and got the LERX formation lights finally textured spots. Both the F and E also have the light positions correct, JAT81500 got the other ones on the tail. Quote
EricJ Posted February 6, 2009 Author Posted February 6, 2009 And if you apply full burner... you can get out of those cutsie Harrier spots. Would show landing but... I had eight Migs enroute, and my CAP had no weapons... so once I get around to it again, I'll show it off. Though of course load will affect it, but this is my first time on the DS map I was able to take off from one of these. Quote
EricJ Posted February 6, 2009 Author Posted February 6, 2009 Started designing loadouts for necessity. CAP and Escort and Strike configs, done up currently with one tank on the center and one on the right side. I know JAT81500 you're working on or going to, but I had to do it out of necessity on a strike mission I had to abort in DS, as the MIGs were coming out of the woodwork! I only had four Es, my two AMRAAMs, and two 'winders, and the Es didn't have no weapons, had to get them armed.... Quote
zmatt Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Looks like its really coming together. This is going to be a great addon! Quote
