Olham 164 Posted January 15, 2011 Some missions are different and special - like my last sortie with Jasta 19. Our airfield defense was without any enemy contact, and we had already returned to St.-Remy-le-Petit, when I sighted the 4 R.E.8 crossing over our field higher. Since my wingmen had already left me for their usual landing proceedure, I followed the R.E.8 alone SW to the Argonne, and shot two of them down. After that, I returned to my field. I could hardly wait to see, if the wings had managed to do the landing okay. Approaching our field, I saw two columns of smoke. Then I spotted one Albatros on a meadow, near our runway. Lt. von Kaisenberg - his D.V was shot up; the right wingtip were missing. I first thought, it was a landing accident, until I saw the Nieuport turning in to attack me! My craft got hit, but he also had to take some of my rounds. I had to put my Albatros down hard and broke the landing gear, while the Frenchman prefered to run for home. Olham 164 Posted January 15, 2011 (edited) OBD / "OFF" made my day today - my second sortie, this time with my Jasta 2 pilot, was a great late morning joyride. Leutnant Max Ritter von Müller led the flight, and the darker brown craft in the center of the bunch is that of a promising young pilot, Rittmeister Manfred von Richthofen. First we clashed with some silvergrey Nupes, which we literally wiped out. It was pretty dangerous to fly within such a furball, and after getting one Frenchman down, I prefered to climb out of it. Later, when everybody had left me to make their landing approach and I had just touched down, I saw Flak in the northwest of our field. I started my engine again and somehow managed to get the Albatros turned round (I was close to my tent already, and had to maneuver carefully). I found a flight of 5 green Nieuport with a capital "A" on their backs, running north-west towards Bertangles airfield. The rearmost guy suddenly turned and took on a fight he couldn't win. No one else helped him, and I felt almost sorry for him. With his Le Prieur rockets, he didn't have the full agility, and I had very much of it, cause my tank was less than half filled. No wonder I shot him down after a short turn fight. When I made my second landing, I saw one of our craft lying wrecked before the runway. This was a very similar ending as my previous sortie, and I feel so happy with OFF's offers of today! Great job, OBD! After a previous fight I had not one shot left - all I got when I pulled the trigger, was that destinctive "Clinck!" Olham 164 Posted January 24, 2011 Beside my 1916 pilot, I have now started another one with Jasta 5, and his first sortie introduced him to hell below heaven - RFC-40 attacked his field with no less but 15 S.E.5a ! Leutnant Wolfram Olhoff could force Ian P R Napier to land at Awoingt. Short after this, he shot down another Tommy over the same field. (OFF skies are the most lifelike virtual skies I've ever flown in)! Unfortunately no aces in 2nd Flight I'm being assigned to... I hope in Phase 4 individual skins for non "known ace" pilots will be possible... Later on I had an almost haunting experience flying over no man's land with full scale battle going on underneath! +elephant 36 Posted January 25, 2011 (edited) Thanks carrick58 These days I play everything on the quad core gaming laptop I could afford and bought last year, (I usually travel a lot for my job)... I'm afraid I don't know any other specifications, only it has an NVidia GFX 260 graphics card on and can run both OFF and RoF pretty maxed out! PS Here is another, formation flying, one sporting the Sop. 1/2 Strutter. I started an RNAS 3 1916 Campaign for a change and I like this little plane very much! In my very first mission I got 3 Alb. D.II, the last one just by positioning myself right for my observer to finish him off, as I have expended my ammo on the other two! (Poor Alby!!! ) Unfortunately I had been lost in the clouds and was alone...no witnesses. I submitted the claims anyway, even if they are going to be rejected...It was great fun! Olham 164 Posted January 26, 2011 (edited) 4 SPAD VII flying low over our area became easy prey for Jasta 19 today. Ten minutes into the patrol, we saw them crossing our flight path from east to west, much lower. It is quite rare to catch SPADs low, and so we jumped at them like hawks. They were about to attack Udet's Jasta 15 airfield at La Selve, and they were so concentrated, that they didn't notice us, until we fired right into them from close range. It was almost too easy. Olham 164 Posted February 17, 2011 (edited) Damn, TaillyHo - it always hurts to see the Albatros falling. But I've done the same on my side of the line today. A Good Morning's Work In a nasty weather we took off with 5 Albatros D.II at 09:12 h from Lagnicourt for a balloon busting mission. We were heading SW to the lines east of Albert. Soon we noticed Flak ahead, right on our flight path. After ten minutes, we caught up with 4 British B.E.2c without any escorting scouts. We made a quick job of them; they all went down. Over our lines east of Albert, we headed south, towards the enemy airfield at Chipilly. The spotter stood right south of it. We arrived there hidden by veils of mist, from which I began my dive on the balloon. My approach went perfectly well; the balloon burst into flames and fell to earth. On our way home, I spotted bright specs low above the mud, moving west. 3 Nieuport 11! We went closer and jumped them with great advantage. All three of them went down, with- out any losses.
