+Erik Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 During the night we had a new user decide to use our PM system to ultimately PM about 2,000 users on our system. If you received this PM titled "Hello" with a link inside. Please delete this PM and don't click the link inside which solicits needing help. I personally have not received this PM so I'm unsure about the link but I can only suspect that it's at best suspicious if not malware driven. Again, please just delete this PM. Thank you and sorry for the confusion and inconvenience. Erik

+Erik Posted April 9, 2009 Author Posted April 9, 2009 The guys who wrote our forum software, IPS, have released a patch today to fix the PM system which will prevent the abuse we saw this morning with the SPAM. I will get the new patch in place tonight and all should be back to normal. Sorry for the SPAM. Erik

Pratch Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 It's in the news section. It appears someone or something (I presume a spambot) registered with CA a day or so ago and then proceeded to spam around 2000 users with this message. Suffice to say this user has now been banned. According to the news thread, the forums have now been patched so that it won't happen again.
ONETINSOLDIER Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 I see nothing of the sort in the news section,
+Dave Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 if you look at the very top of the forum you will see the new post title. http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=39550
+Erik Posted April 9, 2009 Author Posted April 9, 2009 Yeah this guy caused some problems. I'm sorry about the SPAM through the personal message (PM) system. I updated our software last night so this kind of thing can't happen again. So you know someone signed up manually going through the process of entering an email address and IP address. Then used an automated system to SPAM our members on-site using the PM system. The absurdity of some people is beyond me. Please ignore and don't open any link contained in the PM you received from "mignulikz". I would advise simply deleting the PM from your inbox. I've spent two hours this morning removing us from SPAM clearing houses. Thanks again for the report. Erik

andyace Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 HI, just returned from easter break and had the spam message will now delete and run my protection program just in case. Thanks for the warning.Andyace
ONETINSOLDIER Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 I guess since its still here, this bump wont matter, but I was just wondering why clutter like this wasnt round-filed when you installed the new software? I thought this had just happened and I was thinkin to myself,"Damn, I never get any spam like the rest of the guys."
