Born and bred on wwii flight sims. Cant say i've ever flown a bi-plane in (virtual) combat. I'm one of many who are awaiting olegs new instalment, storms of war. However, a squadie of mine (in another sim, wwiiol) mentioned over Flanders Fields or (OFF) as i've come to know it. I gotta say that the videos and screenies of this game are really, truely unbelieveable. No serriously. I had a hard time beleiving that they were actual in game shots.

Then i started going over the FAQ and features of the game. WOW! I mean if this stuff actually plays like the advertisement suggests i might have found a new home. We shall see. :dntknw: Ordered my copy a couple days ago and am waiting with much anticipation. Just upgraded my computer so that my ati4870 is my bottleneck now. Really looking forward to puting those wwi crate through their paces and seeing just how well some 1940 pilot experience will translate into biplane action.

One big question i had that seemed to be overlooked slightly is the multiplayer. Any of ya'll fly coop missions? Seems like a flight of 4 sopwiths against the flying circus would be a blast. Anyway. Just thought i'd introduce myself as "the new guy". Once my copy arrives im sure ill be here every day askin all kinds of n00bish questions.

S! gents

Welcome Macklroy,

Yes, there comes a time when ME109's, Spitfire's and P-51's just don't cut it! (too many for too long)

Yes, I fly multiplayer, and there are some good missions available for download.

All I will say about this experience you are about to enter is..... best say goodbye to your past life / Wife / Friends........

Welcome!

Everything they say in the ads is true, and then some. This is the best flight sim ever. You're in for a treat (and say goodbye to your free time!)

Okay then - once again: welcome in your new home, flyboy!

I have flown and liked IL2 - 1946 extensively. But only now I know, how much flying a crate requires.

Give her more rudder!

I think that I safely say, OBD can not be held responsable. For you spending your Rent money, or your mortgage Payment on a new mobo, or a larger LCD

Would say that now is the Best time to read the STICKY OFF Tips & Cheats, so you can hit the ground running.

Because once you get your sweaty paws on BHaH, it's understood that you ain't gonna read a damn thing

Couldn't put it any better than that! :good:

Really looking forward to puting those wwi crate through their paces and seeing just how well some 1940 pilot experience will translate into biplane action.

You'll be amazed at how well they don't fly. You'll be stunned to discover that in combat, your plane wants to kill you first [assuming that it has not done so on take-off. You'll be asked to do the near impossible with planes that are sluggish, under-powered, unresponsive to the controls, and posses the most vicious flying characteristics imaginable. I think I can say [since I came from a similar background as yours] that your WWII experience will get you killed repeatedly.

So...is this game fun? OH YES. I've had my disc for about a month, and I find that I've developed a completely new hand on the stick. Planes that wallowed like pigs and stalled perpetually now go where I point them. [beware the DH-2 and the Fokker E.III]. It was a great game right out of the box, but install the patch as soon as you can. If nothing else, it sharpens the effect of your guns. [Forgiving planes to start with: SE-5's and Fokker D.VII's]

This game will change your life. Now as I enter a room, I find myself calculating a lead on the cat. [who's been doing the same to me for years.]

Can we use that line in our advertising campaign?

Welcome to the Off flock Macklroy. You are in for a wonderful time. Be prepared for a steep learning curve and a lot of reward. For many of us OFF BH&H is a great flight sim and at the same time a realtime role playing game. It will help you to study all information you can on this forum and at the homepage faqs. It would help also be a good suggestion, IMHO, to get ahold of some good WWI reading either books or websources. If you were to read our sticky "letters from over the front" and real accounts form the period you would be hard pressed to tell them apart. I can also suggest working your way to flying DiD. Although this is a game ther is no quicksave feature and as much as you will want to rack up a high score you will find that not so important if you are dead. I know you have been reading the posts already and I wish you and all new recruits a wonderful time Over Flander's Feilds.
