sweeper 0 Posted June 5, 2009 Having been a Red Barron fan for years and finally coming across a WWI sim that seems to be as good if not better than RB, I ordered OFF yesterday thinking I already have CFS3 so everything should be rosy. I forgot that I had CTD issues with CFS3 that are still there. I have tried changing the compatibility mode to XP and also run it as Administrator and nothing helps. I can play CFS3 for 1 minute up to 10 minutes before it tells me" CFS3 has quit working and it shuts down.I have Vista, so I think it may be a compatibility issue with Vista, does anyone have the solution to my problem? Thanks for any help.

You didnt indicate your machine specs, but when it comes to slider settings, i would go with low settings first, and see if it helps the problem, and if so, then gradually move them up. would also consider finding the section on capping your fram rate, and also doing that. hope some of this helps

Really sorry to hear you are having problems. Very few people have the type of problem you are describing so it sounds like you may have a bad CD? CD's can go bad over time especially if left in bright light or exposed to warm climates. Incidentally, CFS3 has been available in many of the bargin bins recently for very little money, but you might want to buy the DVD version as it doesn't require you to have the disk in the drawer when you play OFF. Welcome to the forum and please let us know what happens.. lots of good folks here who will go out of their way to try to help you.
sweeper 0 Posted June 6, 2009 Thanks for all your help, I am tinkering with the settings and I have been able to get it to play for 15 minutes before it crashed. I will get this working as I want to fly OFF. OFF sounds like a great game, can hardly wait to get up and running. Again, thanks for your help.
+Polovski 460 Posted June 6, 2009 Try upgrading sound card driver (do NOT pay anyone for a driver by the way seems to be some scam sites out there). Check your video card isn't overheating. If it's not a reasonable ATI or Nvidia then it's likely that Intel ... which is poor for CFS3.
Tuba2 1 Posted June 6, 2009 (edited) ..but you might want to buy the DVD version ... So to repeat a question, "Exactly where do you find the DVD version to buy?" I believe the Amazon CFS3 is the CD version I already own. Is this correct? Edited June 6, 2009 by Tuba2
Olham 164 Posted June 6, 2009 A friend of mine succeeded after completely shutting down all background (TSR) progs, and especially all virus protections and internal security progs. If it should work - don't forget to reactivate them after playing.

I think some one posted awhile back where you can get them.. I don't have one myself, but I would like to. Can some on please help out on this? I think it would be a good sticky.. where to get the DVD version or the best deal on CD versions. We could keep it going to help new players find the best deal on it. What do you all think? I got mine by going to amazon.com. When it arrived, the label said "Xpolsive' instead of Microsoft. I figured this can't be right, so I tracked it down on the Microsoft site. They were selling Xplosive too.
Winston DoRight 3 Posted June 6, 2009 If all else fails, try swapping out your memory sticks. I had a similar problem a few monts ago and it turned out to be bad memory.

Flyby PC 23 Posted June 7, 2009 (edited) Could be a RAM memory issue. As you fly, your mission data gets recorded, and once you're file is full, you crash to desktop. I was told your virtual memory should be about half your RAM, - but advice on this varies. My other suggestion would be heat. Because you can start CFS3 and fly for a while without CTD, it suggests the problem occurs after your PC reaches a critical threshold then fails. Because CFS3 is a demanding beast for memory and graphics, your components might be getting hotter and hotter until they don't function correctly. Unfortunately you're describing a problem which might be a number of things, (but it's also one of those problems which lets you get to know your PC a lot better). There was a very full and informative thread posted here a while ago, and I'll post a link if I can find it.... http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showt...amp;hl=graphics Edited June 7, 2009 by Flyby PC
