I have been trying to add one of the downloadable Intruders into WOV2 as a flyable plane but without any success, I have consulted the Knowledge base but still cannot get them to appear in the list of flyable planes, other aircraft I have added without any problems..any clues as to where I am going wrong?

Could you outline the steps you've taken??

It's just like adding any other aircraft; they just go in a different spot now.

Hey Laxboy,

Nice personal picture you've got there, where did you find it? I ask because I actually know who the guy is in it. He holds the Navy record for most career traps aboard ship, something like 1,645 which is an unbelievable amount if you know anything about Naval aviation in general. He told me he a used a camera mounted at the base of his HUD and a remote button to take several pictures that day. Apparently this was the best one out of the bunch of his self portrait. I've seen one of the originals he took as well it occasionally showing up in books ("Naval Aviation" is one I remember). Anyway, nice pic I'd like to get a copy.

I have expierenced no problems with adding any other aircraft into WOV2 as I have followed the steps outlined in the great tutorial in the Knowledge base but following the exact same steps with any of the addon Intruders and in the game the aircraft simply don't appear as selectable aircraft, my Voodoos and Vigilantes presented no such problem, is there anything significantly different about the Intruders?

Either the naming convention is porked or, more likely, the config.ini is pointing to something that isn't there.

Does this add-on rely on something from TK's WOV A-6A?

Yah, like the WoV Intruder cockpit??

You'll need to extract ALL relevant files; bmps, tgas, ini and most impornantly, the lod, As the are NOT in the SF2V object cats. Create cockpit folder, move to SF2Vs Intruder, add the correct pointer lines (easly copied FROM WoVs Intruder), hangar and loadout screens, etc.

Also, if's its Monty's old A-6A LOOK AT ALL THE INIs -- there were naming issues when originally released the use of a _ (underline) in some places where a - (dash) should be used. Also, to seperate/differentiate it FROM the stock one, it's reccomended to name the folder, the main ini to "A-6A_MCZ" The AircraftDisplayedName= (the one that shows on the drop down in game, you know?) should read A-6A Intruder (MCZ)

In the aircraft folder name, all the files in it, and all the lines in the A-6A.ini file, remove the spaces from 'A-6 A' so it's 'A-6A'. Also make sure to unzip the cockpit .rar so the cockpit folder is in there. It will now show up in game.

There are two other issues, though:

1. The canopy opens when the aircraft starts moving. There are posts about how to fix that. (I made it a manual open/close on mine)

2. There is no internal cockpit. Just a "superman" view with a gunsight. Is this due to missing references from WOV? I'm not sure, so if someone more familiar with cockpits could help out with that one, it would be great. It would be nice for folks to be able to get an A-6 in SF2 without having WOV (and having to extract tons of file and re-package).

sounds like Monty's original, as the stock WoV/SF2V's don't do that out of the box

For those that don't actually look (ie: explore with Skypat's Cat Extractor), you'll find ALL the Intruder cockpit bits IN the WoE Objects.cat, too. (08patched) The only folks left out in the cold are SF/SFG/WoI Only Users.

And yes, if you want the correct A-6 cockpit, that's the only way to do it --extract/copy/ini edit, fly. Less than 5.2 minutes of work.

And it (the cockpit and associated bits) CANNOT be posted, as the 3rdWire A-6 is NOT available in ALL versions, unlike the A-4 or F-4 that has/is being used for stand-in cockpits of all flavors.

It's up to the individual to do all the leg work. We've already done all the brain work.

However, if someone really "needs" a fully illustrated, step-by-step, easily understandable instruction sheet, that can be arranged to.

It just needs to be ask for. But, in general, it's not really any different from when the got the WoI Hunters flyable, using the WoE cockpits, as seen here:

Yes, I'm refering to Monty's A-6A. Checked out the post about the hunter's pit, and it certainly doesn't look too hard. I was hoping to be able to post a SF2:V friendly A-6A with a pit included, but it looks like that can't happen. Once I get the pit put together using WOV/WOE files, I'll post some detailed instructions. I was also hoping to have an A-6 pit that could be used without having WOV or WOE (ie - for SF2, SF2V, and SF2E users), but again sounds like it's a no go.

Thanks for the pointers. I'll take a stab at putting the cockpit together tonight.

*edit* - I just checked, and Monty's A-6A says it'll work in SFP1. I thought that meant it would be self contained w/o needing to reference files from WOV/WOE...?

Ok I have found an addon Intruder that is flyable in SF2:V straight out of the box without any modification and which is available here in the downloads section, namely the A-6A Flight of the Intruder. For some reason which can only be related to the cockpit this particular addon works without any problems in SF2:V.

Good call. I'll use that for my SF2:V all-inclusive mod assuming, I get all necessary permissions, of course...

After examining the download in question....

It flys right out of the box BECAUSE the cockpit is included. But it shouldn't have been, "core files" doncha know. But as it's been out for so long....I an't messing with it. That's gonna be an Admin/Owner call; Not my place to call it. (given allen and baltika's had to re-edit a butt-load of their ww2 stuff due to 'other issues')

And now that you HAVE the correct cockpit, put that beeeayach into the stock one, Monty's and ALL your Intruder problems are solved (well, not quite, as the loadouts need some adjusting, but that's a minor matter)

as to including it in OTHER mods for upload, I'd advise against it ... just point folks to the d/l url in your readme, and let them grab it themselves. Let's not compound the 'sharing of core files' with more ileaglity!

While we're on the subject of adding A-6's to SF2:V, can anyone tell me if there were any significant upgrades to the A-6A over the course of the vietnam war?

The reason I'm asking is that TK has moved to having multiple versions of each variant for an aircraft (ie - _67, _72, and _75 for the F-4E), and I'm wondering if it would be worth while to something similar with A-6A. These would be upgrades to avionics, countermeasure, or weapons capabilities. However, from what I know and have read, there weren't really any such upgrades for the A-6A.

I could create an A-6B, but I don't know how fun an aircraft with no guns that can only carry ARM's would be in game.

Thanks.

Sounds like there weren't a whole lot of upgrades to A-6A's until they were converted to later variants (as least as regarding upgrades that would be noticeable in a TW game).

I'm thinking, though, of having an A-6A_67 that is a combination of the A-6A and the A-6B (which became available in '67). It would just at and visual RWR and ARM capability to the A-6A. Hmmm... we'll see...
