Nieuport N.24 Bis Lewis

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Here's the Nieuport N.24 (Lewis) and N.24 Bis (Lewis). Both were fitted with the Lewis wing mounted gun.

The N.24 had the N.24 rounded tail unit whilst the N.24 Bis reverted to the N.17 tail unit.

Olham, you really have to give up the Albatros for some time and give these beautiful Nupes a chance, especially when the N.24 is released. They are great little fighters. The French don't use the Aldis sight, if that's what's keeping you away from them, and the windshield can be lowered just like opening the canopy in CFS3.

That awful windshield can be lowered? How's that to be done?

That was my main reason not to fly them - that limited forward sight.

Hasse Wind, you may have convinced a German pilot to try them now.

You need to fly Nupes so you can learn where they break under human control, and thus know how fast you need to dive to escape them cool.gif

The Nieuport vickers (French) is the better ticket. In real life the Aldis sight was an excellent addition the British made, but CFS3 is limited in not being able to really model it properly. The result is that it's more a hindrance than a help. The open ironsights on the Vickers are an advantage, even if the gun partly blocks the view. The N.17 vickers is the finest plane of its era.

The Nupe windshield can bet lowered using the cfs3 "Open Canopy" command

IIRC, it's Shift + C

Looks nice and crisp Mike !

The windshield cannot be lowered on the N24 it's a fitted piece. It probably could be removed but I'd think huddling behind it at 100 mph at altitude would be very welcome.

The 17 had the "hinge window" between the cabane struts in the rear, and I guess you could drop those. The 24 was actually somewhat like the 11 in that it had a plain metal frame windscreen that was fixed in place. You're right.

Glad to help Cappy!

Not sure on the exact command keys

If Shift+C doesn't work just see what the cfs3 "Open Canaopy" command is

BTW on the N17 Lewis version it lowers the Lewis instead.

Billy Bishop often flew combat without Goggles or Flying Helmet...so he would have needed a windshield I guess
