DukeIronHand Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Long time SF1 and WoV owner who just upgraded to SF2 Vietnam. Still getting adjusted with key mapping, d/l's, graphic settings, etc. However during a few test flights I have noticed the bomb release sound is still not working!?! I had hoped this would have finally been fixed or do I need to add/adjust something in my setup? Thanks! Quote

DukeIronHand Posted October 31, 2009 Author Posted October 31, 2009 Bomb release sound? Never heard of such a thing. FC Yikes! Your an old hand too...now I'm nervous. Its in the sound folder and has been talked about before as a glitch of some kind. Certain folks have tried to add it to a AC's sounds .ini with no luck. hmmm in sf/s u cant use ur sound or add any sound to the bombs only missiles and guns. regards leon *Sigh* OK...thx for the info Quote

Fubar512 Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 The bomb release sound was never implemented, TK simply had it there as a placekeeper for future expansion. Only events that are coded in the core game files can have sounds associated with them. Quote

Well heck, I'd have hoped that SF2 was the "future expansion" that was always mentioned when this topic came up before! If anyone is in tight with TK could this be mentioned to him for a upcoming patch? I like to have some kind of audio feedback on bomb release. Thanks all for your help and suggestions. Quote
jomni Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Audio feedback = "bombs away" Do you actually hear something in real life? Quote

FastCargo Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 As a person who has dropped iron in real life, it depends on the aircraft. I would be willing to bet you won't hear much at all, you'll probably feel it first. In the Bone, you wouldn't hear it (at least I didn't), but you could feel a very slight vibration as each weapon was punted off through the airframe of the aircraft. FC Quote

DukeIronHand Posted November 2, 2009 Author Posted November 2, 2009 (edited) Well, I got that you would not hear anything but I think multi-hundred (or thousands) pounds of explosive separating from your fighter size AC would give a "feel" of some kind as a feedback. A sound would be good instead for a sim...or something else if I had a FFB joystick. Edited November 2, 2009 by DukeIronHand Quote

TurtleHawk Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 In one of the other sims, JF-18, or maybe Falcon, don't recall which one, there was an audible "click" when bombs were released. It was especially noticable if you used CCIP, and held the button down to pickle the target, then kept it pressed and got the "click" to let you know the bombs were away. I remember thinking, "Cool, but would you really hear it, over engine noise, etc"? I may have garbled this up, but maybe that's what the original poster is referring to....? Have not ever heard that in the TW sims. Quote

Have not ever heard that in the TW sims. Again I got the noise/sound part down I guess my point is that the pilot must have some indication of weapon release - be it noise, feel, cockpit indicator, or whatever. Activation of the "bomb release" sound would be a easy fix and indicator. Oft times I come off a target and, in the heat of the moment, wonder if I had my finger on the right button/switch, as I have no indication that the weapons (bombs) released or not - except going to a external view. EricJ Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 The big problem is coding, or not to really degrade the modder, but bongodriver/craigbrierly did it very well with his Typhoon, so you get positive feedback when a weapon leaves the pylon. The F-4, and various other US aircraft have indicators in the cockpit via lights. I know the MF Hornet has a good system, which works okay with the Super Hornet (I would love a better MFD setup personally, but hey it works, but gets kinda problematic with a large load. Quote
