+Julhelm Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Does such a mod exist, or how can I go about the easiest way to beef up the air defense on the stock map to where it's actually challenging? Quote
Wrench Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Somewhere around here, from a million years or so ago, I've got the targets ini tweeked with HAWK sites for Dhimar. Of course, the radars and launchers will need adding to the types ini. THey use the old ones by Pasko, so some editing will be needed for those from the TMF pak. As for Parani SAM sites, more accurate ones would need to be added to the targets ini, in "places of interest". The stock way of just dropping launchers and radars hap-hazardly in the cities and such has always bothered the daylights outta me. Do you need target layouts?? I'll go look for the HAWK locations, and get back to ya wrench kevin stein Quote
Wrench Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 (edited) This is from my Generic Library of Target Layouts. It's a double battery with 12 launchers, but it's easily edited to remove the other 6. Just don't forget to keep the EWR (Target018), and renumber. It uses the Generic Target Designations (SAMLauncher, SAMRadar, AAA) so some odd mixing may occur. I'd reccomend giving it a name like "Parani AD Site #-whatever-, with an ActiveYear=0, so the AAA units will always show, and maybe some tents near the center. [TargetArea***] Name= Position= Radius=1000.0 ActiveYear= Location=2 Alignment=ENEMY Target[001].Type=AAA Target[001].Offset=-292,206 Target[001].Heading=90 Target[002].Type=SAMLauncher Target[002].Offset=-392.00,381.00 Target[002].Heading=330 Target[002].ActiveYear=1959 Target[003].Type=SAMLauncher Target[003].Offset=-192.00,381.00 Target[003].Heading=30 Target[003].ActiveYear=1959 Target[004].Type=SAMLauncher Target[004].Offset=-32.00,140.00 Target[004].Heading=90 Target[004].ActiveYear=1959 Target[005].Type=SAMLauncher Target[005].Offset=-492.00,206.00 Target[005].Heading=270 Target[005].ActiveYear=1959 Target[006].Type=SAMLauncher Target[006].Offset=-192.00,31.00 Target[006].Heading=150 Target[006].ActiveYear=1959 Target[007].Type=SAMLauncher Target[007].Offset=-392.00,31.00 Target[007].Heading=210 Target[008].ActiveYear=1959 Target[008].Type=AAA Target[008].Offset=0.00,0.00 Target[008].Heading=45 Target[002].ActiveYear=0 Target[009].Type=SAMRadar Target[009].Offset=50.00,20.00 Target[009].Heading=90 Target[009].ActiveYear=1959 Target[010].Type=AAA Target[010].Offset=-50.00,20.00 Target[010].Heading=135 Target[010].ActiveYear=0 Target[011].Type=SAMRadar Target[011].Offset=292,-206 Target[011].Heading=90 Target[011].ActiveYear=1959 Target[012].Type=SAMLauncher Target[012].Offset=392.00,-381.00 Target[012].Heading=330 Target[012].ActiveYear=1959 Target[013].Type=SAMLauncher Target[013].Offset=192.00,-381.00 Target[013].Heading=30 Target[013].ActiveYear=1959 Target[014].Type=SAMLauncher Target[014].Offset=32.00,-140.00 Target[014].Heading=90 Target[014].ActiveYear=1959 Target[015].Type=SAMLauncher Target[015].Offset=492.00,-206.00 Target[015].Heading=270 Target[015].ActiveYear=1959 Target[016].Type=SAMLauncher Target[016].Offset=192.00,-31.00 Target[016].Heading=150 Target[016].ActiveYear=1959 Target[017].Type=SAMLauncher Target[017].Offset=392.00,-31.00 Target[017].Heading=210 Target[017].ActiveYear=1959 Target[018].Type=EWR Target[018].Offset=60,-60 Target[018].Heading=0 Target[018].ActiveYear=0 Of course, you'll still need to locate them on the map (Position=) wrench kevin stein Edited November 15, 2009 by Wrench Quote

Wrench Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 (edited) No, not at all. The TE isn't needed or even necessary to add new TargetAreas. You just need the HUDDebug=TRUE turned on in the HUDData.ini, and either fly single missions and hope you get 'near' the region you want to add the Battery, or use one of my "Target Placement Missions", that's posted in the TE thread in the KB. You'll just need to edit the aircraft, map name, date and the general start location. The missions are 'start in the air' type, that put you right over the area in question. +Piecemeal Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Here you are, bud. I had the same thoughts a good while back and got stuck into the long chore of creating not only SAM sites, but Flak batteries as well for both sides on the map. I decided to make Kurzah, the capital of Paran, something similar to downtown Hanoi; with four SAM sites and twelve Flak batteries scattered within and around the immediate vicinity of the city, so if seeing those big smoke puffs during a strike mission is your thing, then you won't be disappointed. My advice is to try out a strike mission in Kurzah and if your framerate goes a little too low, then delete a couple of the Flak batteries of your choice. Dhimar-Paran SAM & AAA Sites.txt I probably don't have to tell you; but just in case, just copy all the text in the attached file, paste it on to the end of your DESERT_TARGETS.ini file and change the 'TargetArea' numbers to correspond with the rest on that file. Here's hoping you have some good ducking and diving! Quote
Wrench Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 (edited) The only problem I see it the Blue side batteries ... since there's only ONE Blue SAM .. the HAWKS. And since HAWKs are networked to their 2 radars, you'll need SPECIFIC target object call outs, and the items added to the Desert_Types.ini. EDIT: you'll probably want to re-write those Red Layouts, unless you want the Libyan flag flying over Paran (which, might NOT be too far from truth .. "advisors" and all. And/or include the AA Gun Pit, as most folks aren't going to have it, as it's a terrain object included in some varying terrains; all the bit will need transfering to the Desert folder, and the _Types.ini edited to add them. Otherwise they'll be blank spots, when the Game Engine 'sees' and object that's not there. It WILL skip over it, and go on to the next item in sequence. A typical HAWK battery would be something like this (taken from Nick Bell's WoE AD Mod, as he worked HAWKs in the USArmy in Europe...) This layout is from ASW, one of the batteries near Gavelston: [TargetArea027]Name=Gulf Coast Defense Battery 1 Position=306877,392096 Radius=1000.000 ActiveYear=0 Location=1 Alignment=FRIENDLY Target[001].Type=HAWK_HIPIR Target[001].Offset=40.000,90.000 Target[001].Heading=45 Target[002].Type=HAWKL Target[002].Offset=-10.000,180.000 Target[002].Heading=315 Target[003].Type=HAWKL Target[003].Offset=80.000,170.000 Target[003].Heading=20 Target[004].Type=HAWKL Target[004].Offset=140.000,90.000 Target[004].Heading=90 Target[005].Type=HAWK_CWAR Target[005].Offset=-80.0,20.0 Target[005].Heading=180 Target[006].Type=USTruck Target[006].Offset=000.00,000.00 Target[006].Heading=90 Target[007].Type=USTruck Target[007].Offset=000.00,005.00 Target[007].Heading=90 Target[008].Type=HAWK_HIPIR Target[008].Offset=40,-90 Target[008].Heading=135 Target[009].Type=HAWKL Target[009].Offset=140,-90 Target[009].Heading=90 Target[010].Type=HAWKL Target[010].Offset=80,-170 Target[010].Heading=160 Target[011].Type=HAWKL Target[011].Offset=-10,-180 Target[011].Heading=225 Target[012].Type=AAA Target[012].Offset=300.0,000.00 Target[012].Heading=90 Target[013].Type=AAA Target[013].Offset=-300.0,000.00 Target[013].Heading=180 Target[014].Type=AAA Target[014].Offset=00,300.00 Target[014].Heading=270 Target[015].Type=AAA Target[015].Offset=00,-300.00 Target[015].Heading=0 Target[016].Type=ALFlag Target[016].Offset=10,0 Target[016].Heading=90 Target[017].Type=USFlag Target[017].Offset=0,-10 Target[017].Heading=90 You'll also not it uses the OLD designations for the CWAR and HiPAR, NOT the newer ones from TMFs WepPak. If it's the text file I uploaded earlier you're on about, it's really a Parani flag that I created by using the Libyan flag from the Libya Terrain as a model. All I did was change the bmp. I suppose I should have changed the name of it there and then but I had a severe dose of 'Lazyitis' at the time Either ignore the entry or I could upload the flag for all to use Edited November 19, 2009 by Ultramax Quote

Now it's not as fine as a tool as flying around but for a SAM site I've found it useful. Now that I finally know the debug command... I can maybe start adding stuff that I couldn't figure out from before. Quote

I'm doing something similiar on the WW2 Euro map for Berlin, encircling the city with masssive AAA batteries. Eric: does Kreelins give the exact offsets, or just the general coordinates??? (ie: 245,789 vs 201919,345678). I still find my "placement missions" work really good. I know the WoVSqmd give the full map coordinates, which is good when you've got an already built area to just drop on the spot. wrench kevin stein Edited November 19, 2009 by Wrench Quote

malibu43 Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 I also have a zip file I can upload later on that contains the "more challenging" AAA from the SF2V Expansion Pack that could probably be "drag and dropped" into any SF2X install as a AAA/Mobile SAM upgrade (it also includes SA-9's and SA-13's). This won't require any editing of the terrain, but will make the environment much more dangerous and challenging. I'll see if I can find it later... Quote

So for "pre-done" setups like you posted it's great, but for exact placement I'd use the debug thingamajig... sorry for not being clear.. Quote
