Derk 265 Posted August 25, 2010 Funny thing, before seeing this, I litterally just put down the phone after a chat with a bussiness relation about planes with chutes and I have recently flown a Cirrus for an hour or so that has the same system........ Sure gives you a safe feeling Hou doe, Derk
ezlead 42 Posted August 25, 2010 The old "Nylon Letdown to a full stop". Terrific system for aerobatic aircraft.
macelena 1,070 Posted September 7, 2010 I heard an old spanish phantom pilot, that, in the event of stall-spin, the last choice before ejection was to deploy the tail chute to stabilize the aircraft. He didn´t say it was ever used this way, however.

The idea is that it pulls the tail up in a flat spin, pointing the nose down so the spin becomes recoverable. If I remember right, there were problems with the 'chutes not deploying properly and getting tangled up in the tail, though.
