BUFF 8 Posted August 10, 2004 Wouldn't you be more offended if your government (in the shape of Colin Powell who as Sec of State I guess is responsible for elections) asked & they were not sent? Europe is the birthplace of democracy & as GhostDog says I seem to recall some problems with the Florida elections...
firehawkordy 34 Posted August 10, 2004 (edited) Scout, As I understand it, We,the U.S., signed an international treaty to to set up monitoring of elections world wide. Being that the the Fla. elections was so poorly done, people who didn't read thier ballot carefully and such, it is only natural that it's our turn to be monitored. I heard today that although we signed the treaty, ten years ago in fact, wonder whose stamp of approval is on that one, congress managed to cut our off our share of the funds. I say we let them come, monitor, and go home. It'll soon be Western Eruropes turn and we can get Jimmy Carter out of the country again. And I'm not trying to start a flame war. Most of the U.N membership signed off on this so sooner or later everyone will have thier elections overseen. I was disgusted by the way the last elction was handled so if this is what will keep it honest so be it. We have sent monitoring teams out alot in the past ten years, so it's only fair that we waste their time here. Edited August 10, 2004 by firehawkordy
navychief 1 Posted August 10, 2004 It won't be the UN coming to monitor us; it will be folks from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). Either way, it is not a good thing if you ask me. NC
Dutchy 0 Posted August 10, 2004 I don't think Europe is ARROGANT, but in the most countries are the elections better than what USA did for four years ago. We did laugh about the elections there. It was so unproffessional, it looks like a African or Balkan election. USA, the land of dreams came thru can't make a good voting system. Hopely you have now one voting system what work. And imported, vote if you don't wanna lose your man. Salute Dutchy
Chaingun 0 Posted August 10, 2004 Dutchy, the voting system works if the people are smart enuff to utilize it. ;) If they can't read, they kind of get disenfranchised (I hate that darn word) by proxy. I personally don't trust the Europeans to come over here and monitor anything, not with the sentiments held out on the European Front Politically at the moment. GhostDog 0 Posted August 10, 2004 a European political front? ...i might like to see that one day. Its just a bunch of hugely different coutries currently not at war because they started a casino together and they all think they are winning

Salute Dutchy If the Other guy had won in his HOME state he would have won that election..We DO have a system that works,it has worked for quite a long time, except in that election in 1960 where DEAD folks in chicago and illinois were voting..vote and often was what was said then...the system did work,as long as the votes were going the other way,NO system is perfect but one works with what you have,if it says Punch Thru,I dont see anything difficult or complicated bout that... LOL,probablly.. but I really dont see that need, this is the United States, not some banana republic(tho if things keep going as they might,we just MIGHT become one),yes we all know Greece was the craddle of democracy,we all know about the magna carta and those documents, but it was here that a man that had absolute power gave it up(without a revolution or bloodshed) so elections could determine a President if I recall history right... Might be worth it then to get jimmy out of here...well I agree, but as I understand it they have no power at all,so it just becomes a excercise in futility and innuendo..might be interesting see what the french say when its their turn have us folks watching their elections... If they can't read, they kind of get disenfranchised (I hate that darn word) thanks for this comment, you are right that being the point, smart enough to read and comprehend instructions, that ought not be so complicated... yeah know what you mean bout that word, sounds like one is loosing the chicken franchise lol lol
Scout_51 0 Posted August 10, 2004 Its just a bunch of hugely different coutries currently not at war because they started a casino together and they all think they are winning LOL LOL.that is right aint it...another reason they not at war(at least two of them) is that they would have to roll over US troppers that been between them for over 55 yrs,we have had granpa, son and junior in between those countries, gee guess it brings families together anyways........oh well, those watchers might get a few good ideas to take back and use in their countries,so perhaps something good comes out of it...Thanks guys for the inputs tho.... Dutchy 0 Posted August 17, 2004 I personally don't trust the Europeans to come over here and monitor anything, not with the sentiments held out on the European Front Politically at the moment. That is what you wrote Scott_51. Now has Venozuela a election and what does USA say: We don't trust it. Why: The wrong president didn't win (in the eyes of America). So if you wanna say that nobody has the right to control USA election, than has USA no right to control other countries. That is fair enough. Hopely for America is this time the election going well and good. Better than 4 years ago. Salute Dutchy
